Bryan Hoyer Fan Club

Yates or Hoyer? Doesn't matter to me. They are both limited. Yates is more of a "gamer" though where Hoyer seems to shrink in the big moments and games. Both are backups who can spot start but should never, ever be given the reins of a team.

The QB position should have been addressed in the 2014 draft. Blake Bortles, Bridgewater, Carr, or Garrapolo. Any of the 4 would be WAY better than the stinking pile of dung masquerading as a starting NFL QB we have now.

Sadly, I'd rather have Fitzmagic back then what we have now.

I would sure like to know who ultimately said nah we can roll with some joker at QB. We don't need a good young QB with major upside. Who needs a QB anyway? Was that Ricky or was that OB or was their agreement from both?

I think it is safe to say that in my decade plus long existence on TexansTalk, that this thread and its entire premise as stated by the OP is by far the worst I have ever seen. No one thinks Hoyer is a decent NFL QB, not even his own mother. I'm so glad I didn't stick in town to watch this game.

I think Hoyer is a good teammate. He's a good player to have working under you. He practices hard I'm sure and he seems like a nice guy. He studies I have no doubt and probably knows the playbook inside out. He's most likely a very good person. I don't want to beat up on him anymore either. I just don't want to watch the offense of the football team I follow sit in idle for most of a game in prime time on national television shooting itself in the foot because he can't hit a guy in stride or put the ball on a WR who is wide open without underthrowing him.

He's not up to the job and I say that without a bit of malice in my heart toward him. It's not his fault that the guys in charge of our team think he's got it in him to lead a team to victory in the NFL.

I like Hoyer too much to see him come back too soon. Resolve the concussion issue and then decide whether to return next year. 2/3 concussions in 2 months is just too many.

According to Ed Werder, he may end very well end up doing just that: "#Texans worried Brian Hoyer's latest concussion and other injuries could cause QB to be out for a while. I'm told player is concerned."

Then again he could also be concerned by the very thought of going back out there.

Football Outsiders said:
Hoyer was sacked on his first dropback, then went 18 dropbacks in a row without getting sacked. Then his last eight dropbacks went like this: sack-fumble, 5-yard gain on second-and-11, sack, sack-fumble, incomplete, 40-yard gain, incomplete, sack. He only threw for four first downs all day.

2 concussions is a month - he needs to retire while his mind is still intact so he can enjoy life with his kids.

Not just that, I heard somewhere that's he's now had 5 total in his career.. given his mediocre ability to start with it's hard to justify why he would even bother risking further brain damage by taking the field again.

He's had a successful career as a small percentage of players ever make it to this level and he's made enough money to live off of... If I were him, I'd hang my cleats up and move on to the next chapter in my life

5 concussions.....that's getting into scary territory.....if he gets back on a football field with everything we are learning about this head trauma long term brain damage he is crazy.....just not worth it....He's a smart articulate guy.....become a tv analyst Hoyer....make big money watching & talking about football....or coaching if u want to stay on the field...the latest research is saying it's not just concussions that are long term damaging....it's all those other hits that have a cumulative affect....No way Obrien should let Hoyer back on a football field.....If he does he's a heartless self centered ego maniac..... (correction that's already what he is)

Hoyer is a 6-10 QB that's all he will ever be, and the fact that this organization has paraded this dude out like he is a winning starting QB is the bigger issue.
Your right THAT IS the big issue....that's on Obrien/Godsey....We can't blame Hoyer for loving the chance to be a starting QB....and the dud has played w/a lot of heart....but did Obrien think us fans were so dumb we would really believe & buy into this dog & pony show?? I think he actually did....because he's a classic narcissist

I'd find that hard to believe. I think he didn't factor all the things that happened to Hoyer between their time together in New England & now. I think he made excuses for what happened to Hoyer when the Texans played them & everything after that. I don't think he realized Hoyer is who Hoyer is, until that Kansas City game. But by then, he's stuck. What's he gonna do. He had his reasons for not liking Mallett. Then Savage got hurt & he probably put him on IR moreso due to anger than anything else.

He'd probably do it all very differently if he had the chance to do it over again. But from September to December, he's got to play the hand he drew.

Well said, man. I think the Texans Talk collective should get a 'get well' card for him and put your statement on there. Y'know, from all of us and all that jazz, because we care....about the future of this team....errr, I mean his long term health. ;)

Ba Humbug.....all I want for Christmas is a real winning QB. Hoyer is ok but Texans will never go far with him.

So today as ESPN was setting up the game and matchups, they flashed that Hoyer was 3-2 at home. That was when I knew we would lose. Why? because Hoyer is a career .500 QB. He is terrible and will forever crumble against good+ defense. 5 turnovers is unacceptable in any game, especially a playoff game. This is easily the worst playoff defeat in our history, and he takes all of the blame. The D held the offense as much as it could until the end. Sure the WR dropped a few balls, but this entire game is his fault.

Yep. The defense never gave up until Watt got hurt. That they were down 13-0 for 2 1/2 quarters with all those turnovers (and one special teams TD) was testimony to their defense giving them a chance to win. The offense in general, and Hoyer in particular, failed to embrace that chance.

Marshall had to be smoking dope with thorn when he started this dumbass thread.. in under no ******* sun.. regardless the damn planet is Hoyer a franchise QB WTF did I just watch

Today was not surprising and always expected from the time they first announced he was a Texan. I truly hope today's performance is the nail in the coffin and tells O'Brien all he needs to know about HIS QB.

Question:
What makes you (or anyone else) think O'Brien can coach up a rookie QB when he can't improve on his guy that spent significant time in this system?
anyone....?

:um: did you see my sig?

I know we can't always get what we want but I wish somebody would lock this ******* thread and let it sink to the bottom of the board so we don't have to keep looking at the idiot ramblings of Marshall when he made the decision to start this thing.

It needs to go in the locker where the Letterman Jackets are kept. You know, the one we don't open.

Maybe we can get Keenum back and have him and Yates battle it out with Weeden. We wouldn't need to draft a QB then. :evilb:
