Palmer "not pleased" with stalled Carr

LOL GP finally came around however I remember us going at it a few times in Carr threads. Of course I was a "hater".

But hey, I am no better. I thought the Texans should have dumped him and had a sausage party errr drafted Vince Young. (I was right about Reggie Bush though!)

I know gr8fan doesn't post anymore however he never liked Carr. To his credit he was saying Carr wouldn't pan out either in the first or second season. He kept saying that Carr was sacking himself and the O line was getting a bad rap. I didn't see the light until the 2004 season.

Don't feel bad. First part of the 05 season for me, but I was never a blind homer for the dude. I suppose I just kept hoping he'd turn out to be what we needed. I got fed up with the running out of bounds behind the LOS. God that used to piss me off to no end.

I always thought he was kind of fairy-ish

Hell, I compared him to Rob Johnson in 2003 and it turned me into Vinny the message board villain till about the time you figured it out. :pirate:

Ha, I'm not sure what the heck took me so long. Maybe I was so giddy about getting football back in town that my knowledge of football took the back seat. Trust me, every time I think of the times I defended that pansy to my brother I want to kick my own ass.

I forget who originally posted this, but props.

I was new to the board when I tried to point out that not all of the sacks were due to the line. That was back in the time when everyone KNEW the line sucked and Carr was the star of the show, so I didn't gain much credibility.

Ol' Dave was very popular on the board then, although it seems now he never had more than a few supporters at the peak of his popularity...

I think, including the infamous 20/20 hindsight, that we all agree that DC sucked and is not a solid back-up. I just can't help remember how many of you who were ECSTATIC when we drafted Carr. It's harder to get a good steak in Bombay, than to bring out all the original D.C. lovers.

I gave up on Carr in 2005. I had pretty much decided he was mediocre on a good day at that point, but Caper's last year I decided that DC actually destroys the team he is on. I was one of the numbskulls that wanted Young.

What I find interesting here is how Chris Palmer continues to throw good career money after bad with Carr. Thanks to Carr (and Tim Couch), Palmer went from being "the next great coach" to a mere position coach in under ten years. Yet he's still trying to make the guy into something; I guess we should at least admire his persistance.

When the new Brownies hired Palmer in 1998/99, he was the hot coordinator in the business after having taken Drew Bledsoe to the Super Bowl and had the Brunell/Jimmy Smith Jags knocking at the door. They draft Tim Couch and then proceed to go 5-27 his two years there. So then we hire him as coordinator and saddle him with David Carr until Carr finally gets him fired during the 2005 season.

He didn't get another job until his old Patriots boss, Parcells, hires him to coach the QBs at Dallas. That was the year Tony Romo emerged (ending with his botched FG hold in Seattle). He then hired on with his other notable ex-boss, Tom Coughlin, with the Giants, but still as position coach. In that first year, the Giants win the Super Bowl with Eli looking better than he ever looked before. And how does Palmer spend his new-found capital that comes with winning the Super Bowl? By bringing Carr to Gotham. Yikes.

Those naked pictures Carr has of him must be something else. There is no other reason I can think of why Palmer is still pinning his reputation on the guy who basically killed (again, with Couch's help) his head-coach/offensive-coordinator career.

Palmer also coached Rob Johnson twice too. I think he is smitten for QB's with physical tools, but no ability to use them. It's gotta be a rare, rare fetish.

He's like someone with a fetish for young hot dumb partners that can't stay faithful.

"I can change them." "They've got a good heart." "At least they are trying."

"Gee, why do all my relationships end in shambles?"

I wanted to give Carr one full year under Kubes. Well that ended about halfway through that season when I saw (I think it was) AJ beat his man badly going deep. The pocket was closing in on Carr and all he had to do was step up into it and throw. Alas, he went into the fetal position rather than stepping up. I threw my beer at my TV, but went Vince Young and missed it.

Yea when they went to the "David just throw it to the first guy you see as soon as possible. For god's sake don't throw it further than five yards or hold on to the ball for more than three seconds" strategy, I knew for certain he was kaput.

Yup.. That's when you knew Kubiak had no faith in him whatsoever.

Like VY ... you should have ran to the TV and dumped that beer on it . It's all in the legs dude .:jogger:

I think Kubiak knew after about, oh....... one game. He probably thought to himself, "WTF did I get myself into? :gun:"

In the Vinsanity game , after the Titans tied it with 52 seconds left , Kubiak supposedly asked Carr what he wanted to do . Carr responded with that classic battle cry of ... I don't know , your the coach . That IMO , was the last straw .

They figured it out in half a season . John Fox wouldn't start him for a home game because they were afraid of the fans booing him . Then along came Vinny , who started after two practices .

And all of a sudden the Panthers went from having one of the best O lines in the league, to not having anyone that could block..... It's like Houdini showed up and made the OL disappear. :voodoo:

I came here for the first time just to say Carr sucked and that he didn't practice hard, etc and summarily got like 5 neg reps and people telling me my info was off.

Here they were..

LOL..sorry. I'm new as of yesterday and really grew up a Cowboy fan(don't throw rocks). I've lived here since 1993 though and would love to see the Texans get better for the city. From an outsider looking in I think the fans are way too forgiving and think good guy equals winner. Carr, from what I read, never stays late to look at film and is pretty much worried about his TV appearances and his hair. He claims the film is because he puts a premium on his family. Well sometimes you need to sacrifice. Alot of people do.

I never even came here before the end of this season and I didn't start changing on Carr until this year. We all have opinions and I for one think he lacks leadership skills, makes dumb mistakes and then watches his line take all the heat, and pretty much is not going to be a franchise QB. He has rocks for brains and I don't see him taking any team to a SB. Maybe he can take HEB or SportsCut there.

I did pretty much the same thing. A little less than halfway through that season, I was in the Anybody But Carr group.
