Kansas City Chiefs @ Houston Texans. Noon. 9/13. CBS. **Official Liberty White Thread**

IT'S TIME.

EXPERT PICKS:

http://espn.go.com/nfl/picks/_/week/1/seasontype/2
http://weeklypickem.fantasy.nfl.com/experts
http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/features/writers/expert/picks/straight-up/1

Players to watch:

Brian Hoyer:

The Texans starting QB will be on watch this week, as well as all season. Must be precise, efficient and at least effective enough to keep the D honest. Coach O'Brien trusts him, so he has to prove his worth the second the lights are on.

Justin Houston:

The 2014 leader in sacks comes into H-Town looking to lead a very good pass rush vs. an offense that may look at more than a few 3rd and longs. If KC can get the Texans into some 3rd and 7+ situations, Houston could get some chances to tee off.

Match-up to watch:

Chiefs CBs vs. DeAndre Hopkins

With no Sean Smith (suspended) to possibly shadow him, the KC corners will be on watch. Phillip Gaines, Marcus Cooper and Marcus Peters could all take a shot vs. Nuk. Remains to be seen what KC does to cover one of the better wideouts in the league.

Well, well, well! What's this? THE RETURN OF THE TEXANS, that's what! Fam, it's been a bit of a wait. Folks have had kids from week 17 of last season, to now. Ha! Jokes aside, folks: It's time for some games that count! It's a new season, but nothing has changed: 1-0 every week! Let's start this season out right, and get the season off to a phenomenal start! LET'S MUTHAFUCKIN' GO, TEXANS!!

All local Houston Sonics have free 20 oz. slush drinks on Tuesdays following a Texans win in 2015. Looking forward to getting mine on Tuesday. I enjoyed this same promotion nine times last year.

Oh happy day! Go Texans! Let the powers that be in the universe come together for a drubbing of these Chiefs.

We are getting the Packers-Bears game on Sky Sports here in the UK, but I've already purchased NFL Game Pass for the iPad. Not missing a minute of this season!

You are going to love it! It's the only way to watch the NFL. The live stats, the condensed games, the ability to listen to the local broadcasters instead of national guys. Your iPad as an HDMI port right? If so you can plug it into your big screen and watch in HD.

I think I can mirror off of my AppleTV. Last year I ran Game Pass on my MacBook Pro as well and used my iPad to keep flipping back between all the other games. Going to try for the big screen this year.

So, with the ability to listen to local broadcasters, you'd have British play-by-play and a British color commentator? If so, that would be a trip to listen to. I'm sure pretty cool.

I saw at a Scottish Claymore's game once during the old NFLE days, and that was awesome being amongst the crowd. Some of those peeps knew as much...maybe even more...about American football as I did!

Oh...and go Texans!!!!

Actually it's the local Texans broadcasters. I meant local to Houston. The only problem is it seems a bit delayed compared to the game action. It can be annoying. I usually listen to the nation broadcast, unless it's an guy I can't stand like Costas, Diefdorf, etc.

So of course with the game today at noon my son's first Fallball game is at 1230...to make matters worse I live in Chiefs Country so...here's to not hearing the score until I can get home and watch it on the DVR. I think the chances of that happening are very low-especially since I'll be wearing my shiny new 99 Jersey to the game today.

Luckily, Dierdork has spared us and retired.

Nope, the local broadcasters are the official team broadcasters, not local British broadcasters. Sky literally pumps in the Fox feed and cuts away to their UK studio or UK commercials during game breaks. Would be fun though!

I've been listening to KCMO radio Chiefs network. They've been talking about the field. As they put it, evidently an eye in the sky at the equivalent distance of 250 stories, the uneven seams are still grossly evident. They have announced that, due to strong complaints voiced about the condition of the field for this game, NFL officials have been flown in to examine the field.

Okay, this boils my blood. How the **** do you allow people to play on that? It has been pretty bad before but this is just garbage.
Yea i'm with you on this. Thats about as bad as i have ever seen it. Looks all uneven, i really wish they would just install artificial turf it is safer than this crap we play on.

Hoping that the Texans win, but I really hope that the Texans don't lose anyone important to injury. When these 2 teams met in 2013 Cushing was lost for the season. When they met in 2010 DeMeco Ryans was lost for the season. My prediction for today's game: 17-16 Texans. Defense bends but doesn't break in the red zone on all but 1 drive.

Nothing new to us......
The field crew would have to receive a massive pay raise, working around the clock, in order to keep the NRG Field in perfect condition all the time. They would have needed to be out there at midnight to 6 AM (no breaks) putting in serious work just to look good today.

It's going to be beat up and torn on a lot of Texans game days because of all the events scheduled. In the past there have been college football games played on it 24 hours before we took the field. We should have been an NFL only stadium and play the other events elsewhere. Which is why I wanted the Astrodome to be renovated but that vote would have never passed.

They use field turf for high school and college games.

There would actually be less injuries on what we have now if we could keep it in good shape.

6 Whooping hours to have the field looking good ? I'm sure they could manage that, i mean this is a billion dollar industry. Last thing we need is one of our million dollar guys to get hurt playing on this crap due to 6 extra hours of work.

I was just looking at Jadeveon Clowney's original injury against the Redskins last year. Hard to tell even when I pause frame it but it appeared he stepped into one of those uneven cuts on the field. Wasn't he angry with the field initially but then downplayed it later on? It made big news at the time.

He did not. He stepped right in the middle of a pallet. It's been shown in blown up stills by the Chronicle.

JD did not say anything. DJ Swearinger said he was upset.

The NFL Network is talking about the NRG Field now.
Live reporter is on the field showing that same area you pictured.
They say the Chiefs offensive players have complained already.
Kansas City players deem it unsafe during warmups. Interesting.
Would rather suspend the game but they realize they have to play.

The reporter for NFL Network just said Jadeveon Clowney told a team mate last year his injury occurred when he stepped into one of the holes. And Bill Belichick was outraged with the league when Wes Welker got hurt here in that final game years ago.

Uncle Rico

Ur apology should be as loud as Ur disrespect was
Embarassing how awful that playing surface is seriously. Holes filled in with sand? I'd sue the **** out of the Texans/Stadium Mgrs if I was a player and blew my knee out, thats downright negligent.

Well assuming all players from both teams don't tear their ACLs and blow out there knees during warm ups game time is 45 minutes away....

I always ignored this type of talk in the past but I admit this has been a big issue for several years now. I now understand all of the frustrations and anger you guys have felt. You're definitely right. This is embarrassing because the Houston Texans are a first-class organization. It's irresponsible not to have a safe environment for the players.

Texans are ranked as one of the most valuable sports franchises IN THE WORLD. Absolutely no excuse for not addressing the concern years ago. Like the reporter said there are incidents going back 6 years. And after thinking about it Brett Hartman was/is trying to get compensation from blowing out his knee on that field. Defenseless.
