the wave

My point was to educate you about something you seem ignorant about, especially when you make the following statement:

And yet, there's our STARTING QB stating that it is an issue.

So when you suit up and lead an offense in the NFL, perhaps I will elevate your opinion to be equal to that of a professional QB.

Otherwise, you're just defending nonsense for some phantom reason(s).

You should call Schaub's radio show with your expert opinion and challenge him on it, since you seem incapable and/or unwilling to accept his wisdom as a starting QB in the NFL.

You see whining, and I see stupid is as stupid does.

And on my side, we have basic logic (i.e. be quiet for your offense, noisy for your defense), and years of NFL history, along with perspective from, you know, the guys that actually play the game.

On your side, we have drunk doofus starting a wave because he's not interested in the game anymore.

Even VY thinks this is goofy. :vincepalm:

Did you listen to the Schaub interview? I think it was you that posted so pardon me if that is a dumb question.

But my point, to me at least, Schaub kind of sounded ho hum "yeah, golly geeze we shouldn't be making noise on offense as we all know" kind of statement "or yeah we could have done without the noise". I don't recall the exact wording but he was nice about it. I bet if Matt was pressed he would agree that the lack of execution played just as big of a factor in the penalty, at least as much as the crowd did. But that point was never brought up.

It was Vandemeer right after that who said "and there you have it from Matt Schaub, don't make noise on offense". Vandemeer's tone was much stronger than Matt's.

Wow, namecalling DB, really? :vincepalm:

I did not call you a name. If my post was perceived that way, I apologize, as it was not my intent...unless, of course, you were the drunk doofus that started the wave to begin with. ;)

I'm neither ignorant or unaware of the situation. I was THERE. I was also THERE at the Raiders, Steelers and Cowboys games and the noise was LOUDER at all of them. Logic tells me that if the Offense could handle it in THOSE circumstances, then they should have been able to handle it on Sunday, period.

I neither started the wave, nor made any additional sound when it came round MY way. Wagging a finger at me is pointless. My logic says not to do it, I didn't. I still say it shouldn't have affected any NFL team. I'm not encouraging it to get any louder either.

As for calling Schaub's radio show, I'd love to, but the PANSIES at SR610 couldn't handle any tough callers, so they resorted to texts only from the "callers".

So, keep up the huge hue and cry over what amounts to less than spilt milk if it's what makes you happy. I'd prefer our team to do what happens when a call doesn't go their way.....Shut up and play.

It's not this specific incident, but rather the mentality of Houston football "fans". Yeah, this incident sparked the conversation, but it's bigger than this one thing. The fact that it's a wine and cheese crowd that can't be bothered to be there in full force at kickoffs. The fact that Steelers, Cowboys, and Titans fans show more passion at Reliant than Texans fans many times. It's the collective bag of sadness I'm talking about. Big picture stuff.

I know it just not in this city's DNA at the moment, but growing up in the Luv Ya Blue era and witnessing firsthand the House of Pain and the attitude of opposing teams about playing in Houston makes me want that for our city again.

So while I'm not whining about this incident - truly just yanking chains here - I'm just being an idealist in hoping that our fair city won't act like a bunch of ignoramuses if/when we host a playoff game.

Please forgive me for wanting something greater from a fanbase that is most likely incapable of living up to my idealistic hopes.

We like to puff our chests out as a "football town", but we truly are not. That's just the way it is right now. Consistent winning changes the atmosphere over time, but it's a long learning curve.

Yeah, Schaub politely answered a question asked of him. He did not invite the topic into the conversation and only reacted to the subject. Why so many "fans" are willing to call our starting QB a whiner and throw him under the proverbial bus is beyond my comprehension. But then again, this is a front runner city when it comes to our sports teams.

R you in your seat at kick-off?

Or are you wine-ing & cheeseing?

FYI, there are plenty of people in their seats for kick-off, maybe even the majority.

I've got to believe the fans will show up regularly when the team shows up regular.

Right now, what's going on in the parking-lot is more exciting than what's going on in reliant. What's going on in the club boxes is more entertaining than what's going on on the field... doing the wave was better use of our time than watching what was going on on the field.

That's fine, man. Whatever floats your boat. It just proves my point that this is not a true blood "football town". BTW, I'm not saying that as an insult, but just calling it like it is.

As for me, always 100% in my seat at kickoff when attending games. Usually there about 30 minutes before kickoff, to be honest.

I sat through every excruciating second of 2-14. The stadium would have less than 5000 in it at the end of some of those games, but we refused to leave until 0:00 was on the clock. I have no doubt that the parking lot was more exciting than most of those games. Heck, an empty parking lot was more entertaining than that year's team.

