Ray Rice arrested in Atlantic City

Do you see the key word difference in your sentences? - convicted v. arraigned.

I'm not fond of the NFL handing out punishment without a conviction except for the drug/alcohol issues the players agreed to.

I'm not a fan of God'ell being judge and jury even if there are no charges/convictions brought against said player.

I'm a Ravens fan so I can see where some people think I may have bias. I do not. No reason to hit a woman, ever. It is only when a Mosquito lands on your testicles that you realize that Violence cannot solve every problem.

#1- no one but the Prosecutor and the NFL people who saw the tape, know whats on it and happened in the elevator. people should use the word "allegedly" when they say Rice "knocked her out"...no one but a select few know.

#2- the comparisons of drug use and Rice's case a ridiculous. :smoke weed get a year, knock a hoe out, get 2 games". Well, Josh Gordon is a 3 time offender. THIRD time he has put something in his body HE KNOWS IS BANNED. Duh. Rice made a horrible mistake- one any of us could and have made already.

#3- the penalties for offenses under the Drug and Alcohol Policy of the NFL are clear cut. 1st time- enter the Program and submit to random testing. 2nd time offense is 4 games. 3rd time is 1 year ban...what Rice did falls under Personal Conduct Policy- where the punishments are vague and widespread.

#4- if players, media, etc are mad at Goodell dispensing justice, the players should be blamed because they agreed to the CBA which left him as judge jury and executioner in exchange for less practice time, less OTA's, less padded practices and more money.

A lot of ignorance is on display here by fans, players, media and generally everyone.

Lenient Ray Rice suspension leads Roger Goodell to admit he was wrong, create new and tougher policy

This is the only reason that this has been acted on.......the NFL, Goodell, the owners and the players have finally been forced to the travel the "walk of shame."

Although NFL player arrests in general seem to be lower than the general population, domestic violence demonstrates an inordinately high distribution.

This article is quite eye-opening to the true problem that exists among NFL players.:

This could be worse.

Report: Ray McDonald arrested for domestic violence
Posted by Mike Florio on August 31, 2014, 11:22 AM EDT

When it comes to the NFL’s new policy on domestic violence, many of the details won’t be known until a player or two (or more) end up caught in the gears of its application.

The first player to be caught in the gears of the application of the new domestic violence policy apparently will be 49ers defensive end Ray McDonald.

According to Damian Trujillo of NBC Bay Area, McDonald has been arrested for domestic violence.

Per Trujillo, the alleged victim is pregnant, which by the terms of the new policy could result in an eventual suspension beyond the first-offense baseline of six games.

Before the process reaches that point, the case against McDonald will have to develop. ESPN reported in the aftermath of the announcement of the new policy that an “offense” will arise only after final adjudication of the criminal case, which suggests that a civil settlement with the victim that results in no prosecution could help the player escape punishment.

Asked whether the “final adjudication” report from ESPN is accurate, NFL spokesman Greg Aiello told PFT, “We deal with the facts of each case at the appropriate time and make decisions on those case when the process is completed.”

The facts of the first case apparently will involve Ray McDonald, a key member of the San Francisco defense who became a full-time starter upon the arrival of coach Jim Harbaugh.

The fact that Harbaugh is McDonald’s coach could create a separate area of trouble for the player, based on this quote from former 49ers safety Donte Whitner: “He said that we can do anything in the world and we can come and talk to him and he’ll forgive us except put our hands on women. If you put your hand on a woman then you’re done in his book.”

So maybe, in the end, Harbaugh will be even harder on McDonald than the league office will be.

As an aside, it seems that this new policy will allow players to avoid suspension if someone is paid off or if there is a plea bargain. If so, that stinks!

All doubts now removed............nice going Goodell.

Video from inside elevator shows Ray Rice punching wife
Posted by Darin Gantt on September 8, 2014, 6:22 AM EDT

Some defenders of Ray Rice have been clinging to the fact that we hadn’t seen the video of what happened inside the Atlantic City casino elevator that precipitated his wife becoming unconscious, such that it mattered.

Now that we’ve seen it, nothing changes the fact his two-game suspension was so light that the league realized its tremendous error and changed the policy immediately.

TMZ has obtained the video from inside the elevator, and it shows what most expected.

Janay Rice and her now-husband were clearly having some degree of argument. She turned and appeared to be saying something, took a step his direction and he laid her out with a quick left to the face.

It certainly does not appear that she was about to inflict harm on him in the moments before she was knocked unconscious, and later dragged out of the elevator.

The visual is stark and troubling, and a chilling reminder of how egregious Roger Goodell’s initial mistake was.

HERE IS THE VIDEO

As reported by TMZ:
Inside the elevator it's apparent he strikes first ... she hits back ... and then Rice delivers the knockout blow.
The punch knocks Janay off her feet -- and she smashes her head on the elevator hand rail ... knocking her out cold. Ray doesn't seem phased ... and when the door opens, he drags her out into the hotel.

