Yes I want another OC. But will Obrien micromanage him. Will he allow him to do his job. Will Obrien try to force the weekly change in the offensive scheme.

Gaines will do a great job again in acquiring what we need. But will those additions be coached up properly. Will those players hold up because it seem these players come here to get hurt.

I like RAC but I truly think his time has come and gone. It's time for a change.
yup, and this is where having a GM and coach perfectly aligned can rear it's ugly head. Much like when Kubs was forced to move on from Richard Smith, it looks like O'Brien needs someone to force him to move on from Devlin. Hopefully Gaine isn't so aligned that he is buying into Devlin how OB already has
Gaines is unfortunately Rick 2.0. Mainly in the sense of being a yes man to O'brien.

I'm betting you're wrong on Gaine and I am willing to give them as a team a chance.

Dude just like Kubiak picked RS to be his GM, OB picked Gaine to be his GM. There's a real danger in that.

This whole &*$@#% organization is so bass ackwards it's not even funny.

That's like having a Walmart assistant manager pick the freaking store manager.

Agreed,

That's why I wanted Ricky/BOB both fired. But since that didn't happen all we can do is hope Gaine can add talent to a depleted roster. So far so good.

Capers & Casserly were effectively fired at the same time. Casserly just "stayed on" thru the draft with Kubiak in charge.
Like I said, never same time, don’t tell me Casserly had no impact in the 2006 NFL draft, that’s ludicrous. Ironically selecting (Casserly/Kubiak) DE Mario Williams then playing him out of position (until Wade) then (Smith/Crennel/O’Brian) taking another DE Clowney #1 then I guess just finally agreeing constractually anyway he is a DE and not an OLB.

Lol

Didn't say that. He convinced Kubiak to take Owen Daniels. But they stated at the time Casserly was staying thru the draft because he had hired the scouts and they didn't want to hire a new set before the draft. He was fired at the same time but his departure was delayed.

Next season.....the damn ticket prices better not go up again!
And someone needs to INSTRUCT OB to hire someone with an offensive mind. Cuz OB's offensive mind ain't cutting it.
LOL...ticket prices have gone up when the Texans did NOT have an 11-5 division winning season and a young stud QB to market. I would expect tickets to go up a higher percentage than normal.

Exhibit A:

You buy them and sell them on an individual basis. to get your $$$$ back. You can actually do well if the team is decent.
Yes, this was true when i moved way back when...I thought is more of hassle to be a ticket broker of sort than to buy a couple of tickets for the once or twice I was making it to games then

On Sean Ryan/new QB coach
This move does not happen if O’Brien doesn’t let it happen, if Bill O’Brien wants to keep him this move is stopped in its tracks. That being said this is an indication that at least Bill O’Brien was open to moving on from him, was open to a different quarterbacks coach. I don’t know if it’s going to be an OC honestly like if O’Brien was going to hire an OC he might’ve done it with George Godsey a couple of years. He does the offense so you may not actually hire an offensive coordinator but at the least he’s gonna bring in a new quarterbacks guy and I think you know as much as he does with the offense it sounds like he wanted someone who he could more like turn the QB position over to logistically, fundamentally, and in practice and maybe free O’Brien up just like a little bit.

On Deshaun Watson/QB coach
I think the main thing is that Bill O’Brien and Deshaun Watson have a good thing going on. Deshaun had a very good year this year, a pro bowler again, but there were definitely some times when you could sort of say like maybe it’s not quite what it was… because last year pre injury, the way we are talking about Patrick Mahomes now was basically the way we were talking about Deshaun last year. So, not saying that Sean Ryan was the cause but clearly this year was like a minuscule step… back a little bit. The development of this young quarterback is so important. I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s a really veteran sort of senior quarterbacks coach, someone who’s gonna be here for like 10 years that could take O’Brien through with Deshaun Watson. [Declines to name names saying the guy could get blocked by other teams.]

