Texan Player Meetings Tracker

I've been reading about other teams starting to bring in college players for private workouts and interviews. I haven't seen any news about the Texans players bringing anyone in. I'm out in California, so maybe I'm just not hearing news.

I believe each team gets to bring in 30 players for private meetings, not including local players. Can we get a list going on players who visit the Texans?

As far as I know we have had 4, Arkansas OT Dan Skipper , Villanova OT Brad Seaton, San Jose State WR Tim Crawley and Nebraska's WR Brandon Reilly, there may be more but those are all I know.

#Texans meet with linebacker Harvey Langi at BYUs pro-day. http://www.scout.com/nfl/texans/story/1765609-texans-meet-with-byu-s-harvey-langi …

3:38 PM - 24 Mar 2017

Spending three seasons with the Cougars, Langi started his college career at Utah where he played running back. When arriving to BYU, Langi switched to the defensive side of the football playing both defensive end and inside linebacker on defense. In 2016, Langi appeared in 13 games (12 starts) and totaled 57 tackles with 2 sacks and 5 tackles for loss and he also had two rushing touchdowns on the season.

Measuring in at 6-2 and 251 lbs., Langi was a top finsher at the NFL Combine in the 20 yard shuttle (4.32 sec.) and the 60 yard shuttle (11.83 sec.).

It appears that Langi is considered a day three prospect and would be able to help at inside linebacker with enough skill to stay on the field for passing situations.

#Texans defensive line coach Anthony Weaver taking in Michigan’s pro day.

12:29 PM - 24 Mar 2017

Lamar running back Kade Harrington (Kingwood) has been invited to Texans' local prospect day, per a source. Also has official Giants visit

Per Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle

Rick appears to be serious about taking a wide receiver. I thought we were stacked at that position. Possible preparation for a Hopkins departure in 2018?

Also Jabrill Peppers:

The Texans have been quiet this off-season and have not had any of their decision makers or coaches front and center at the collegiate pro-days. That changed this past week when defensive line coach Anthony Weaver attended Michigan’s pro-day.

With Weaver in attendance, there is a decent idea of at whom he could have been looking given the position group he coaches. Defensive linemen Ryan Glasgow, Matt Godin, and Chris Wormley were the headliners from the trench group. All three defensive lineman have been seen multiple times by the Texans this off-season - Godin and Glasgow were watched by the team at the East West Shrine Game and then at the Senior Bowl, team personnel met with Wormley and Glasgow. The Texans even had an informal meeting with Wormley at the NFL Combine, so there have been plenty of eyes on the group to this point.

Those three are names to continue monitoring this off-season, especially Wormley, with whom the Texans have met numerous times.

Wormley was a three-year letterman who appeared in 50 games for the Wolverines, making 29 starts. He was Michigan’s top defensive lineman the past two seasons, receiving the Richard Katcher Award, given to the team’s top defensive lineman annually. Starting all 12 games in 2016, Wormley had 36 total tackles with 5.5 sacks and 7.5 tackles for loss. In his career, 31.5 stops of Wormley's stops went for a loss while he totaled 119 tackles and 17.5 sacks.

Hmm, if they take Wormley, it will have to be in the third.
I didn't think a D-lineman was that crucial - sounds like they will let Antonio Smith go and I would say VW is done too.

I had assumed Smith and Wilfork were gone this season. Selecting Wormley to me would signal that they will have a plan to limit JJ's reps with quality depth on the line to spell him.

That thought occurred to me too - but I guess I don't really want to contemplate Watt not being Watt. He says he will be fine.
Perhaps they think he may not be up to handling his previous workload - but keeping him off the field won't be easy.
To take a D-lineman that high may mean a totally unexpected move.

I would be opposed to it, but the most likely scenario may be, they plan on moving Clowney back to OLB. I think Clowney came alive at DE this year & I'd love to see him opposite of Watt on the line.

The Texans continue to be on the prospect trail and have three workouts lined up with potential players. They will be working out Northwestern State defensive back Adam Jones, Ohio linebacker Tarell Basham, and Bucknell offensive tackle Julie’n Davenport.

