Who should the Texans target for the OC job?

Name just popped in my head a few minutes ago. Brian Ferentz. He turned us down before. Maybe timing wasn't right.

Report: Iowa OL Coach Brian Ferentz Going to Houston Texans
I will dance a jig and buy all night for folks who come to Austin if Ferentz is hired.

I'm dubious though because it only makes sense with a return to heavy ZBS. Which don't get me wrong, I think is ideal for Watson. Kudos to OB if he'll make the change.

Yeah, that was BO'bs first choice for OL coach here, but he decided to stay at Iowa. He's now their OC. I don't know they are in talks now, but I'm hoping.
I dunno why would this be such a popular hire other than many folks seem to like the man's father, the Iowa U HC ?

Ferentz invented zone blocking. His son played it and has coached it. Absent yanking Gibbs out of retirement he's the guru.

It would also appear to signal a switch to a system which much better suits Watson and for that matter Miller.

OK I buy that about DW4 because he seems like he could be the prototype QB to run behind a ZBS but do you really think the Texans HC would accept such a major change to his teams offense ?

That's why I'm dubious.

If it happens I may have to channel steelb, did Cal make it happen?

Depends on how smart he is.

If he goes for it, he's got my respect.

I'd be happy because we would then have a direction. It's easier for me to get behind a guy if I can understand what he's trying to do.

Let's say you have a new coach come in saying we're going to get bigger, stronger, & faster. That we're going to run a power run scheme. Then 5 years later he replaces Ben Jones, & Brandon Brooks with guys who aren't any better. Then he had a guy like Mancz he won't let play unless he absolutely has to. Then he drafts Sua'Filo & Maryin & they're both looking like busts now.

Pretty frustrating

Could have stopped there. [For the dimwits, comparison from familiarity] For example, from day 1 you knew Kubiak's philosophy. We're going on year 6 now with OB and WHAT?

How many here think if OB was fired tomorrow he'd have an OC job next year?

Bengals still filling their coaching staff?

As long as there's a job out there no one else wants, he has a chance. But I wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't.

Adam Schefter reports Kubiak may be headed to Jaguars. Interesting if they go after Flacco. Kind of Schaub 2.0

Other than an article from 2014 what makes any of you think it’s even an option?
Nothing. It's just a name that popped in my head.

BO'b isn't going to bring in just anyone. It's going to have to be someone he already has a history with. BO'b wanted Ferentz for his OL coach back in 2014, I'm hoping that history is there.

IMHO, Bob isn't bringing anyone in as an OC unless Gains forced him to and I very much doubt that happens. Maybe Cal will wake up from his nap and make it happen.

This thread is just speculative as long as the HC picks the OC, or if an OC is forced on him, the OC still answers to the HC. Any new OC would share Billy's philosophy unless Billy were replaced first.

It's gonna be intersting to see if Cal is going to operate differently than his father did, i.e. perhaps be more proactive ? I suppose that would be unlikely but maybe he will surprise us ?

I'm hoping Vrabel hires Ryan as the Titans' OC. Munchak is available, promote Devlin to Assistant HC - Offense and hire Munchak as OL coach. That leaves an opening for a QB coach and OC.

I'm hoping they hire a QB coach/OC/passing game coordinator or whatever you want to call it that allows O'Brien's ego to accept someone tweaking this stagnant offensive scheme.

Was Flacco's OC in Baltimore in 2014. Flacco had one of his best season's as a pro that year.

Denzelle Good’s brother, Overton Deshan Good, was killedin a drive-by shooting in South Carolina on Oct. 2. Good left the team to be with his family there and returned to Indianapolis a week later. He had started the game before he left but never played another down for the Colts after he returned.

Good said that offensive line coach Dave DeGuglielmo was upset that he had left the team and that in a meeting in his office a month ago DeGuglielmo told Good he was "a failure."

"I came back after my brother was murdered and I was dealing with a lot of personal issues," Good said. "That didn’t sit well with (DeGuglielmo). He wanted players that fight through things and play."

Good was in a funk when he got back — "it was hard to just get back to my normal self when my brother was just murdered" — and DeGuglielmo got more and more upset with the guard. And then it all came out in the meeting.

"He told me that as long as I was there, I would never play for him again," Good said. "I would never play another down because he felt disrespected. I wasn’t going to play even though I felt I was as good as anyone on the field playing."

So Good immediately went to general manager Chris Ballard and asked for his release; Ballard granted his wish on Dec. 1.

Also how much of the Colts line was him being a good coach, compared to the Colts having 4 top 40 picks on their line?

He is who replace Dante Scarnnechia when he reitred, only to be fired a couple seasons later and the Patriots begged Dante to come back out of retirement

I can draw up plays to run Miller up the middle. Do the Texans have any other qualifications for this position?
sounds strangely like "Earl right, Earl left, Earl up the middle. And when Earl gets winded throw it deep to Kenny Burrough.
LOL
