Who else thinks the Texans are going to crash and burn in 2015

My blood is boiling after watching the last Hard Knocks. I yelled obscenities at the TV every time I saw Dick Smith's phony ass. Dick's shortcomings as a GM were there for everyone to see. Do you actually think this fake internet bravado shtick you do impresses anyone?

I know you've never walked in front of a jury ... and won.

I'll spare you the time - I'm the worst moderator on any MB through all times and dimensions.

Thank YOU

Total aside - are you by chance from Oklahoma.

Nice try. I'm not a litigator. Have any more non sequiturs that you like to throw out? Not only are you the worst moderator on this board you are also its worst poster. Do you realize how disliked you are here? Lots of fellow posters complain about you to me in private. You would do all of us a favor if you resigned from being a moderator and deleted your account.

You know it is knid of cute when the Wayans intentionally misuse words. On Transactional Man it isn't as funny. Do they sell a leotard for that? Duh da duh, writes **** he'll never have to enforce by day, angry internet tough guy by night.

OK pony up. You know at trial we have a thing called proof. You copy boys may not know about it.

Put your evidence on for the 1st time.

If you can find oh let's say 25 folks who agree with you ( that anyone knows) I'm out of here?

You up to do the same?

My wife isn't a litigator - aside from dealing with me - and said of Smith near the end of tonight's show, "Now where did he come from? He bothers me."

Look up the definition of what "private" means. I am not going to reveal anything to you that was said privately to me in confidence. The reason you are an awful moderator is because, instead of raising the level of discourse, you lower it with your condescension and personal attacks. Not going down that road with you.

It's all in the editing. And the editing didn't do him any favors.

Didn't ask you to disclose anyone.

Asked people to stand up in support of you.

You know that was very clear in my post. We call it evidence. It's hard to swear anonymous sources in. We'll you might not know that even though you didn't need a day of law school to know it.

It's cool we all know you can't do it.

I think from 2002-2006, we had a GM exactly like you're wanting. I believe that's where/when we accumulated that 30 games under .500 because we've been a .500 team since Rick's been our GM.

Check my math, please. I want to fire Rick Smith just because, so please don't think I'm defending him, or the way he works, or the job he's done. I'm just saying the math doesn't add up. Rick Smith has little to do with the Texans being 30 games under .500

Awe c'mon . You're online. Pony is right over there.

I'm sure an all important comma placement will resolve this whole thing.

Do they give you something like best " of the month?

There are some people that are on the Hate Smith bandwagon simply because he wasn't fired along with Kubiak. So therefore, when they want to ***** and complain, Smith is going to be the target. Everyone, including TexansFight, wanted OB to be the head coach, so even if the world came to an end, OB would get a pass, and it would be all on Rick Smith.

He's just a target.

To the rest of the MB. Yeah i know.

Remember this next time someone whines about having different positions and claims to have been banned etc.

First 4 seasons under Casserly - 28 games under .500
Next 9 season under Smith - 4 games under .500 (at .500 not counting that final HWSNBN season when Gary/Rick were rookies)

If something that you have zero control over gets your blood boiling, bird watching might be for you. See if you can find one of these:

There seems to be a pattern to the posters that have a problem with cak.

I think it's called "whiny ass little b1tch" syndrome.

LOL! Uncle Tom is a reference thrown out by blacks all the time for phonies like Rick Smith. Do some research about the phrase "Uncle Tom" and "house slave" before making another ignorant comment. I studied history in college. These references go over a lot of people's heads apparently.
Some people know the etymology of the term and realize how inappropriate it is just because a white man and a black man get along. Hate is not the default position unless you have race based hatred which needs to be worked out and eliminated.

Yes, it is possible for a black man to be racist, no matter how much some racists try to deny it. And "Uncle Tom" and "House Slave" are their clarion calls.

It's actually not liking a condescending moderator who makes personal attacks. Of course, sunshine pumpers who believe in daisies and unicorns about the prospects of this season will rush to his defense.

Rick didn't show up 'till 2007.

So that's -32 before Rick, dead even after.

He's not condescending per se, he can just argue any subject on any side better than most, and that hurts some fragile egos.

And you haven't seen me pump my sunshine, if you did I'd make you cry.

