Expectations for Jaelen Strong?

He had 4.44 speed weighing 217 lbs at the NFL combine. I'd imagine he'll be plenty fast weighing 198 lbs now. Route running was the issue for him. Good route running makes you look much "faster".

Yes, he's a slow route runner. He can't create separation.

I expect him to wear something like this...

...while stealing McNair's money.

Just a few comments from this morning's paper: After OTA's, Savage and Hopkins got together in Philidelphia and "threw a couple days"; ...a strong QB-receiver relationship is vital to the passing game...the camaraderie the two players are developing..."it's huge just to kind of get to know the guy and to be on the same page with him".

Wow. This is getting better and better.

At least we drafted Braxton because he was a steal!

Hard to blame WRs with the QBs we've had, the route combinations we've seen, & the play calling.

Most receivers need help to get WTF open in the NFL.

Even Hopkins is looking like a talentless clod.

No it's not. You either get open and catch passes thrown to you and in your hands or you don't. Is this you still trying to defend Rick Smith for anything and everything?

I miss the days of AJ running routes getting wide open. We need another true #1.

Queue the "it's BoB's fault receivers can't get open" response.

Again, I don't mind getting rid of the HC. I was perfectly satisfied with Kubiak being fired and I'll be more than OK if O'Brien gets fired. I will be furious a second time if Rick Smith survives the firing squad. That would be negligence of an owner.

Now if the Texans somehow win the divisional playoffs, as you suggested in another thread with the caveat Duane Brown is there, we're all going to live happily (begrudgingly) and for after (for now) with O'Brien and Rick.

He used to have flypaper hands and made some circus catches - now the ball hits him in two hands and he puts it down.
He is not the same receiver we saw in his second year.

We also traded a 4th and 5th to take Nix in the third.

Besides being extremely careless with draft picks and compensatory picks, we've also done the second big no-no in team building: massively overpaying for mediocre free agents (Brock, Allen, Miller).

This is why we've become an incredibly thin team. I don't think I've ever seen it this bad since the expansion days.

I also think front loading contracts is a problem, as it limits capspace to build a team in the front years.

We've only doubled down on this strategy unfortunately, as we don't have a first or second round pick next year.

Why isn't Rick getting any blame for these trades and lack of depth? This stuff rarely happened under Kubiak. People used to complain how we never made that big splash on draft day, now look where it has gotten us.

I'm not trying to defend Rick at all.

But I liked the Hopkins, Posey, Strong, Fuller, & Miller picks. I liked them picking up Ellington & McCarron. I like Mancz & Martin, & not too far removed from liking XSF & Aboushi... I still like Ben Jones. I like Davenport.

I loved the signing of Lamar Miller & drafting of D'Onta Foreman.

We've had some injuries, but even before then I have never seen this offense run the way it's should be ran. Player selection is one thing & you may or may not like the selections we've made... But you've got to agree with me that player development has been woefully under par.

Fire Rick... I don't care. But we've got some talent on our offense that is way under utilized.

I blame them all. I think it's OBrien primarily, as the HC is given a lot of say in this org, and as you mentioned this crap didn't happen with Kubiak. But Ricky McNair is enthusiastically going along with it all.

They should all have been fired a long time ago for massive incompetence.

The only thing that has saved us is all the talent Kubiak and Wade assembled. It took a while to dismantle, but it's finally done.

I can't imagine what it's like to be a scout who's been here since Kubiak.

I believe Rick has been getting the majority of the blame for these, especially on this message board.

I know it sounds like I'm defending him, but I'm not. I'd have to know how the board room meetings went when these players & trades were made. If O'Brien was all, "I gotta have this Rick" & Smith made it happen, how can the owner "blame" him for working with the HC to get him what he wants?

Now if Rick went & spent $37M on a QB my HC didn't want (& after benching Savage in week 1 I find it hard to believe Savage was O'Briens plan A last season), or $26M on a RB he didn't want & $4M on a FB he doesn't want... then yeah, dude needs to go.

But you're right, didn't have this issue when Kubiak was here. Didn't have this problem when Wade was here. Don't have this problem on Crennel's side of the ball (even without Jj).

I'm not worried yet, it's only been 1 game, Watson hasn't practiced with the 1s at all, and Strong arguably has the most consistent hands on the roster until Hopkins hand heals.

Certainly you're joking. Unless you mean "a steal," like driving by a house and picking up an old futon that somebody left out for heavy trash day.

Braxton was projected 2-3 and we got him 3rd. Maybe not a steal but not picking up garbage either.

Now we have two old threads on Strong. Seems like this should be in it's own thread.

With the lack of depth on this WR squad there has to be more than meets the eye. Yes, he's not been good, but didn't they see him practice day after day in the spring, in camp, during PS games, etc.

His lack of production shouldn't be a shocker to anyone, most of all the people that scouted and signed him.

This freaking team is a mess. Until the head of the snake is cut off, it's more of the same!

Dang RS...with as many WR's that have gone down in the first 2 weeks you couldn't even finagle a RD6 for Strong before you just threw him to the street. Dude, how are you still an NFL GM? Beli will probably sign him and Brady will make him look awesome by Sunday...just to rub it in the Texans face. Would anyone put it past Beli to sign him to just give him an edge in forcing the Texans to change their calls on short notice and with a rookie QB at the helm?

Force the Texans to change their calls!

That is so funny and so sad in so many ways.
