SO the Texans are in first place in the division....

#Texans can sleep in on Sunday and possibly wake up in first all by themselves if the Broncos handle the Colts.

And some old, familiar faces can put them alone in first on Sunday.

"We got you Houston."

Bill o. Is,praying Fitz Carr and teddy don't make the playoffs he's in his office sweating

As sad as it might be (AND IT IS) we are right in the mix for the playoffs. Don't matter how you cross the finish line as long as you make is i suppose.

I think there should be a rule that Division Champions that do not have at least a .500 record should not be allowed in the playoffs.

That doesn't make any sense.

The four teams in a division play practically the same schedule. That's really the only way to say one team is better than another. To take that out of the equation doesn't make any sense. The best teams from each division play each other in the play offs. That's the way it should be.

Was the NFC South really that bad last year? The division champ went into the play offs with a 7-8-1 record. They won a play off game & this year, the two top teams are 7-0 & 6-2 with the third team at 4-4.

Who you play matters.

If that were the case, then there should be NO DIVISIONS. But if there are, then Overall record should not be the first determining factor of the DIVISION WINNER.

Right now, inconsistency is the only thing you can count on from the NFL.

Tied for first place at the bye week. I told you guys we had a 1st place team. But no, you wouldn't listen. You tried pointing out the obvious, like we don't have very much talent and the head coach is a complete buffoon and the owner is dumber than a retarded lizard. But I didn't listen, and why should I when we are tied for 1st place!

Yes my fellow fans, we are headed for someplace special this season!

hahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

Sweet! I can maintain false hope for another few weeks. :texflag:

Yep. Not the first time a team with less than 8 wins won their playoff game either. As shocking as this may sound to some, each year there are only a couple of really great teams and a couple of really bad teams. Everyone else is a lot closer than people think. From 2000-2010 the NFC West was a complete joke record wise. Yet during that span a team from that division made 4 out of 10 Superbowls, tied for the most trips to a Superbowl with the AFC East or more specifically the Patriots. That's 3 different teams from a single division playing in the Superbowl in just one decade. Bad division doesn't mean bad team.

Let's also keep in mind that entire divisions play each other, so one division may be feasting on another. For every division having an abnormally down year, some beneficiary will be having an abnormally high year. TK's point about the NFC South's success this year isn't a coincidence to me since that's the division playing the AFC South.

You want sad?

What if the playoffs started today?

It was destiny....Somehow Ricky Bobby blew it up. :(

Kinda like being Valedictorian in summer school, yes? :hides:

:spit: That's awesome, man!

I agree completely. It has a participation ribbon vibe about it to me. Division "championship" (which I find goofy) should not be more important than winning the most games. It is very much awarding mediocrity when you allow sub-.500 teams into the postseason and other teams that might have 10-11 wins from a good division are out.

Top 6 teams based on records. Division Champs only counts in seeding. Will never happen but would be nice to see.

I like it! Easy solution. Still keeps divisions intact but puts importance on winning games more than division "championships".

I've always liked the idea of abolishing divisions. Without divisions, each team in a conference plays every other team in the conference.

Looking forward to going 3-5 over the next half of the season and
remaining in the race..

<man this division is BAD!>

So Week 9 is when things start to get weird.

IND 3-5
HOU 3-5
JAC 2-5
TEN 1-6

We're off, The Titans lose to the Saints, The Jaguars may or may not get by the new QB needy Jets, and the Colts get beaten again by the Broncos which leads to.

HOU 3-5
JAC 3-5
IND 3-6
TEN 1-7

Then Week 10 comes along. The Colts get some much needed rest, we play the Bengals, the Panthers kill the Titans, and the Ravens beat the Jaguars (really could go either way). Now suppose for a moment that one of those weird upsets happen where a team (say "us") wins a game against a better opponent (Cincinnati in this scenario) for no good reason. Cincinnati does this from time to time. They're coming off a week 9 game against the Browns (should be an easy Bengals win) and then they get us before playing at Arizona in prime time.

They might overlook us. They might experience a massive brain fart like they do once or twice a season. We will be rested and ready. Lots of things could happen but IF week 10 goes down the way I'm hoping it does then the mighty AFC South looks like this on the other side.

