    Why is this thread necessary?

IMO these type of gloating threads should be locked. This is a Texan fan site not a R. Bush only BBS.

I look at it as news since it is from the Chronicle. If you take it as gloating, I do apologize.

This is the draft forum. Bush will be drafted tomorrow. Do you want the Vince Young threads locked too?

Is that why Deon Sanders, Dan Reeves, Michael Irvin, and plenty others want Young?

Every Texans fan calls Michael Irvin a coke-smoking idiot. But the second he says we should take Vince Young, he is a Genius? This wasn't intended to be another Vince vs. Reggie thread. Remember, it is Reggie vs. Mario now.

I won't apologize. For what should I apologize. I think we landed the BPA. We suffered through 2-14 to get him.

Like anybody will ever confuse the Texans with the Yankees or give a rats *** about the Texans because Reggie Bush is on the team. People outside of Texas will not be attending Texan's games or listening on the radio or TV or buying Texans' gear. Not as many people in Texas will be either after this mind bending screw up. The only reason RB surveys better is because ESPN hyped him far beyond his abilities. The Texans buying into the hype is folly beyond description.

The Texans are spending $50MM+ on a running back who has no proven ability to run between the tackles at the college level behind a great o-line and putting him behind a sorry o-line with a QB who is an underachieving, overpaid, slacker head case who couldn't lead a horse to water! Somehow adding RB and an unproven head coach and picking up a few overpaid free agents at the end of their careers is suppose to make the Texans into winners overnight! You couldn't write fiction this bad and yet these guys think they are brilliant marketing and talent evaluators who aspire to be the Yankees!

By contrast, VY is a proven championship leader and a great athletic talent with an almost supernatural ability to lift entire organizations and fan bases to the highest level. He will be winning championships somewhere else while the Texans wallow in mediocrity and RB will fade from the scene as fast as he appeared. Running backs have short careers, they are more injury prone and they do not lead teams to championships.

The extreme odds are that the Texans will never win the super bowl with this decision so it is a lose lose proposition that will haunt the decision makers and Houston fans for eternity. At least by taking VY they would have improved their odds of reaching the highest level and won the hearts and minds of countless new fans. The Oilers never won a championship, but they won the hearts of Houston for a time the moment they took Earl Campbell. You do not increase the value of your franchise or win the hearts of your fans by pissing on their dreams. Bob McNair has no heart.

Lopez marketing argument is poor. The data he cites isn't relevant, as Bush playing in La, for USC, with ESPN behind him has largely influenced his profile. When he's roughing it out in Houston, only results will matter. That's why Peyton gets his loot. Furthermore, the example of the Cowboys shows that consistent success and occasional dominance build the type of fanbase the Texans covet. Emmit, Michael, and Troy weren't all that marketable or exciting, but they won. We should take the player that makes the team win.

One question for you TexasDieHard - Can you for at least a moment even pathom the possibility that VY isn't really football Jeses? Can you imagine a scenario where he does not become the "once in a lifetime" you think he is? If you can bring yourself to imagine, then what happens it turns out that way. Will it all be ok because he's from UT and Houston. That's not good enough. And the Oilers took Earl because he was the best player for them. Had he not been the great player and they won alot of games. Had he turned out to be so great, being from UT and Tyler would be an irrelevant footnote. You talk about McNair not having heart. Please, the easy desicion would be to play to the mob and let them dictate who you should pick. As long as the fans get what they want the way they want it then that's all that matters. WRONG. You have no objectivity.

Exactly. Let's take a player because they have endorsements? Foolish logic.