But I'm a football fan, not a party animal.

That doesn't make me a better or anything. It was just the principle of the matter, I suppose.

A poet amongst us.

If we're allowed to expand the subject a little, I'm sick of the "Army Strong" bits. Not that I don't support the troops. I do. I want them home. But what I don't like to see are these heros used as pitch men in paid infomercials. Yes, the Army pays the Texans for that spot.

Because of this, I won't stand up for these segments. I may look like an arse, but that's the way I feel. And I've looked around, and there are others who share my convictions. If the Texans would just recognize these veterans without the Army pitch, I'd be the first to stand and cheer. But for a commercial? No thanks.

so what time we doing this wave? after our first td? after kubiak fails on a challenge? after a rackers tackle? oh wait.... after kareem defends a pass downfield.

FYI, I'll be at the game on Sunday and I won't be doing the wave. Lead by example.

You sir are a sensible person. I think that's all we are looking for from fans attending the game. Do the wave when the defense is on the field or during half time. Obviously, most of the fans got caught up and it was herd behavior but hopefully fans will find other ways to have fun while attending a NFL game.

I am going to the Browns game but after this whole wave-gate scandal. I'm reconsidering my decision. If I do go then rest assured that I won't do the wave at all. I guess that when people entertain themselves people will find a problem with it.

When or what time during the game are we doin the wave this sunday? I stand all game due to the bullpen but am willing to throw my hands over my head for it

You know what I hate at the Texans games? The stupid pick the play of the game early in the 4th quarter. No matter if we are winning or losing or if the game is one the line. For some reason those really piss me off. I have hopes in most games that the play of the game hasn't already happened. And when we have had a stinker of a game, that promo just feels like fingernails on a chalkboard.

Granted... WOOOOOOOOOOOOO

I thought doing the wave was great as a kid and added... WOOOOOOOOO... fun to my game time experience, but now? Geez... WOOOOOOOOOOO... it gets a tad distracting and a little bit old when you have somebody... WOOOOOOOOOOO... sitting behind you going "C'mon Man, let's start the WAVE" and then acts like... WOOOOOOOOOOO... you're the jackass for thinking he's a jackass.

Why do you think an opposing... WOOOOOOOOOO... teams fan base gets loud when our offense come's on the field? It's bad enough to have them... WOOOOOOOOO... making noise, is there really a need for us to screw our own team over as well?

This is either the best post about the wave, or you were typing this while watching a NASCAR race. I can't tell which.

I don't find anything like that entertaining. Plus winning football isn't entertaining enough for me, I guess. If the Texans win 2-0 than that would be enough entertainment for you. That is a win. Unlike you, I'm not happy with just anything. The Texans may win games but it isn't winning football. There is ugly and there is lucky.

That is why I gave the link; lots of other stuff to choose from.

All you needed to say.

yep; would leave Reliant w a smile on my face

Unlike you, I'm not happy with just anything.
Yep we are unlike; you would rather be entertained and lose (and I will never understand that)

The Texans may win games but it isn't winning football.
That is just nonsense

There is ugly and there is lucky.
so now it's luck, :kubepalm:

I'm not having a pity party but I'm tired of these people's Holier Than Thou attitude? You really need to understand my post before you speak.

ya i wasnt able to comprehend the complex layers of your post

somebody who needs a wave to enjoy his nfl experience is obviously way too intellectual for me. WWWAAAAAAAHHHHHHAAAAAYYYYYYYY. fun fun.

i dont even know why im responding to you with the intellect you showed in your last post :mariopalm:

That bugs me for sure, as well as the weatherman talking about the drive home and saying "let's hear it for our texans" when we're getting blown out. :kubepalm:

Dude, really? REALLY?

Winning isn't everything; its the only thing. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Winning_isn't_everything;_it's_the_only_thing

You are new to be a Texans fan if you don't care about seeing wins. Did you just get off the Cowboys wagon? Any fan that has been watching this team for the last year and knows the history of this team doesn't care how this team wins - Just win baby.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8fy8t3HYZp4

I mean, if we are all just trying to be entertained, why keep score in the game? Or any game? Because its about winning.

So my recommendation to you is to close your account, open a new one, and start over. Its ok. I won't tell anyone.

There have been many times when this came on that I hoped the play of the game had not happened yet.

Lets all do the finger point of doom when we are on D kinda like what they do at duke during the basketball games

I never realized that the Army was paying for this. I always figured we were doing to (and the NFL as a whole) as a patriotic thing. Kinda cheapens the whole thing. And does the Army really need to advertise? We all know how great they are.

