Wolf6151 Final Mock of 2017...

Wolf6151

All Pro
I used CBS ranking system. Though I don't agree with some of their prospect rankings, overall they're pretty good.

1. Patrick Mahomes-QB, I know this is a risky pick, but all 1st round QB's are, this guy has the physical tools for success and I'm hoping the Texans give him at least a year to learn and mature before being the possible starter in 2018. Hopefully Savage plays great and makes the decision to extend him a difficult one so that we have a 2018 QB battle on our hands. If not then Mahomes has good size, strong arm, athleticism, and running ability. http://www.nfl.com/draft/2017/profiles/patrick-mahomes?id=2558125

2. Dion Dawkins-OT, CBS and others have him listed as an OG and a 2nd round prospect, but I love this guys text book positional size and arm length. I think he'll be great at RT and eventually move to LT in a couple years. This pick might take some luck, so I see Taylor Moton as a backup pick if Dawkins is off the board. http://www.nfl.com/draft/2017/profiles/dion-dawkins?id=2557875

3. Daeshon Hall-OLB, I really hope Clowney has a great year in 2017 at either DE or OLB, but if so I think the Texans will look to trade him at this time next year. Hall will be the replacement a year early. I'd like to see him lose a little weight and add some speed but that will come with an NFL level S&C program. He's got great positional size, lengthy player with long arms (former basketball player). http://www.nfl.com/draft/2017/profiles/daeshon-hall?id=2557842

4. Donta Foreman-RB, listed as a 4th round prospect but I think getting him here will take some luck. He's got great size and speed, but the knock on him that I read is his blitz recognition and pass protection. They say a QB's best friend is a strong O-line and a good running game. With Miller and Foreman, and Dawkins and Eluemunor strengthening the O-line we should have a good run game. http://www.nfl.com/draft/2017/profiles/donta-foreman?id=2557994

4b. Jermaine Eluemunor-OT/OG, big wide and strong utility O-lineman that will probably take Aboushi's spot on the roster after we foolishly let him go in FA. Listed as a 5th round prospect by CBS. http://www.nfl.com/draft/2017/profiles/jermaine-eluemunor?id=2558257

5. Josh Harvey-Clemons-SS, can you tell that I like the long lengthy basketball type players that offer great athleticism. I really want one of those SS/LB tweeners that can play the run and fill the middle of the field in pass coverage responsibilities. NFL compared him to Kam Chancellor. I know about the weed issues but that's why you take risks in the later rounds and not early in the draft. Low risk, potentially high reward prospect. http://www.nfl.com/draft/2017/profiles/josh-harvey-clemons?id=2557880

7. Josh Tupou-NT, doesn't offer much in pass rush ability unless he can collapse the pocket, but he's big as a house, and should be able to eat up blockers freeing others to make plays and rotate with Reader at NT. http://www.nfl.com/draft/2017/profiles/josh-tupou?id=2557956

I was going to mock the Texans draft using CBS. I doubt it would be much different from yours, so why bother?

D'Onta Foreman will be long gone...probably at some point in RD2. Like Jimmy Johnson said, "you can't teach speed!". Foreman's short comings in pass protection, ball protection and as a receiver can be coached up....but carrying his size (6-0 @ 234 lbs) to a 4.4-40, that will be good enough for most franchises to say, we can improve the rest of this package.

If this is the guy for the Texans, you're probably looking at trading back to an early RD2 pick to get him.

If he's gone, Samaje Perine, Oklahoma should be there in RD3. He does everything good but does the 40 in 4.6. I'd still take him since he could be a very nice compliment RB to Miller.

If he's gone, the next best RB who checks all the boxes but comes in at a 4.6-40 is Brian Hill, Wyoming. Hill could probably be had in RD4.

I agree Foreman in the 4th isn't likely, it's one of the CBS rankings that I don't really agree with. But this is a deep class for RB's, and RB's fall on draft day they're not valued as highly as they once were in the NFL so it's possible.

I would love it if we drafted him. Nothing helps a young inexperienced QB more than a good running game. He would be a great contrast to Miller. IMO we really need a power runner that can keep drives going and run out the clock and allow our defense to rest. These type of backs may be falling out of favor but their impact on the game is still important and even more so if you don't have a "Brady" for QB.

We could land those first two and do armpit farts for the remaining selections and I'd call this draft a raging success, but I have little to no confidence at this point that Dawkins sees his way to pick 57.

I just noticed that CBS has Dawkins back on the OT list and not on the OG list any more. He's listed at #56 overall. I think he's an upper 2nd round prospect, that's why I also listed Taylor Moton as a backup plan if Dawkins is off the board. I wouldn't be upset with Roderick Johnson either at #57, and wouldn't be surprised to see Ramczyk fall into the 2nd round due to health issues. Those same health issues scare me away from Ramczyk as well.

just a reminder that prior to combine Foreman was at 249 dropping to reasonable 233. IIRC, he did not run at combine due to newly discovered stress fracture. 2015 he missed last two games with wrist injury. In 2016 he left versus OK St with non-defined abdominal injury.