HOU 4-5
JAC 3-6
IND 3-6
TEN 1-8

Now it all falls apart after this but here's who we have after that

Jets - Maybe a W. Probably not though.
Saints - Loss
Bills - Maybe a W. Probably not though.
Patriots - Loss, probably so bad a loss it counts as two
Colts - Loss
Titans - W
Jaguars - W

So 8-8 I imagine could happen but more than likely 6-10.

But for a couple of weeks, maybe three weeks (9 & 10, maybe 11) during the middle of the season in 2015 the sorry-ass Houston Texans may be alone at the top of the AFC South and thinking playoffs.

Who knows what happens after that but it will probably be really ugly.

Carr has been better and was actually there when we picked. I guess McNair didn't want the family back in town.

McNair didn't want the Carr family back in town? You mean the Texans fans didn't want them back! If they would've drafted Carr this fan base would've blown up! McNair, Smith, and BOB would've had to gone into hiding with their families! I think McNair liked Carr and his family. Thought David was the "face of the franchise" and all that stuff. I think he would've loved to have Derrick here but realized the fans just wouldn't stand for it. Most fans are just too short sighted. They only remembered the bad times with David Carr and thought Derrick will be just like him.

I agree with you, but O'Brien said prior to the draft that that wouldn't influence his decision. And McNair OKed the Mario Williams pick, which led to the meltdown over not taking VY/Bush. I just don't think they liked Derek. Really, I have no idea what O'Brien looks for in a QB. All he's drafted is a 24 year old project that still isn't ready.

<man this division is BAD!>

I know most would rather win a bad division and get to the playoffs with a losing record only to be blown out in the 1st round, but I really think it would be better for the team to lose out and get a top QB in the draft next season. If they win the division with a 6-10 or 7-9 record they don't get to pick with the rest of 6 or 7 win teams. They pick with the teams that are in the playoffs with 10 and 11 wins at the back end of the draft like Carolina did in the last draft. The top QB's will probably be off the board by then. This team needs to draft a top QB and start developing him for next season. Hoyer is not the answer and neither are some of these other QB's that BOB has been pulling off the scrap heap!

Does anybody have any idea what BOB looks for in any player? With all the cuts of his own draft picks I'm beginning to think he doesn't even know what he wants in a player!

I think that's the continuation of the Texans Civil War. General Kubiak has been replaced by General O'Brien. The yankee is still kicking their ass.

Apparently, being Tom Brady's backup is all that is needed on their resumes.

Looking good in secret practices is just a bonus.

I'd go the opposite way. I like the division winners getting a guaranteed spot. But I'd seed them by record. Winning this shitty division gets you a spot, but it shouldn't guarantee you a home game.

I'm starting to lean this way but only if the division winner doesn't have a winning record. If you win your division at 8-8 or worse, then you still make the playoffs, but play on the road if the Wild Card team has a better record. If you're 9-7 or better, leave it like it is. You get your home game even if the WC is 11-5.

Please don't let this team make the playoffs, because some of us were dumb enough to sign up for pay as you go and the thought of paying to watch this team get their brains beat in on wild card weekend makes me want to heave. I don't think we have anything to worry about because I don't see us beating a lot of these teams the past few months and Yates might get a start because with no running game Hoyer is going to get injured against one of these good defenses.

I wonder how many Ravens, Packers, and Giants fans felt that way when they won their SBs. Giants barely snuck in twice if I'm not mistaken and so did the Ravens. Packers were expected to be a one and done type of team as well. Texans certainly won't win a SB, but I've seen a ton of first round upsets over the years like the Panthers last season. That luck and that run they made built confidence into the next season.

Eh.... I guess thats what happens when every team in your division is.... this guy.

The question is...... who is going to stumble and fall over the finish line first.

Yeah, let me know how this works out When your team gets booted from the playoffs because of it

How did Eagles fans feel last season with a 10-6 record but no playoffs because a 7-8-1 team won a division "championship"?

Same in 2010 when a 10-6 Giants were out because a 7-9 Seahawks won a division "championship".

I personally think it's a lame policy by the NFL and awards mediocrity over wins.

And the entire "championship" thing about a 4 team division is freakin' lame. We don't even use that rather goofy word-game for kids in little leagues.