I'll still give them a standing o when they do the Army Strong thing, but it kinda cheapens it for me now.

yeah, once you learn that a seemingly sincere tribute is paid for by the people you are paying tribute to makes it just feel like any other commercial infomercial.

First of all, I'm not a Texans by no means and I would never claim to be one ever. I'm a Texans observer because I don't have a choice really considering that I live in a suburb of Houston. Secondly, due to the lack of televised games of soccer (though I have FSC) AFL and rugby in this country, I have to settle with watching the Texans and really paying attention more than I usually do (thanks to David Stern for this as well).

Now, let me cut to the chase. What the Texans did last Sunday was not winning football. If you play a team who is actually worth the checks they get than the Texans would lose. They were so lucky that the Jags offensive players are imbeciles. Winning football doesn't always equate to wins. All winning football means is you playing in the fashion that gives young solid chance for victory. Winning the game itself isn't a given. I've watched the Texans tank in the past couple of years and I sat back and laugh. That was entertaining to see a team throw a good start out the window. Now, by mean saying that people will assume I'm a Texans hater but they haven't even done anything to make me want to put an effort into hating them. I rather see them do well than do bad.

Yes, if I spent over 300 dollars in tickets (which I have). Does that mean I have to settle for a win as entertainment. I guess so but I will give Texans fans a pass considering that the team hasn't really gave the fanbase much to be happy about. Every time they win a riot ensues. I've seen ugly wins. Yeah, they won but I fell asleep due to the offensive incompetence. There's defensive forcing errors and unforced errors. They were plenty of both to go around last week. So yeah they won but I wasted 300 bucks but good thing I didn't need to scratch up every dime and nickel for that. Just go spend 400 bucks the next home game.

I mean, if we are all just trying to be entertained, why keep score in the game? Or any game? Because its about winning.

careful now, look at his username. he'd probably agree with you on that. im sure he loves watching arsenal playing pretty, entertaining (albeit losing) football/(soccer)... & im sure it eats him up that chelsea/utd play alot more 'boring' games and still coming out on top.

Now, let me cut to the chase. What the Texans did last Sunday was not winning football. If you play a team who is actually worth the checks they get than the Texans would lose.
It certainly wasn't losing football. The Jags are an NFL team with NFL talent. They just beat the Ratbirds. This isn't the NCAA's where you get style points for a victory. One point, fifty points...it doesn't matter and the players really don't give a crap. Some fans do though..obviously.

The Jags play some pretty good defense, they need a QB and some Wr's but they have just as much talent on that defense as we do on ours. I suggest you spend less on game tickets until you get a better grasp of the game if you felt that was a waste. In the NFL teams are too close in talent for the bad teams to just roll over when a good team comes in to their home. For instance in College, there is a massive talent gap between Rice and LSU, and LSU gets style points (BCS crapola) for beating teams with inferior talent 50-7. Perhaps NCAA football is what you need to spend your bucks on. Make sure you only attend games where one Big time program has a decisive talent advantage over a smaller University so that you may see a 50-7 game like you prefer. Otherwise its gonna be a waste of your time.

Heeeey!!! I refuse to be held responsible for what I do while drinking. :bat:

But seriously, who's the bigger doofus? The drunk guy who starts the wave or the 60 thousand that follow the drunk guys lead?

There would be a different feeling here had we lost the game. The raider game is the most recent example. There would be a hundred threads about the Texans playing for only one half, allowing a lesser team to come back in the second half, not putting their foot on the opponents throat, not finishing games

I'll say it again. It wasn't that the 60,000 didn't know any better. They were disenchanted with the offense.

you're not exactly going out on a limb saying there'd be venting threads after a loss..there always is

but il say it again too- the only way we were going to lose that game was turnovers....which had only happened by throwing it up to that point of when the wave started. how is putting the ball in our best players hands and playing to the strength of our offence to decide the game bad offence? i think how the game ended vindicated the decision also si ya i would say it was because the 60k didnt know better

how about this: There would be a different feeling here had we lost the game through interceptions etc. at least it wouldve been entertaining enough for you though

It would have been more of the same.

This offense needs to get clicking... don't need to be blaming the Wave, they've been together for 3 years but are behind development when compared to the defense.

They've had 8 games to get it together, sure Andre is out, but you've still got three probowlers on offense. All skill players & an offensive guru pulling the strings.

The offense should be playing better, period.

Of course they advertise. And their advertising isn't aimed toward the type of kid who's already going to college or is in college. It's "hey you young person watching sports who has no idea what to do with his life. you can make something of yourself by joining the army."
