Your "ask the coaches" opportunity

What would your questions to Texans coaches be? This is not involving owner/admin/GM or medical staff or players. For this scenario they must answer. Please..no one ask about what foods they like; we'd have 30 pages on that.

I'd like to ask each coach individually, what is their plan to beat the colts

What was the cause for the drop in output from the TE position , Graham had 49 catches in 2013 & the entire group had 32 in 2014.

Which players on our roster have any experience or aptitude playing center?

Follow up - Does our LS specialist ever get practice as a regular center?

(I think this is a superb thread.) Question for head coach: Why not hand the ball to the FB more often and take some pressure off Foster?

Because basically nobody in the NFL does it and it doesn't work for ****. Division winners as a sample:

NE - 3 att. 1.7 ypc
Pittsburgh - 2 att. 0 ypc
Indy - 0 att.
Broncos - 6 att. 3.7 ypc
Dallas - 0 att.
Green Bay - 24 att. 3.5 ypc
Carolina - 37 att. 2.1 ypc
Seattle - 1 att. 2 ypc

Green Bay most "successful" at it and they gave up a full ypc to their regular RBs.

I'd like to ask O'Brien why he waited until week 11 to start Mallett? Maybe after he answered Ryan's question.

If we're going to be asking questions like this, though the OP said not about the players, then I'd ask what are his thoughts on Posey... why is he on the roster.

Odds of 4th round or later QBs becoming productive starters are slimer than slim. Did we draft Tom Savage with that in mind, or did we believe he has what it takes to beat the odds?

I read my OP again and feel I need to clarify; ask coaches about anything but questions are to them only not to the players/GM/admin or GM so as not to sidetrack as we often do.

Ok as a clarification qurstion, do you intend this thread to be all hypothetical questions with no discussion or not?

Do you have some means of getting these in front of one of the coaches?

How he thinks his 1st yr went and what he can do to improve what he does and what upgrades are most needed to next yrs roster to be a playoff team? How's Mallett doing?

God please let it be - do you line up your draft board according to need like a do?
As frustrating as you can be you do occasionally provide me a laugh. If I did ask that, I think he would agree with my true thoughts on drafting. You draft highest priority need guy unless a much higher rated guy is available. For me, that would almost always have to be a very rare thing. BTW, I think my first and third rounds on newest mock are BPA and maybe both in round five.

I am still working on my question(s).

My questions that must be answered fully and honestly

Why do team medical evaluations seem to be off so frequently from what turns out later?

Are you settling for what you could get at QB or is one of these three the answer based on what you have seen? Share if that is so.

Has Bob McNair set any goals for your team, (coaches and players) that you disagree with?

Very good questions

In our hypothetical scenario, I assume they MUST answer and tell the truth. In that case, I'd ask... "How often do you lie, or avoid telling the truth, to the public in regards to the Texans?"

That's rhetorical right? They lie every time. They never tell the full truth. It simply is not in their best interest to do so.

While this is an interesting question - and one we ALL want to know the answer to - O'Brien/Crennel aren't the folks it should be directed to. This is a question for the McNairs, both Robert and Cal because Clowney is just the latest example of medical evaluations that were "off" (that's putting it mildly). This crap goes all the way back to Boselli.

Hey don't get irked at me; it was YOUR rule to make it a coaches only question.

My question would be to ask if I could experience a Texans game from the practice field prior to the game, to the locker room, to the side line during a game.

My questions would be along the lines of was there not enough conclusive evidence at the combine or pro day or any check up Clowney went through prior to the draft? Besides his lack of strong play the year prior and the not so ringing endorsement given by his HC... Did they just buy into the hype and thought he was worth the gamble?

Next I'd ask about why or what was their scouting on Bridgewater? It wouldn't have been a huge move up back into the first and would've been a smaller gamble than on Nix. Granted I think Teddy probably projects closer to Matt Ryan than anything, bit bottom of the first round on Matt Ryan? Most GMs would say yes.

Granted only thing I can think is they had Mallet on their radar prior to draft and that's why they targeted things the way they did.

Speaking of Mallet... Why didn't they turn to him a lot quicker when it was beyond obvious that Fitz was struggling bad?

There was a good possibility that Bridgewater was going to fall to us with the first pick in the second round. I can't blame them for taking the chance without having to give up another pick. It didn't work, but that was not a dumb move. The team WITH the pick would not have drafted him and a trade was the only risk and there aren't that many trades.

No there was not a good chance. His fall was already considered shocking. Everyone in the world expected the Texans to take a QB. IF they wanted him it was incredibly dumb not to move to get him.

We moved when worried Nix might go before falling to us. We didn't want Bridgewater or were dumb.

No offense man, but anyone on this board right now can tell me that. Yeah of course they had thought or hoped that maybe he fell to the first pick of the second round. I also find it hard to believe that Seattle wouldn't have called after getting Minnesota's offer a chance to essentially get the same deal but move back only one pick. That's a no brainer.

Again my bigger question is what was their scouting on Bridgewater that didn't make them jump up that one spot? Did he just not fit the mold of what Bill looks for? Did they have Savage grade out higher? Did they already have their sights set on a Mallet trade?

TBH, when Bridgewater fell, I wanted the Texans to move up and get him. But let's be honest here. What did he do in 2015 that makes you believe he is a franchise QB?

2015
Bridgewater: 14 TD's 12 INT's 85.2 QBR (13 games/12 starts)
Fitzpatrick: 17 TD's 8 INT's 95.3 QBR (12 games/12 Starts)

problem is that's as good as it gets for Fitzy. Bridgewater was just getting his feet wet.

...unless you think those numbers represent Bridgewater's all time high season

Come on Nitro. I know we can't remove the misnomer 6 TD game from Fitz, but it paints a way different picture. From that we can see pretty similar performance from a statistics standpoint.

The difference though is one is a journeyman QB who just got traded for a 7th round pick. The other is a rookie QB in his first year who will make mistakes. However, he showed to end the season he's grasped an NFL playbook and helped lead his team to three wins in the last 5 games of the season with the two loses by a combined total of... Two points. Keep in mind that's without a two thousand yard back he could've been able to hand the ball off to and a first year HC.

By all means though take Fitz as your guy.

What kind of numbers would TB have to put up to be considered a franchise QB? Last yr Bridgewater looked like a good prospect not a sure thing franchise QB. IMHO.

His career could go either way, the Brady way, (Both were gam managers as young QB's) or Sanchez (The type of QB that is a game manager who doesn't develop, either due to lack of work ethic or avg arm strength.)

To be fair I wasn't high on TB last yr and last yr is a good representation of what I think TB will become. OK not great.

You're asking the wrong guy. I think TB looked good for a rook on a mediocre team with old Greg Jennings as his most dangerous weapon. I think TB will do okay with Norv teaching him that Air Coryell offense. ...assuming they get him more weapons.
