To be expected!

Kubiak is trying to see if he can trade Yates for a couple of seconds and a move up in the first round. :fostering:

I would cut sharpton ASAP. I just can't trust him to stay healthy. It's like a cruel joke at this point.

Reed said the injections he received in Vail take weeks to finish working. He said they'll be through the process by Monday. #Texans

Just like Watt still remembers the doubters from draft day, Ed Reed still has a USA Today story that said he was too small and slow. #Texans

Phillips gets asked about Cushing's rivalry with Watt. Reply: "Cush's got a rivalry with everybody." #Texans

I asked if Phillips is more inclined to listen to Reed's suggestions than other players. He said, Reed's are better. #Texans

Phillips says there have been a couple times that Ed Reed has made suggestions to the coaches and they've been good suggestions. #Texans

Phillips says Brian Cushing had his best practice today. He was surprised because he thought he'd be weighed down (by the money). #Texans

"I wouldn't have given him a shot early in the week. He's practiced more and more, feeling better. ...getting real close," Phillips #Texans

Wade Phillips was asked to compare Earl Campbell and Arian Foster. Says it's fun being on defense with both of them. #Texans

Oh also, Brennan Williams' microfracture surgery was on a different knee than his arthroscopic knee surgery earlier in the summer. #Texans

Keshawn Martin will return kicks and punts. Danieal Manning will, too, once Ed Reed gets healthy. #Texans

DeVier Posey will play a lot of special teams and have a play count. Kubiak says DeAndre Hopkins is in a catch-up period right now. #Texans

Kubiak said Sharpton is "in the middle" of the concussion protocol. Not at the end of it yet. Not sure what number exactly. #Texans

Kubiak says Joe Mays had a really good practice today. Says he'll only get better as time goes on b/c he's still learning #Texans' defense.

Kubiak calls Reed's progress exciting to see. #Texans

Ed Reed practiced more today than yesterday Gary Kubiak says. Says he thinks there's a shot for Monday. #Texans

Kubiak excused Myers from Dallas to be w/his son for his first surgery. Called to check in before and after. #Texans http://espn.go.com/blog/houston-tex...-in-a-smile-loaded-with-love-for-texans-myers …

Those Trench Life shirts Myers sold made $5,000 for Operation Smile , which helps children with clefts, during a 4-day presale. #Texans

Chris Myers' son Keane was born with bilateral clefts on his lip and palate. The family's journey with him: http://espn.go.com/blog/houston-tex...-in-a-smile-loaded-with-love-for-texans-myers … #Texans

"It's kind of 50/50 right now honestly. I couldn't say if I'm going to play or I'm not gonna play." - #Texans Safety Ed Reed

Ed Reed said he hasn't been out practicing with the 1's. said he did for a play or two and joked all the players were talking. #texans

Ed Reed said he's been asking Keo about the defense. Said that Keo should be playing on this team. #texans

Reed said the goal is to be on the field Feb 2nd. Not Monday. #texans

Ed Reed said he's day 2 day. Said hell be a game time decision. Added his injections take 2 weeks to wear off. That would be Monday.

"Ed really is on top of everything we do." - Phillips on how ready Reed is with secondary. #Texans

DeAndre Hopkins will make his first #NFL start Monday. Since 2006, 5 of #Texans 7 1st round picks started every game their rookie season.

In terms of when Manning starts returning kicks, Kubiak said it will be related to when Ed Reed returns. #Texans

"Everybody wants to be Deion Sanders on the football field who plays CB. No one is going to tell you any other name other than Deion Sanders or they're lying." - #Texans CB Johnanthan Joseph

I love reading that stuff. Think it's best #20 rests this week and play if only needed.............but then again I don't sleep in a Holiday Inn.

Im starting to think the opposite. I think Ed WILL play but wont start. Do it to play with Rivers mind. First or second 3rd and long and Wade sneaks him on to the field. Im still convinced the final decision is Ed's and not entirely Kubiaks.

He wants to be good to go in week 3 and wants to knock off the rust. I guarantee he watched that game last night and wants to show up the Ravens for letting him go. Pride can make a man do some funny things.

Found this quote from J Joe on Ed Reed...

“Obviously, he’s out for this game,” said cornerback Johnathan Joseph. “It’s not my call, but I just think right now I don’t think he’s going to play.”

Not sure how it was missed before.

Kubiak: ILB Darryl Sharpton practiced on the side field today but will not make the trip to SD.

Kubiak: Seems like we've been practicing a lot for this game. "Now we'll do some studying and get off our legs."

Kubiak: DeVier Posey will increase snaps on offense each week and take big part on special teams. @HoustonTexans

Kubiak: Shiloh Keo will start Monday night at SD. Ed Reed continues to be a game-time decision whether or not he plays.
Drew Dougherty ‏@DoughertyDrew
Kubiak Said LG Wade Smith practiced full-speed, will play Monday.
PDS ‏@PatDStat
Sharpton not making the trip mean more than likely Justin Tuggle will be active for Gameday. #Texans
Tania Ganguli ‏@taniaganguli
Didn't mention this earlier, but Kubiak seemed really impressed with Wade Smith's recovery after having knee surgery. #Texans

Guess it never really hit until I saw the Tweet. My heart just sank.

