Is the official Texans board dead?

I've been noticing an uptick in newcomers. The official board seems gone and the link that I had to it is returning errors. Anyone know if the Texans 86'ed their board?

I remember someone saying that the NFL was enforcing some rules around official team message boards and it was making some teams opt out on them.

Pretty sure I read that in another thread here.

That makes sense. The NFL telling teams what to do with their message boards is why we ended up with this one. I think most are going the way of Facebook now anyway.

Have we gotten an influx of new meat yet?

Not a ton but seeing more than usual. I saw someone mention that the official board might be gone so I checked it out. I think with Facebook groups and team pages that people are getting away from message boards anyway. So I don't anticipate the number of newbies that we would have had if this would have happened a few years ago.

I thought this was the official board.

:) It is the original official board. Vinny pulled some strings with the Texans to allow the fans to have it after the NFL forced them to switch to another board. Before that TexansTalk.com was a smaller community of mainly tailgating friends. I still remember when he approached me about providing a home for the former official board. I caught some flak from a few of the original TexansTalk.com members however, most understood why I took Vinny up on his offer.

Here's what TexansTalk.com looked like in 2004 long before the switch https://web.archive.org/web/20041012123234/http://www.texanstalk.com:80/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.cgi

This is the email response I got when I inquired about the Bull Pen message boards.

Thank you for your email and support of the Houston Texans. We apologize for the inconvenience. In the Spring, the National Football League directed each team to re-design their website with a brand new form and unfortunately, message boards were not part of that program.

That said, we appreciate and encourage fan engagement! Please visit other means of joining the conversation through our social media platforms. You can also download the Houston Texans App on an iPhone or Android using the following link:https://www.houstontexans.com/news/mobile-app

Thank you so much for being a Texans fan!

.......ok, and thank you for bringing a Super Bowl Title to the great City of Houston. Please pass these regards on to Robert C. McNair.

I stopped browsing there a few years ago because I felt felt the quality of discussions here were much better overall. Didn’t realize the official board was closed.

The open theft of all time. He called me that afternoon laughing. I couldn't believe they were that dumb.

So then they call a meeting. Sat in a conference room on Kirby Bunch of weenies not listening. "We need more graphics." Idiots.

Thanks for providing this place.

Vinny now has the best garden ever. Rides his motorcycle and is calm. Being a dad. He turned me on to Stevia as a plant a couple years before it became legal.

  • I looked into this a couple of years ago and had discussions with a person imbedded with HoustonTexan.com, specifically with the MB.. I was told that the Texans made no money with their MB and therefore failed to keep the maintenance up or respond to any of the needs of the MB members............essentially totally ignored the MB while die hards kept it going as much as they could. Make no mistake, the Texans and the NFL are for the "Fan Experience" as long as it makes them money.............lots of money.

I was there before I was here, only had 1 decentish off season there before it went to **** while I was there. I found this board, and would only go back there when I was really bored. The posters on here for the most part seem better.

I don’t know if I could stomach this through Facebook at all.

Hi Vtech9 and all here. I received the exact same email response as you did vtech9. It was a speed dial bookmark and it would never open so I sent the same question.
I always liked this board way better than the official site. Much better experience and informative to things related to the Texans pre and post games. I don't post much but I do frequently read here and appreciate all you posters.

They changed the software couple years ago and it sucks. Lots of folks got upset with it and left, me included.
Was a moderator there and no one let us know it was changing ...it’s just bad.

Yep, must have been just before August 3, 2016, I left and started here when the new software came out. I went back a couple of times because there was a poster that always had a lot of good information to share (can't remember his name) but he seemed to be the only one posting.

I signed up over there a couple years ago my username was OG 2002, then I found this place like a year later because the people on the Chiefs forum where talking **** about ya'll. I didnt like the other place because the mods where weird, you would get in big trouble if you cussed over there, there were a couple of cool guys though hopefully they make it over here.

The backstory to this board and how the community wouldn't let NFL wipe it is really cool, only fitting that this one still going strong and the other one was killed off by the league without any kind of notice or anything. Message boards are really going extinct though, some of my favorite ones have died off over the last few years, sucks because I just can't do facebook.

Totally enjoy digging through ya'lls spectacular archive, I've made it up to the 2006 threads. I've been a Texans fan since day 1(I went to the first preseason games in 2002) I never knew there were Texans message boards so cool to read through those old threads

infantrycak = ErraticAssassin?
Always wondered.

Also miss Vinny.
Didn't realise the extent of his contribution to this site.
Thought he left us for the 49ers.

where is Swtbound07 - I hear he is the man to see about buying Texans jerseys.

JK - I rememer that clown pulled a Costanza/Casey Anthony and took someone on a wild goose chase instead of delivering the goods.

He took a few with his damn scheme, but delivered the jerseys I ordered though I think I was the only one he didn't rip off

I liked SWTBOUND

But it doesn't surprise me he ripped people off. He was a drug addicted liberal.

BTW, I love you guys, but people who do this kind of stuff are much more trusting than I am.

I guess I stopped coming here after I got burnt out with Goalline Blitz. I started back up on the NFL MB page, but never spent a lot of time there. I've spent more time in the past few days here on TexansTalk than I have for most of the season on the other page.

Speaking of GLB, I wonder if anyone still plays that.

Yea I'm part of the influx of newbies to this board. I had emailed the Texans and asked what happened to the official board and got a response about a week later informing me that the league had told all teams to reformat their websites and did that reformat did not include message boards, so...anyhow, looking forward to taking part in the discussions here.

I think all the members got kicked off the board and there was nobody left. Honesty and objectivity were not tolerated. If you predicted the Texans would lose a game you were labeled a troll.

They wore the terms Negative Nancy and Chicken Littles out.

I think he was OB4me or something similar. I liked him at first but after awhile he just kind of sucked the oxygen out of the room with the constant posts. It was like reading material straight from the Houston Texans PR Department.

Hell, maybe he is/was part of the PR department. It's like he was trying to keep it alive all on his own.

He went by H2O4me. He did post more then anyone else and tried to keep the board alive. Of course when there are only 5 or 6 other's posting over there it will seem that he over posts. He joined in 2016 also, so he wasn't even an old or long time member and just seemed to take over the board after that failure of an upgrade that drove most of the old members away. I still posted over there with my weekly game threads, but the posting over there was weak so I stayed over here with you guys mostly. It's not a bad thing it's gone.

I think JT and I moved around the same time, but I never looked back. Only time to peek at one board until I retired recently. I like the more uncensored speaking here where mods only really get involved when folks get too personal and attack the person rather than the content
