Nick Wright and John Lopez on 610 brought up the possibility of a Jadeveon Clowney trade, which McClain addresses in the podcast, and he talks about where the Texans might trade up to in the draft in order to grab a QB

What exactly is Jadeveon Clowney's trade value?
I don't like the idea of including him in a "trade up" scenario.
So the 22nd overall pick + Clowney can land us where? Top 10?
Our franchise quarterback would have to be there for me to like it.

Isn't it something to the affect that he has been covering the NFL for so long that he has endless stories similar to a tested war general and the war stories that come with it?
lol! It probably is something lame like that...

He should of called himself The Captain, because most of his reporting is just big fish stories
ha! And sometimes I wish he was The Private, especially when he starts babbling on about movie reviews on sports talk radio, as in I wish he'd keep that siht private!

If you listen to the interview, the radio pundits ask him about the Texans possibly trading Clowney. He said that its not going to happen and that Texans probably wouldnt get much for him anyways.

Clowney may have very little trade value at this point.

What is JDC worth now?

I'd say someone would give a 5th for him.

I wouldn't want to do that, but I think someone might offer that.

Ur apology should be as loud as Ur disrespect was
The JDC pick was not well thought out because if he blows up are you really going to put 200Ms on the DLine? No, no you arent. That pick should have been something else.

Philadelphia radio sports commentator Josh Innes called Philadelphia Eagles center Jason Kelce a “house negro” on the radio Wednesday.

Innes, who works for 94.1 WIP, was critical of Kelce’s loyalty to the Eagles coaching staff.

“Essentially what you’re getting here is that Jason Kelce is the house negro,” Innes said, claiming that Kelce, who is white, will be nothing more than a yes man to whoever the head coach might be.

“Yessir. Yes, boss. Absolutely, boss. Yes, sir boss. That is Jason Kelce — he is, whoever the head coach is gonna be, he’s gonna be all over that head coach.”

I suspect Josh is going to be looking for a new job, maybe a new line of work.

Yay this again. Any of the 32 teams have the #1 pick that year they ALL take Clowney. Doesnt matter if you have all future hall of famers on your d line you dont pass on a prospect like him.

after coming off 2-14 season we should of traded back for more picks this team had many holes and still does im just glad our team plays ******hard***** and managed to have two respectable seasons but hopefully the train can keep on trecking up and we can win the division again this year and this time play better in the Post season

Don't take the bait. This is just: "You all need to listen to these podcast guys discuss a swirling rumor that is actually just a hypothetical that they pulled out of nowhere."

It reminds me of when Colin Cowherd's says, "Everybody is out there saying (fill in the blank with whatever irrational idea), but they're all wrong, because I say (fill in the blank with rational rebuttal)." But no one was out there saying the irrational thing, Cowherd just makes up a strawman that he knocks down by stating the obvious.

Example: "Everybody is out there saying that football should start using breakaway flags instead of tackling, but I say we should just come up with targeting rules to reduce concussions." /tangent.

I was a strong proponent of trading back, but you need a trading partner and still need to get good value. I understood what happened even if I would have liked to receive a better offer.

You may say I’m a dreamer but I’m not the only one
On Clowney, I'd still take his upside over his trade value at this point, look at how Mercilus has improved over time having looked a poor pick for much of his rookie contract.

On the story, so he's brought up some straw man argument to knock down as filler, but then used that filler as click-bait on his website. That is incredibly suspect journalism.

I read NFL.com and see much of the same a lot of the time in their reporting. It's shoddy coverage but seems to work, the question is why do the masses (myself included) accept that and keep on clicking? They get you hooked on news, and then start manufacturing awful news to keep you hooked.

I found myself reading an article about how the Panthers' line backing corps likes to listen to Creed just earlier. Like what the hell makes that a top story?

Is that why 31 teams were never interested in trading up for this so-called "once in a generation player"?

I ask because I have not seen any definitive proof that he was 100% consensus among 32 teams at 1.1. I think this could just as easily be Texans marketing spin to justify the pick in hindsight. He certainly was not 1.1. by all the professional opinions in the media when you go back and examine the stories.

How much were the Texans asking in return? Higher the reward the more you can ask for. They obviously had a set price on the pick and were not moving from what they perceived as value.

Show me any reputable mock drafts that said not Clowney at #1.

Tbh, mock is not the same as rankings...

And I believe that if a poll was taken at the time it would have been more like 27 or 28 teams would of taken him #1

Nah, there were very few dissenting voices in the draft analysis machine leading up to the draft...totally independent of the Texans.

Rumors at the time were that Texans were fielding offers for the #1 overall, but I guess they didn't receive any offers good enough?

The one thing the Texans are really good at, it's getting the #1 overall at the worst times.

With that being said, I'm still a believer in Clowney. I wouldn't trade him for anything less than a 1st, or involved in a trade up to get Goff. My only issue with Clowney is that he may be blocking Mercilus' production?

GD the Texans for not doing what the mocks said they should :bender:
hehe...tbh, looking at all the 2014 mock drafts, I think there was a lot of copy/paste going on with these "experts". Too many of them have the same picks in the same order to be mere coincidence.

I'm not going 20/20 hindsight except for the small fact that the TEXANS NEEDED A QB.....and still do. I'm not at all surprised that they went herd mentality, though. It was the "safe" pick, a so-called "once in a generation player" (when has anyone lived up to that after Peyton Manning?), and it was McNair's alma mater.

I just think it is sad that this is a very bland franchise when it comes to any sort of bold decision making process, but that's what you get with a boardroom mentality. This organization needs a badass at the top, someone like Jimmy Johnson that has vision and is not afraid to take risks. JMO, but Kirby puts off a very Kumbaya vibe of everyone holding hands in the decision process. Hard Knocks only confirmed it for me.

Has anyone seen (or did anyone see at the time) any story about anyone trying to move up to get that pick? Even a rumor? If someone was interested but turned away by the Texans or declined to pay the price they were asking I can't imagine that happened without someone slipping something out somewhere.

It may have happened and I'm just unaware of it. Entirely possible. I just don't recall hearing or reading anything about it.

IIRC, (and granted my memory sux) Smith said after the draft that they had a few inquiries but were never really close to getting an acceptable offer to trade down. Not surprising as there wasn't a QB that most felt would go #1

2014 was an extremely deep and talented draft at the skill positions usually drafted in the top 5 or 10, so there very well could have been no serious inquiries due simply to a lack of need to trade up.

Smith gave a complete non-answer which some folks took as having received offers (and maybe they did) something like - we did not receive any offers we felt were adequate. Well 0 falls within that statement too. Nothing definitive that I recall to answer your question.

Well, McClain just said he believes Vrabel will turn down the SanFran job. He didn't claim it was based on any inside knowledge or information - just what he thinks will happen based on it not being a particularly desirable coordinator position, and Vrabel's bright future with the Texans.

Despair or rejoice as you deem appropriate.

Seriously. I have to keep asking myself if I'm being offended over something stupid, and I probably am, but as a vet, him being referred to as the general is offensive. I'll never like the guy as long as that's going on.
Would you be offended if it was "the Captain", or do you not get offended until it goes to the major or colonel level and above that would you really get pizzed off ?

Yeah, I'd still be offended. If his fat ass had actually been a general, or captain, or colonel, or hell, even a private, then he could use that moniker, as silly as that would be. In my eyes, he's The Poser Civilian John McClain.