An employee of the hotel -- which just shut down for good -- tells TMZ Sports he was working there at the time and says the NFL saw the elevator footage before imposing the 2-game suspension.

We reached out to the NFL for comment several times -- so far, radio silence.

I'm sure the hotel employee is an accurate source...

Btw, I fully expected Rice to get 6 games, reduced to 4 upon appeal...

Leon Little killed a woman in a drunk driving case- what did he get? 8 games.

Blame the adjudicators not the defendant

The worst thing about the video is not the punch (which is pretty bad). It's the way Rice acts afterward. He clearly had no remorse and believed he did the right thing. He could not have cared less about her well being.

Really? the only think your drunk driving case has with this is that the victim is a woman... Really?

When you've got conclusive evidence such as this, it should be enough to kick him out of the league forever. What happened in that video is uncalled for.

& the kicker for me, is that the dizzy broad "forgave" him for the whole thing. The spitting in her face (twice), the uppercut, & the dragging her around like a piece of trash.

That's the only reason I can see Goodell not knowing what to do. It's his private life, & they've obviously got something strange going on that I don't want no part of.

Blame the adjudicators not the defendant

Yeah, because it's somebody else's fault that "Sugar" Ray Rice beats up women.

But in his defense, you can see how upset & concerned the tough guy is after the knockout. I'm sure it was the first time he'd hit a girl. :truck:

Ray Rice let his lawyer go on the radio and defame his wife like this. That's some shameful sh!t right there.

Rice’s attorney, Michael Diamondstein, ... would not say exactly what happened that night, but gave plenty of hypotheticals.

“This is just a complete hypothetical,” Diamondstein said. “Let’s assume, for the sake of argument, rather than enter into the pretrial diversionary program that he entered into, we hypothetically move forward on the case. Hypothetically, we litigate 100 motions, and the video comes out and the video shows - hypothetically speaking now, hypothetically speaking - shows that Ray wasn’t the first person that hit and Ray was getting repeatedly hit, but just Ray hit harder, fired one back and hit harder.

If Rice acted in a "OMG, I just knock out my wife, what have I done!" You know the kind of remorseful feeling a person get when a love one is hurt, maybe some sympathy and leniency is deserve. But this dude acted like her unconscious body was just a nuisance. "Lookit here, you asleep, now I got to drag your sorry ass out this elevator. I hope you grateful for this." What a travesty the NFL is.

Here is what will anger me. Most TV networks, if not all, will likely decide to not air this new video. They will say people shouldn't watch it.

I disagree. People should watch that, especially those in Baltimore that will have the chance to cheer for this person and buy jerseys donning his name and number. He will be a hero if he rushes for 200 yds and all will be forgotten, as excited boys tell their dads or moms they want to be just like him. This video should be shown over and ****ing over, so those dads and moms can tell that kid he can do much better than Rice.

I haven't been this pissed over someone getting to play their sport since Todd Bertuzzi broke Steve Moore's neck on the ice, and got to play the following year.

What a P.O.S. this guy is.. a complete P.O.S. Go F yourself you coward punk. I guess Watt should of said he eats ******* bigger than you, because that's exactly what you are... one giant P****. Real men don't hit women.

Screw waiting on the commish, if the Ravens don't sit his ass down I'll lose all respect for that ownership, coaching staff, and organization.

The guy needs to go, I'm sorry, but he does.

Terrance Knighton @MrKnighton2u
As players we always speak on how we are unfairly treated, well now what?

This video makes me sick to my stomach.

As players we must speak up. Stand up for what's right. I don't give a damn who u are or how much money you make. No place for this.

If there's anyway to open that case up and give this guy the punishment he deserves, it NEEDS to be done.

That man should be thrown out the the nfl and thrown into jail. Shame on those deciding his punishment. Smh

Shaun O'Hara ‏@ShaunOHara60
Watched Ray Rice Video. As a man I am disgusted. As former NFL player I am ashamed by handling of this by the league. Despicable.

Bart Hubbuch @HubbuchNYP
Also, the NFL league office has non-profit status with the federal government.

Just a reminder that Roger Goodell got $74 million in salary and bonuses the past two years to make decisions like this.

Even worse, the complete video, starting before they get in the elevator, shows Rice spitting in her face when she comes into the picture, then again in the elevator as she selects the floor. That's why she was "rushing" him the way she was.

Now... I remember when a football player spat in the face of another player, how, "You don't do that!!" that was. He did it to this woman twice, then used it as an excuse to lay her out.

Here is what will anger me. Most TV networks, if not all, will likely decide to not air this new video. They will say people shouldn't watch it.

I disagree. People should watch that, especially those in Baltimore that will have the chance to cheer for this person and buy jerseys donning his name and number.

I think more people should watch it because it happens all the time, then the woman, for whatever reason, ends up defending the P.O.S. <--- that is the real problem that I don't think is being addressed.