We were an expansion team so Casserly gets a pass for at least the first 2 seasons. Casserly was responsible for our best draft ever in 2006. So Rick's record as a GM is .500. For the Texans, it appears .500 is good enough for them to be satisfied. If it wasn't, Rick would have been fired already. Virtually every other team in the league would have fired Rick by now. It is no accomplishment whatsoever for Dick to have a .500 record. The league is designed for parity.

Going back to 2007 I bet there are more teams below .500 than at or above. You and several others believe it is a bad thing. As if you don't know the NFL as well as you'd like people to believe.

There was a time when this was a "below 500" team. We are currently a "500" team. The question is are we on our way to being a "below .500" team, a ".500" team, or an "above .500" team.

We all hope we are on our way to being an "above .500" team. That Bill O'Brien started his career above .500 is good & puts us ahead of the curve.

Rick Smith's .500 record (over his career) should prove not to be a detriment or hindrance to OB's ability to get this team consistently over .500, unless you believe Kubiak was an "above .500" coach & Smith has been pulling him down.

The funny thing is the amount of folks clamoring for Teddy when last year he was frowned upon . I think if you hit 40% of your draft you're doing well and QB is the hardest to find .

At the end of the day we all know we don't have the QB of the future on the roster but neither does most of the league . Mariota and Winston aren't going to make their teams contenders this year and their OL better be good or they'll be running .

The cumulative over/under of all teams since Smith was hired in 2006. Sorting is first by Superb Owl appearances (this shows good GM work, right) then high to low over/under for all non-SB teams. Those in bold represent teams with GM's that have longer tenure than Smith (based on the data I was able to pull).

A Super Bowl appearance during Smith's tenure gives you a free pass:
Patriots - 80 games over .500 (3 SB appearances)
Colts - 46 games over .500 (2 SB appearances)
Steelers - 36 games over .500 (2 SB appearances)
Giants - 14 games over .500 (2 SB appearances)
Seahawks - 12 games over .500 (2 SB appearances)
Packers - 45 games over .500 (1 SB appearance)
Ravens - 36 games over .500 (1 SB appearance)
Saints - 30 games over .500 (1 SB appearance)

Broncos - 20 games over .500 (1 SB appearance)
Bears - 12 games over .500 (1 SB appearance)
49ers - 10 games over .500 (1 SB appearance)
Cardinals - 2 games under .500 (1 SB appearance)

Win in the regular season games but that is about it:
Chargers - 32 games over .500 (0 SB appearances)
Cowboys - 24 games over .500 (0 SB appearances)
Eagles - 17 games over .500 (0 SB appearances)

Pretty much breaking even over the last 9 years:
Falcons - 10 games over .500 (0 SB appearances)
Bengals - 4 games over .500 (0 SB appearances)
Texans - 4 games under .500 (0 SB appearances)
Panthers - 5 games under .500 (0 SB appearances)
Titans - 6 games under .500 (0 SB appearances)
Jets - 6 games under .500 (0 SB appearances)
Vikings - 9 games under .500 (0 SB appearances)

These teams have just been bad:
Dolphins - 22 games under .500 (0 SB appearances)
Chiefs - 28 games under .500 (0 SB appearances)
Bills - 28 games under .500 (0 SB appearances)
Redskins - 34 games under .500 (0 SB appearances)
Jaguars - 36 games under .500 (0 SB appearances)
Bucs - 40 games under .500 (0 SB appearances)
Lions - 47 games under .500 (0 SB appearances)
Browns - 48 games under .500 (0 SB appearances)
Rams - 49 games under .500 (0 SB appearances)
Raiders - 58 games under .500 (0 SB appearances)

Middle Tier, especially if you bring the Bears/49ers/Cardinals into the discussion based on cumulative over/under and no free pass for one fluke SB season. Smith is nowhere near the worst GM in the league, nor would he have been sacked by the "vast majority" of owners for his record to date.

Wow, Sandman. Thanks for doing all the heavy lifting.

However, I still contend Rick Smith's influence on the 2006 team was minimal. He may have had input on the evaluations of the players who eventually made the 53, but Kubiak would have had the most influence since he cardinal say of the 53.

