Texans' Fans @ Reliant show Their AZZs to the Nation with Reaction to Schaub's Injury

Texans left tackle Duane Brown said fans cheering Schaub’s injury was “disgusting.” Yates called the applause “disrespectful.” J.J. Watt said those who approved of Schaub’s pain are leading a backward life.

Reactions from Andre Johnson and Arian Foster were stronger.

“It’s bad when members of the other team are saying that’s messed up that (fans) would do something like that,” Johnson said. “It just shows no class. It wasn’t all the fans. But those are the same people that you’re out somewhere with your family and you tell them they can’t have an autograph right now, those are the same people that tell you you’re rude.
***
“That is just tasteless and tactless,” Foster said. “I was extremely heated at that. The fans can get emotional. That is just not how I was brought up. That is not the kind of man I am. I don’t care how you feel about a man. You don’t kick him when he is down.”

Talk about arena-league, redneck, classless behavior by a small group of jerks at the stadium yesterday. That was sorry !

I hate the fact that ANY fan would cheer for one of their OWN players getting hurt....But I understand....

Had Gary Kubiak had the balls to do what he should have done last week and pulled Matt Schaub, we are not talking about this. However, Gary Kubiak went with who he thought gave the Texans the best chance to win, fans thought he was wrong and expressed their displeasure of that decision in a very classless way.

Irony is, Kubiak and the fans BOTH got it wrong. Schaub nor Yates are the answer and we do not know about Keenum cause Kubiak will not let him play...

I do not agree with fans cheering any players injury. That being said....

I think the players who are speaking out like this have other things to worry about. I've seen articles saying they are embarrassed by the Houston fans. Well guess what - the Houston fans are embarrassed by the play you guys have shown on the field. It's embarrassing to see Foster jaw jacking with every guy who tackles him when they are getting hammered on the scoreboard. It's embarrassing to see the same stupid mistakes every week from a team that publicly called out the this being a Super Bowl or bust season. It's embarrassing to give your heart and soul to a team year in and year out, only to watch them go out and make the same stupid mistakes every week with no accountability or change of direction.

Again, I personally wouldn't cheer for a guys injury. But is the cheering of a frustrated fan that much different from the stupid personal foul penalty Duane Brown got last week, obviously the result of the frustration he felt from getting his ass handed to him on the field? The players need to realize that fans get emotional too. Not to mention the fact that the booing fans buy the tickets which pay their stupidly high salaries.

Classless, disgusting, stupid. There are lots of words that fit very well here for those that cheer an injured player.

But, it's a spectator sport and they paid their money for entrance so they can cheer or boo at their will. It's everyone's right to be an a$$hole if they so choose. I think it shows Houston in a bad light, and we are getting plenty of bad press on it.

In the end, while it's disrespectful and horrid, it's their right if they purchased a ticket.

Unfortunately, the entire fan base has now been labeled thanks to the ignorant behavior of the minority of fans who acted like jerks.

Are you just coping and pasting posts? Dont throw BUTS in there. From the talent we have on the team Gary did not get it wrong leaving Schaub in there but Yates certainly isnt the answer

In that stadium I really didn't hear much cheering when Schaub when down. It seems like I heard cheering when he got back up. I think the players know that most fans have enough respect to not cheer a injured player. I'm proud to say I didn't hear anyone around us cheering.

Yes I did, so what? Post applied to 2 threads....

Kubiak absolutely got it wrong, Kubiak has got it wrong for the last 8 years and yesterday was rock bottom. How many coaches in the NFL over the last 8 years have had a 3+ game losing streak each year they have coached? One of those coaches resides as the HC for the Houston Texans. Any other coach with any kind of testicular fortitude would have sat Matt Schaub after setting an NFL record for INTs for a TD and not started him yesterday.

BUT Texans do not have a coach with testicular fortitude, they have a coach with vajay-jay fortitude that doesn't know when to make changes, wither in personnel or scheme, and continues to show he is inept at being a head coach in he NFL...

Schaub was not the wrong call for yesterday's game. Type all the bs you want but there wasnt a better QB to put in

This is the mentality that got their asses kicked by New England twice last year. You are paid to perform, why care about the reactions of the fans?

Schaub was not the wrong call for yesterday's game. Type all the bs you want but there wasnt a better QB to put in

Then you are as delusional as the rest of the Houston Texans. That fat ass water jug with Gatorade on the side of it was a better QB to put in than Matt Schaub...