As first reported by NFL Draft Diamonds, safety Adam Jones (6’2", 204 lbs.) went to Seven Lakes High School and will be attending the local workout on April 8th. With 62 total tackles and 2.5 tackles for loss, Jones will have to impress the Texans to get a look at the end of the draft.

The Texans will be working out the four-year starter from Ohio, Basham, according to Jeff Ridson. Basham (6’2", 262 lbs.) had 49 total tackles, with 14.5 tackles for loss, and 9 sacks in 14 games during the 2016 season. Most expect him to play the edge in a 4-3 or stand up in a 3-4 at the next level.

Also, according to Tony Pauline, the Texans will be working out Bucknell offensive tackle Julie’n Davenport. Davenport (6’7", 318 lbs.) is expected to be taken in the top 100 picks of the upcoming draft but, as a player, has some things to fine tune coming from FBS Bucknell. Handling the lower levels of football, Davenport will have to prove he can lock up on NFL Sundays versus elite defenders.

Julie'n Davenport - T - Bison
Bucknell T Julie'n Davenport has private workouts scheduled with the Cowboys, Jaguars and Texans, according to Tony Pauline.

Davenport also wrapped up a workout with the Patriots. Third day tackles with "upside" are difficult to find, and Davenport appears to be a favorite for many teams. He could serve as a swing tackle early on while being active on gameday.

How are we stacked at that position? Other than Hopkins no one on this team has proven s*** at that position.

I think you have to hedge with Hopkins some, also these aren't guys that are going early, these are later round picks.

To be fair those guys played all of last season handicapped ..... I'd like to see this group with something approaching a mediocre quarterback instead of historically piss poor.

To be fair strong hasn't been able to stay on the field since he was drafted. Fuller drops almost as many as he catches and Miller looked like crap when he was healthy. No one else even deserves mentioning.

AJ dropped passes just as much as Fuller his rookie season, but improved his 2nd year. They should do whatever it was that helped AJ. It would be nice to have dependable dual threats.

Even in his second year Andre had a few key drops. I don't think I trusted his hands until year four... but didn't see the benefits until Schaub got here.

Marcus Maye - DB - Gators
Florida S Marcus Maye met with the Pittsburgh Steelers, Cleveland Browns and Houston Texans around his pro day.

Per Draft Analyst's Tony Pauline, Maye met with Steelers GM Kevin Colbert and also checked in with the Browns on Monday night. The Texans picked his brain on Tuesday. As for his pro day showing itself, Pauline called the 6-foot, 207-pounder "the day's big winner" and notes that during positional drills Maye "looked as good as the Gators' highly rated corners, displaying a quick, fluid pedal and smooth hip turn." Pauline has trumpeted Maye's wares throughout the process, writing back in early February that he had the potential to emerge as the "hidden gem" from Florida's secondary.

Any shot at getting him with one of our 4th round picks?

I watched Maye. I wouldn't take him before the 4th round given how many good safeties there are in this draft. Struggles with angles and can have problems reading plays, but he has the athleticism to make difficult plays when he reads things properly. He was very well coached at Florida, so you wonder if coaching is going to make a big difference in his game.

The big-ticket item at Ohio pro day is defensive end/outside linebacker Tarell Basham, a front-seven player swiftly moving up draft boards.

Position coaches from the ClevelandBrowns, Houston Texans, Dallas Cowboysand Philadelphia Eagles were on hand.

Thus far Basham’s marks include 4.64s in the 40 (4.70s at the combine), 4.3s in the short shuttle (4.35s at the combine) and 32.5 inches in the vertical jump (a one-inch improvement). He tipped the scales at 268 pounds, one less than Indianapolis.

Basham met with the Houston Texans and Dallas Cowboys last night. Besides those two teams, he has received a lot of interest from the New England Patriots, Jacksonville Jaguars, Carolina Panthers, New Orleans Saints and Cincinnati Bengals.

Sounds like he'd be a good fit here given the supporting cast in Houston and the talented coaching staff. If he's on the board in the 4th i'd take him!