DOOMED!

I was crying about this in this very thread a few days ago, but nobody thought it was an issue.

Well... it is an issue, a big issue.

Shiloh Keo probably wouldn't make 20 NFL rosters and yet he's our starting Free Safety. I expect Gates to have a huge game because I'm pretty sure it's the FS's responsibility to cover the TEs that leak out.

I respect Wade because he obviously knows what's up, but is Keo really better than Swearinger? If he is, you gotta step your game up Swearinger!

I hate Shiloh Keo. With that said, nobody wants to hear my crying. Let's go Texans! Hopefully we put up so many points this is a moot point.

The thing to understand here is that unlike the pre Wade defenses, the roles of the safeties aren't as interchangeable as they used to be. Though we may show a lot of two deep looks, we rarely run two deep safeties (ala the Tampa 2).

Danieal Manning will play primarily man coverage on the TEs, Keo's job will be to roam deep & be that final line of defense... he's probably going to play that role better than Ed Reed as the old man doesn't have the range he used to have & he's not the tackler he used to be.

Swearinger is going to come in on Nickel & Dime packages, I think he's going to play that "smallish" LB that Quin used to play, leaving Manning to cover the TEs or play deep with Shilo.

Reed's value is his knack for making plays on the ball, for being in the right place at the right time. When QBs make mistakes & overthrow a ball, or lead a receiver a bit too much on the inside, they'll have to worry about Ed Reed fielding those balls..... they'll have to be that much better, that much more cautious. Maybe we'll get a few more turnovers than last year, maybe our OLBs will get that extra fraction of a second they need.

But to summarize, it has nothing to do with Keo playing better tha Dj. It's about wanting Dj to learn 1 position, & not 2. We expect Reed to eventually replace Keo.

Besides, can't be worse than Demps & whoever that other bump on a log was that came in on Dime packages. At least when Keo played, he didn't give up those big plays.

I feel you bro. Keo plays like Troy Polamalu's little sister. Big mistake starting him.

i'll be disappointed if our defensive front doesnt get more than 5 sacks. king dunlap and a rookie on the edges? the chargers' offensive line could be extremely ugly this season, and we should be the first to take advantage of all of the changes.

Keo looked better this pre season. I don't want him as a starter, but he did look more solid from what I saw.

We'll see.

"KO" Keo set to start in SD. I'm sure he's thrilled, he's come a long way from Moscow (Moscow, ID that is) where he played his college ball for the Vandals before he made enough of an impression on Wade Phillips in the Shrine East-West all star game to get drafted in the fifth round by the Texans.
I can remember reading that Keo's father wept uncontrollably back in 2011 when he heard his son Shiloh was drafted by an NFL team, so you think there's any chance Keo's dad and family in the Seattle area will be watching Monday night when Shiloh gets his first NFL start and it happens on MNF football ? Bet everything you've got and everything you will ever have that they will be glued to that tube at kickoff Monday.

You don't think they might head south and watch him in person? (Good tickets are still available from what I understand).

Something tells me if Keo got cut here, he wouldn't have much better luck.

Trust Wade. Maybe Wade thought he could make an NFL FS out of Keo given the time. Maybe he didn't see the same potential in Nolan. A better athlete.... yup, better instincts probably...... but a better football player? obviously not.

I can't wait for this game Tuesday morning.

I'm bugging the hell out over here waiting for the season to start.

:fans:

If the Texans don't DESTROY the Chargers, we are in for a long season.

How do we know the Chargers aren't going to go 10-6 this season, or 11-5? They'll most likely end up beating someone they're not supposed to this year.

I don't care if we beat them 6 to 3, as long as we win.

They were 7-9 last year. If that was us, we'd say a 3 game improvement should be an expectation.

New rookie HC, lost basically their entire LB core and secondary, as well as the majority of the DL and OL. Five of their WR's are injured or dinged up. Their current LB's are hurt, Freeney is trying to move to LB, the RB cant stay healthy and Rivers is coming off two bad years and at the end of his career.

I would say 7-9 this year is a pipe dream.

We'll see, I hope so.

I just hope that the Texans win it. Given the conditions if they win it easily I'll be happy. If they barely eek out a win I'll also be happy.

If they lose I will be dissappointed, but all is not lost..........yet.

The way things have gone today, I take nothing for granted.
- Brady BARELY got out of Buffalo with a win.
- Pittsburgh got beat by Tennessee - I sure as heck didn't see that coming.
- Oakland... pitiful a$$ Oakland damn near beat Indy... IN Indy!
- Seattle - darlings of many talking heads to be in the Super Bowl - barely beat lowly Carolina
- The Jets, after being behind all day long - steal a win from Tampa

It's been weird all day. So I'm with TK, if we win 2-0, I'm taking it.
