An e-mail from a former NFL icon

gary

Hall of Fame
I can't believe it. I received an e-mail from an NFL icon. I took a picture with him and asked if I could put it on my website. He just went to my site and said he would be honored to be on the website and he will even try to come to an event. I will name him when I have my site redone and post the picture. If I can get an event and get him and Eric together that would be unbelievable.:hurrah:

Details, Gary. A very important detail starting with... who?

EDIT: nevermind. You said you'd name him later.

I exspect a mixed reaction when I let the cat out of the bag.

I'm going with Tracy McGrady.

The mixed reaction will come from those who say... he played football? Huh? Yeah. YEAH! That's why he's so injured! He plays FOOTBALL!

*snickers*

Sorry, I would not call him HOF class he played back in the 70d's but I don't think it gets this good. Very well known though to any Houston sports fan.

Frank Bush!

Or Tony Zendejas...

Earl Campbell the most loved Sports Icon of Houston

What did I win what did I win

Dang it Joe!! You beat me to it!! Earls the only ICON I know of, other than that big tall basketball player whose name I can't spell, and to lazy to look up. Oligawon, hehe, something like that! Maybe Bagwell???

ICON is a very meaningful word Gary. Very few meet the criteria to be called one.

Man, does that name bring back memories!!!! One of the FEW times I've ever been drunk was at his club Diamondback!! I swear to this day that someone slipped something into my Tejuila sunrise. Took me three days to recover, from ONE drink!! Ended up in the backend of a strangers pickup truck, which I initiated real well! Awwww the memories of the good OLD days!!:)

Well, if it's not Earl, then the pickings are few. Not to many true ICONS out there. Think I'll have to go with BUM PHILLIPS!!!!

Plenty of non-HOF Houston Oiler icons for me. Dr. Doom Robert Brazile. Al Smith never got the pub he deserved but was a stud. Don't forget about Bruce Mathews, Mike Munchak, and Dean Steinkuhler. There was Carl Mauck. We know it can't be (RIP) Greg Bingham. What about Curtis Duncan, Ernest Givens, Drew Hill or Haywood? Elvin Bethea, Curly Culp??... Dang I could go all night.. :D

so what we know is:

1)It is an oiler
2)not a hall of famer
3)from the 70's
4)Houstonians might have mixed feelings

Hell, I'd add Rob Carpenter, Giff Nielson and especially Vernon Perry for that unlikely win in San Diego, playing without Earl, Pastorini or Kenny Burrough!

John Matuszak is my hero. Curley Culp is the greatest athlete to ever don the jersey #61 although he tore up the NFL wearing #74.

Hmmm... time for a new thread...