Rick had little say & probably little knowledge of the players on the 2006 roster. I'm not saying he just sat on his thumbs for 2006. Only that his influence wasn't that great.

But it's only 4 games, so no biggie.

Very good informative post, Sandman!

Should be a required reading assignment for a couple of 'usual suspects' around here.

Whether Smith had any saying the 2006 draft, his record is at most mediocre.

The Texans drafted higher then the average, even not counting 2006.

I'm not on the firing Rick Smith squad, but I certainly would look for an upgrade.

Sandman with phrase of the day.
Superb Owl.
That's classic.

-What are you gonna do now that you've won the Superb Owl?

-I'm going to Hogwarts!

Yeah that four game swing would not move him up any places on this list. The next closest team is the Bengals at +8.

Starting with 2007 since Smith was hired after the 2006 draft: 10, 26, 15, 20, 11, 26, 27, 1 and 16. That is an average draft position of 17, aided greatly by a 1:1 pick. 4 picks in 9 years at #20 or later is not drafting higher than average. There are only 3 high picks in Okoye (10), Watt (11) and Clowney (1). Every other one is mid or late round.

7-8-1

Defense will play well, offense will struggle to score. Offensive line might be a weakness and add to that a back up running game and journeyman QB? Makes me shudder.

Did the Texans have a 10th draft slot?

Dude, Cak and I have argued and fought over more than you can imagine. The thing is, he's interesting and makes good arguments and adds a lot to the board. Even when I hate him I would still go grab a beer with him. The stuff you say and the outrage you display however, is just annoying. "I've got a lot of friends that don't like you and tell me so in private". If you intended to keep it private you wouldn't have said anything about it... Enough with the soggy taco routine.

Agreed. Cak infuriates me sometimes, especially when I'm drinking, but he does add a lot of good thoughts to the discussion and I find him to be pretty fair. I would've banned me for some of the things I posted about him. He's def got thick skin. LOL It really pisses me off when I read something sober, the next day, and he was just yanking my chain.

Yeah Cak can be a d!ick at times, but aren't we all sometimes? The part you are failing to separate is Cak as a fan, and Cak as a moderator. Calling him the worst moderator in the world, universe, blaa, blaa, blaa is absurd because his moderation duties --thread moving, merging, closing, etc-- are carried out without issues. What you have a problem with is Cak as a fan, and that's fine. But don't expect that because he also has moderator duties that he should subscribe to the "the customer is always right" mantra. After all, we are not customers, and this is not the official Texans message board.

Since you cannot block him, is it that much to ask that you have some self control and just scroll past his postings instead of reading them and engaging him? I think it all comes down to the fact that you cannot bully him into you way of thinking, so you resort to ad hominem which reveals a lot more about your character than it does his. I doubt you have many friends --based on your hostile attitude-- on this board, and find it even more unlikely that they would be discussing Cak in private messages with you in some kind of "feel sorry for me, Cak is picking on me" circle jerk.

Agreed

I don't like how he makes things personal by calling people's character into account/constant talk about penis, penis size/calling people drunks etc.... being a MB bully.

With that said, Cak is very fair and although I disagree with him mostly, I truly appreciate the job he does here. Being a mod is a truly thankless job.

The guy on this MB that I would not have a beer with is BADBOY and that is probably because I don't like beer.

After all, we are not customers, and this is not the official Texans message board.

We were originally mods on the official board before its history got merged with Texans Talk. We had to be very strict when we had corporate overlords. We were representing and protecting a brand, one worth a helluva' lot of money.

Now, though, things are a bit more relaxed and we let a lot of things slide that NEVER would have been allowed on the official board. Back then, someone would report it to Houston Texans, Inc. and we'd have to hear about it (through Vinny, of course, the Texans never took care of mods like other teams have done).

I'd say in the 10+ years that I've known 'cak, everyone that has been on the receiving end of him deserved it. I'm not saying this as a fellow mod, but as a fan. Unregulated and no-mod boards suck ass and fail every time. And at least one mod has to be the enforcer. Vinny carried the load for a long time, but got tired of being a target and eventually burned out. Which sucks, because he had a great mind for analyzing football and is just a good dude in general. Since then, 'cak has taken over the role, and he tends to not sweat the little things and does not seem to give a crap about being a target of pointless vitriol.