Kubiak refuses to let Keenum play, why? Is he that bad or will he make Kubiak look like an idiot for not playing him sooner. Can't say Kennum isn't a better option when that option has not been given the chance...

Until I see ALL the QB's given a legit chance in this offense, there are better options than Matt Schaub.

Because its rather disgusting when your fans cheer injury

True, but no more disgusting as the performance we have seen as fans from this so called professional football team week in and week out. No more disgusting that watching the same HC screw up week in and week out. No more disgusting than watching the same QB do the EXACT same mistakes week in and week out...

Like I said, I would never condone fans cheering for an injury, especially for their own team...

BUT I understand...

Schaub was not the wrong call for yesterday's game. Type all the bs you want but there wasnt a better QB to put in

And you know this how?

Trust in Gary all you want. But if winning a SB is your goal, then Gary shouldn't be your guy.

While celebrating his sack of Texans quarterback Matt Schaub on Sunday afternoon, Rams defensive lineman Chris Long was stunned to hear the Reliant Stadium crowd cheer.

Long could have expected such a roar at St. Louis’ Edward Jones Dome, but he found no place for such a reaction from the crowd of 71,104 at Schaub’s home stadium.

“We’re a fraternity out here as NFL players,” Long said after the 38-13 rout of the Texans. “It’s kind of a code of conduct for fans as well. Listen, I got up and celebrated. I had no idea Matt’s down. And I’m hearing cheering and look back and see him down on the field. I was hoping that wasn’t the case.”
***
“I know they’re going through some things down here, but I truly believe there’s not a place in football for that,” Bradford said. “When it comes to someone’s health, you never cheer when someone gets injured.”
***
“It’s disappointing in that Matt’s won a lot of games here,” Rams coach Jeff Fisher said. “The position that he plays in the National Football League is difficult to play at times. But he’s still an outstanding quarterback. … Matt’s a competitor, and he’s earned the right for people to respect him.”

And you know you've sunk to a new low when even the competition expresses disbelief at how the "home town" fans treat a fallen player. Truly disgraceful behavior !

Repped

Glad to see another one has come over to the darkside.

If you cheered because Schaub was injured then you are a pitiful human being.

If you cheered that Yates was coming in then I understand.

If you are a Houston Texans player then you need to worry about winning games rather than weighing in on a few classless fans. You just lost by 25 to the Rams. STFU!

All I hear is wah-wah-wah from the players. How about they go out and perform instead of crying about the fans. If the line would have blocked for schaub he wouldn't have got his leg bent like a pretzel. Do your freaking job!!!!

Cry me a river. KC fans did the same exact thing last season when Cassel was injured and then Eric Winston got to get on his soapbox. I don't think anyone thinks KC fans are a-holes anymore, they set the record for the loudest stadium yesterday.

This is the most intelligent post I've seen in years... talking about hitting hammer on the nail!

This is great the Texan fans who have showed blind loyalty for 12yrs of mediocrity get blamed for the incompetence of the employees on Kirby Dr.

Because he's the 3rd string QB and is terrible maybe?

TJ Yates has started some games and beat out Keenum for the job.

We need to get the VY and Keenum fanboys together so they can have a terrible QB slap flight.

There it is right there. Nobody knew if Schaub was badly injured. Only that he was down and was going to have to come out. Certain folks got excited about seeing a new QB in there and cheered. I would bet that 99/100 were cheering a new QB. Not cheering an injury which was not even obvious until well after those initial cheers. But I guess whatever sells newspapers is what you go with. Even John McClain on the radio and twitter is begging people to call in to his show about cheering Matt Schaub's injury because he knows it helps sell. That is pathetic too.

You cant say Case is a better option. The conspiracy theorist over Case are amusing. There is a reason he isnt starting and there is a reason he isnt number #2 and Id be willing to bet it has a hell of a lot more to do with his body of work on and off the field around the Texans staff

My 2 cents:

-Players need to pay attention to what's going on in the field and in their locker room. Way bigger problems there.

-Anyone that cheers an injury is an assclown. These players have families and lives outside the game.

-Applauding that the backup QB enters the game is fine; regardless if the starter got hurt.