Had he been cut yet? The longer this goes the worse their organization looks. It's not a hard decision. Be human, not football oriented. Your own fan base will not be mad if you cut him. If anything they want it.

Not but latest reports are Baltimore will likely release him...which needs to be done in my opinion.

This is such a bad situation for both the NFL and Baltimore organization. I find it very hard to believe that the NFL could not get ahold of this tape, but yet TMZ could.

So, either the NFL saw the tape and is denying it. If it comes out later, that they did see the tape...then the owners really need to think about firing Goodell. If the NFL didn't see it, that is amazing. But reports also say that Ray Rice gave full details to the organization and the NFL about what happened. If Rice was truthful, then the NFL and Baltimore should be ashamed for retaining this player. If Rice lied about the details (assuming the NFL and Baltimore didn't see the tape), then Rice should be released and banned from the league.

All parties handled this so bad, and the hole is getting deep. There is no way to come out looking good for the NFL or Baltimore.

I haven't been this pissed over someone getting to play their sport since Todd Bertuzzi broke Steve Moore's neck on the ice, and got to play the following year.

I probably agree, but I have no idea who those people are. :kitten:

Oh my God, that was brutal. Rice is a scumbag. I am not blaming the woman, but how can she take a beating like that and stay with this animal? I pretty sure the answer is money so I hope she can afford a good cosmetic surgeon and dentist because chances are she's gonna need them in the future.

I cringe any time i see a woman get hit by a man like that......didn't even want to see the video but someone posted it in this thread & I saw the little clip of it accidentally...yeah, thanks to whatever a-hole did that...

This guy is absolutely done in this league......Its a shame too b/c not only was he pretty good, this was his 1st offense...of anything.

Not trying to defend Godell, but I think the way the NFL had handle this has a lot to do with Ray's wife. They figured, hey if she's so quick to forgiving him and also putting the blame on herself then maybe this man isn't such a bad case.

This guy is absolutely done in this league......

Oh, you're not familiar with people, huh? Well, be prepared to lose all faith in humanity then, because just as sure as the sun rises, Ray Rice is not done in the NFL. I'll be mildly surprised if the Ravens cut him, and then downright shocked if he's not playing in the NFL next season at the latest.

This gets 2 games, while pot gets a season.

F*** Goodell and F*** the league administration. Get your damn priorities straight. Kick this piece of turd out of the league.

"Talent over trouble" usually wins, but I don't think it will at his position. His position is already a devalued position and a position that has a short life shelf with a abundance of talent flooding the league year after year.

Since the position that he plays is so cheaply rated, I doubt a team wants to be "the team" that signed a P.O.S. woman beater. I mean, we're not talking about a dog fighting QB here. As bad as the dog fighting was, it wasn't KOing your woman in the middle of a elevator... and again we're talking about a RB, not a QB.

Ray Rice is done. What a idiot that guy is, I hope he doesn't piss away the fortune he's made.

An addendum to the Ray Rice coverage:

Earlier this summer a source I trusted told me he assumed the NFL had seen the damaging video that was released by TMZ on Monday morning of Rice slugging his then-fiancée, Janay Palmer, in an Atlantic City elevator. The source said league officials had to have seen it. This source has been impeccable, and I believed the information. So I wrote that the league had seen the tape. I should have called the NFL for a comment, a lapse in reporting on my part. The league says it has not seen the tape, and I cannot refute that with certainty. No one from the league has ever knocked down my report to me, and so I was surprised to see the claim today that league officials have not seen the tape.

I hope when this story is fully vetted, we all get the truth and nothing but the truth.

I don't for one second believe that.

Adam Schefter @AdamSchefter · 36s

Big news from @mortreport: Ray Rice released. Finished with Baltimore.

Nobody is going to pick him up.......he's too toxic.

Take the Maurice Clerrett route and be a public speaker somewhere and have your own E:30 special somewhere coward.

FWIW, I called the Texans and let them know how disgusted I was with the penalty handed down. Hope more follow suit.

Good on the Ravens for cutting him before any press conferences tonight.

At least one thing was done correctly in this whole nightmare.

I can't say for a fact, but I think Peter King was in incredibly invested in his source, and now that the video has shown his source to be either (a) lying or (b) unreliable.

He needs to sort that out for his own company, as his reputation is everything to him.

Schefter is pissed because he was lied to right to his face. I also think he has legit morals, and this has stunned and angered the living hell out of him.

These are guesses and need more, but I gotta cook dinner

Good on the Ravens? My guess is the Ravens knew all along and was hoping this would blow over. Knowing it wouldn't, they were forced to do what they should've done as soon as they found out, cut his sorry ass.

Lol they got caught so now they release him. POS needs to be slapped upside the head a few dozen times.

Meanwhile, somewhere in NY a dog killer is playing QB and earning millions.