On playcalling
I don’t I don’t see any scenario where O’Brien doesn’t call plays. Now when Godsey was here I know George actually called plays all but basically two games. I think if O’Brien is going to allow somebody else to call plays he’d have to have an unbelievable amount of trust with that person and I just don’t know that he has that person yet.

On Clowney
With Clowney I think there’s a good chance he gets tagged, think there’s a good chance he plays on the tag and I’m not sure that’s bad for either side. Now I’m sure he would like a long-term deal but there are still questions: work ethic questions, injury questions… no talent questions. But he might make sense as someone who plays on the tag so I could see that. I don’t see a situation where they lose him.

On Tyrann Mathieu
As far as the Honey Badger, he loves it in Houston. I mean this was… that signing and I sort of thought it was good at the time, but I didn’t really appreciate how good it would be. He loves it. They love him. He is versatile, Romeo can move him around, he loves the city. Unless they lowball him and don’t treat him with the kind of respect that he wants, I would expect that to be one that probably ends up getting done.

What’s your impression of the one year into the Bill O’Brien-Brian Gaine partnership?
Really like it. You know, for the first time it seems like this is the team that O’Brien is behind and likes. When Rick Smith was here it never felt like O’Brien has his people, his kind of players, just guys he liked. And it, the team wasn’t, it never felt like it was really creative either. You know going out and getting Demaryius Thomas. I know he got injured, but that was a bold move and I’m not sure that happens with Rick Smith. And that’s the kind of move that helps a team get to the playoffs.

It’s pretty clear that Brock was not an O’Brien guy?
I will say this… that was, it was a fun thing of blame game and who really was responsible… that was always a Rick Smith move over an O’Brien move even though at the time Bill said all the right things.

2024 / Rebuilding Block 4 After Playoffs / Texans
That would be true even if we won though.
We would be disappointed if we didn't repeat the 'next year'.
As long as I've been a football fan......every fan from every demographic would be upset if their team couldn't follow-up on a great season with another if there's no clear reason for the failure.

I'll be happy when we have a chance to possibly beotch about the Texans after an incredibly successful season.....to date, they've never given the fan base the opportunity.

So how many years has he been here and now were finally going to see his "real" offense? I just don't trust in the Texans to amount to much as long as OB is still here.
Well, we are going to find out.

Hopefully you're wrong and good times are ahead.

I expect 3 things next yr. 1. A big jump in performance from Watson in what is really his 2nd yr. 2. BOB to get no credit around these parts. 3. After looking at next yrs schedule a 9-7, 10-6 season and people around these parts calling the season a failure and calling for BOB's head again next offseason.

Even though the team will be much better next yr. I said from the beginning this is a 3 yr rebuild and Gaine/BOB are in yr 2.

Hopefully I am wrong. But unless Gaine does some extraordinary things in the offseason I just don't see how. I don't trust OB, but I don't have anything to go on with Gaine yet, so in that respect, I am hopeful. Add in OB to the mix though and my excite-o-meter swings back to the red.

I'll believe it when I see it.

As my wise old momma always reminded me "a watched pot never boils".

I am convinced that the last generation was much much wiser than the ones that have followed it.

I'm looking forward to the 2020 Texans season. I don't have a good feeling at all about the 2019 Texans season.............not after what we just saw the Texans do this past season with that easy schedule. The next season will be even harder and quite frankly it's not looking good right now that the Texans will address enough the issues both on offense and defense especially the coaching. I have very little faith in the Texans doing much next season. 2020 season, on the other hand, I have hope for.

At least there won't be any excuses anymore. It's time for some consistent results on the offensive side of the ball.

Yep, it's going to take a yr of experience to get these young guys to where we want them to be though.

They can be well on their way halfway through their first season and be very effective.
It depends on the coaching - Quentin Nelson comes to mind.

Nelson is a generational talent. I dont expect that from Rankin. I dont expext XSF from Rankin either. I expect Grady Jackson from Rankin.

BTW, Was Nelson coming off preseason surgery that caused him to miss all of TC? Maybe I missed something. If so that's the only way you would be able to fairly compare Rankin/Nelson's rookie yrs.