No cheering someone getting hurt is much more disgusting that watching a game being played no matter the quality

If he is "terrible" then why is he even on the roster? And the idea that being 3rd string is a reason not to start a QB is ludicrous. There is this one guy named Tom Brady who started out as the 4th string QB. I CANT BELIEVE THEY GAVE THAT GUY A SHOT!

Well, when you have a stubborn coach that isn't willing to make changes and face reality, then it can be uplifting to see a situation that forces his hand. It's not so much about Schaub being hurt than it is about forcing change. Kubiak is content to run Matt out there every week until he's fired, no matter how bad he plays. The fans want change, and they got it, but at the very least, we know TJ isn't the answer. Now hopefully we will get to see if Case is.

How's that working for them now

So every third or fourth stringer has a legit shot at being Brady? Lets get real how many undrafted QBs have there been in the league and how many have gone on to have meaningful starting careers? He didnt go undrafted for no reason and he isnt sitting 3rd for some conspiracy theory either. Maybe he isnt terrible but not starter material either

If you believe Gary knows what he's doing, which I dont.

I'm not a Case jock sniffer, but the rest of this season should be about finding out if TJ/Case are the guy.

I see that "TexansFight" got his wish about wanting Texans fans to be more like Eagles fans.

Looks like it is official now. Anyone bringing in batteries to the next home game? Since it doesn't snow maybe chunk your snow cones at the players?

Thing is noone knows what he is or what he can be until he is given a real shot. Right now you are assuming he isnt starter material. But thats jusrt a guess, we atleast need to let him prove us right or wrong.

I find their performance on the field rather disgusting. Not that I'm condoning what happened yesterday, you can't keep hyping the same garbage product and expect folks to be satisfied with it.

What does cheering for an injury have to do with hyping the current product??

no fans know but you know people that work in the arena of professional football have a pretty good idea. Not every 3rd stringer gets a chance and there is a reason for that

their performance is irrelevant to cheering someone getting hurt, dont be satisfied with what you are watching thats fine

I never said "every third or fourth stringer has a legit shot at being Brady." Dont try and put words in my mouth. Try re-reading my response and the comments I was responding to.

It was freaking ice, oh lord i'm sure they are ok. I used to get crap and piss thrown on me daily at work for 24K a year, i'm sure these grown men will live through the trauma of having ice thrown at them. Might need some counciling or theorapy but i'm sure they can pull through :kitten:

Outside of Romo and Brady, pretty much every late-round/undrafted QB is where they are because they suck. Romo worked his way to the backup spot over a few years. So did Brady. They didn't get tossed the keys straight out of college after Bledsoe went down. Romo and Brady also had the tools to be NFL QBs one day. Keenum is a midget that put up great numbers in Conference USA over the 16 years he was at U of H.

If he played at Alcorn State in college, would there be clamoring for him to start? Nope. UH fanboys (they have fans?) are crying for Case because he's a hometown guy.

It was classless. Even our opponents think so...

Chris Long ‏@JOEL9ONE
If I had known Matt was hurt I wouldn't have even celebrated the play. Wishing him a speedy recovery.

If you were at Reliant stadium and cheered Matt's injury, you are a poor representation of your fan base and a bad example to young fans.

This city doesn't deserve a championship.

Now after saying all this and believing it... if Case Keenum comes out and plays great. At that point you will finally and truly understand that Gary Kubiak is a complete idiot. I hope Case somehow gets the chance.

based on what pre-season games? That is just assinine. No way you can say Keenum is terrible UNTIL he gets a legit shot at running this offense, until then Kubiak needs to input all variables into solving this equation at QB...

There are people on espn saying they should give Case a shot over Yates. It's not just people being homers logically in a situation of this type you need to see what all you have instead of having this pessimistic attitude that he isn't going to succeed when the guy hasn't been given the opportunity yet.

On TV you couldn't hear much cheering at all. I would venture to say the fans that were cheering, were doing so because Matt was leaving the game, not because he was hurt. I was happy to see the play happen, not because a human was in pain and suffering, but because it might give my team a better chance to win.

I don't want Matt or anyone else to be hurt, but hope he goes on season ending IR, just so we might have the chance to see what Case is capable of. You don't have to be classless, or cold-hearted to have cheered that he left the game yesterday. That is the way I see it, they were cheering that he was leaving, not that he was hurt.

As for the fans throwing ice, that's altogether stupid ...
