This is something fun and I know its not going to happen...just want to hear everyones opinion.

Ok, Your 3rd round draft pick this season, and these quarterbacks, all will be rookies, and all will play out to how they actually did in the nfl. Who do you want for the Texans and why?

    Jeff Garcia
    Drew Bledsoe
    Chad Pennington
    Byron Leftwich
    Rex Grossman
    Alex Smith
    JP Lossman
    Chris Simms
    Ben Roethlisberger

If I understand your question correctly, the no brainer would be Rothlisberger, because he brought his winning tradition to Pittsburgh. He was 11-1 as a rookie, and won a superbowl his second..... if he could have accomplished that with the talent we had our first two seasons..... that would be nice.

That aside, of the QBs you have listed, I like Pennington the most. I think he understands the game better than all the others on the list. with the protection our OL provided the first 3 seasons... Chad would have definitely ruined his shoulder a few times..... But like I said, I think he's the most football savvy of the bunch, and he's a gamer. He's out there to win, and he leaves nothing on the field.

That's the kind of QB I would want to run routes for, block for, the kind of guy I'd want to do my best for.

Jeff Garcia no question. He made like 3 Pro Bowls and look what he did with the Eagles this year.

Gotta go with Alex Smith mainly because he's young and has plenty of potential. All of the other quarterbacks have either been shown to be average or are on the downside of their careers. Garcia had a great year this season, but can he repeat that at 36? Roethlisberger is a huge question mark after this last losing season. Pennington is one more shoulder injury away from being out of the game period. None of the others are worth mentioning.

Not sure if I quite understand your question correctly, but the way I see it I would definitely have to go with Alex Smith, without a doubt. This dude can be a franchise quarterback if surrounded by the right supporting cast. I'm not completely sure on the question though, so if you could verify that would be great.

Alex Smith w'out a doubt. Look at how Vernon Davis gave him a weapon n' kept opposing defenses off o Smith. With time to throw n' a target or 2 at his disposal, Smith will win a SB I would think...

Alex Smith. One season of junk. The team had no one to help him until they realized what they had in Gore. Gave him a solid TE in the draft and he matured exponentially. SF is in the playoffs next year and a virtual lock for division champs. Seattle was hardly convincing this year.

Yeah after thinking about it I narrowed it down to Garcia and Smith. I would say Pennington but his injuries and all make it hard for him to be reliable. I feel as if the 49ers offense is a lot less talented than ours, but, Smith is a good quarterback and makes a lot of people better. Much props to him for what he did this year, that was a great improvement, it really was. If they get a big time receiver in the draft, we will see them as a wildcard next season, and challenging the seahawks for the nfc west.

Garcia however, has had a lot of good seasons under him. He had just as much success in san fran as montana and young stat wise, just he didn't get a superbowl. He is always fired up and plays with his heart.

So I think at this point I would say bringing in Garcia (remember, they are all rookies... this is just for fun) because we know more about what he will turn out like. But Smith wouldn't be bad either.

It's a toss up between Alex Smith and Pennington for me. Roethlisberger is overrated, half the guys on that list are past their glory days and a couple would do a lot worse than David ever dreamed.

Haha, someone said Sage, I was expecting that. I guess you would want Chris Simms to be the starter then, huh?

I'd have to say Roethlisberger, but not for the reasons people above are saying. He didn't go 11-1 in his rookie season - he played on a team that went 11-1 and he managed the games effectively. Putting him on the Texans would be a very large dose of comeuppance to the Big Ben fanboys. However, Ben has good size and mobility and a knack for making plays out of the pocket. Since the line here sucks, has sucked, and probably will continue to suck, Ben probably would have the best chance to succeed of those listed. A young Garcia would be my second choice, I think. It's no surprise that Garcia has played well when he's on good teams and played poorly when he's on bad teams, though.

Bottom line - if you can't keep your QB clean, it doesn't much matter who you put back there. It's really Football 101 and it is amazing how many posters on this board don't get it.
