Texans are on the cusp of one of their best seasons. They now have a good QB, which many thought was their biggest holdback from greatness.
It has taken a little while for things to gel but it looks like it is starting to happen.
The team is not perfect, but it does have many positives.
However, the league is a minefield of strong teams all vying for the big dance. Now is the time when the men are separated from the boys. I make no apologies for the cliches as they ring true here for if the Texans want to be serious contenders, they are going to have to lift their game to the next level.
Just take a look at the teams that are considered contenders this season: Rams, Saints, Chiefs, Patriots, Steelers, (Texans,) Ravens, Chargers, Seahawks and Bears - that's some list.
So far, Texans have had a fairly soft schedule but in a month's time it will suddenly go up another notch.
I would like to see the Texans change it up a gear and show us some December football starting with the Colts to get us fans pumped for the upcoming postseason and to get themselves ready for the onslaught that is to come.
Do you think they have it in them?
What do they lack and what do you think their realistic chances are?
Do you have a prediction for the rest of this season and the playoffs?

In this 9 game win streak they have played six teams that are currently .500 or better. And played a Browns team that has done a 180 since firing Hue Jackson.

Look at SOS and SOV. Texans have the second best SOS among AFC playoff teams should the season end this week, and the second best SOV among all playoff contenders should the season end this week.

They have a better SOS and SOV than the Chiefs, Steelers, Chargers and Ravens. The Patriots are the only current AFC playoff team with higher percentages.

    AFC East - 22 wins
AFC North - 24 wins (assumes Steelers win tonight)
    AFC South - 25 wins
    AFC West - 26 wins

    NFC East - 22 wins
    NFC North - 22 wins
    NFC South - 25 wins
    NFC West - 22 wins

Only the AFC West has more wins through week 12 than the AFC South.

This whole “Texans have a soft schedule” is a bit of a myth. In my opinion.

Don't get your hopes sett too high because we are likley atleast a year away from being a legit contender because of the limitations currently imposed by a sub par offensive line.

This is true, but I also don't think there's a team in the NFL that would want us on their schedule right now.

Side question. How is it Vrabel leaves and suddenly the team can tackle?

I too think we're realistically one good off season from being a real contender. However, if the seeding go in our favor and we avoid the Patriots in the post season, I think we have a punchers chance of getting to the big game. Patriots own us in the post-season, but alternatives look potentially beatable.

Is it possible the #'s are skewed by the 'bad teams' we've beaten having better records than these other team's 'bad teams' opponents?

Your stats aren't quite as encouraging (to me) when you look at the better teams that have been played by the teams you mentioned (below). I would argue that the Steelers are the only ones that might have a softer schedule than us vs playoff caliber teams.

    Chiefs: Chargers (W), Steelers (W), Pats (L), Rams (L)
    Steelers: Chiefs (L), Ravens(L), Ravens (W), Chargers (L)
    Chargers: Chiefs (L), Rams (L), Seattle (W), Steelers (W)
    Pats: Texans (W), Chiefs (W), Bears (W), Vikings (W)
    Texans: Patriots (L), Cowboys (W), Washington (W)

I get what you're saying -- I set my hopes on next year before the year started but I don't think we should rule out W making things happen with his legs in the playoffs. By the time this OL gets fixed, we'll have something else to be concerned about. We're good enough this year to have a shot so I plan on enjoying the ride.

There have been teams who won it all with worse lines.

This team is a contender right now. They have stepped their game up big since starting the season 0-3. Yes in the beginning of this winning streak, we won some sloppy games. But as you can see we have improved since then. If we continue to win out, we will be going into the playoffs hot and full of momentum.

    Let's go Texans

    Agree.
It is almost impossible to go into Foxboro and take the AFC C'ship from them there.
Texans have to find a way to win out and hope that the Pats lose one game and make their asses come here.
If we can get to the big dance, then anything is possible, but the underlined portion is key - not just for the reason already outlined but also because it will have the Texans in that winning frame of mind.

It’s ok to set your hopes high, but keep the expectations to reality. I hope they win the SB, but I expect them to be a 2nd or 3rd round exit.

Every team in the NFL is sub par in some aspect of their team. It’s up to the coaches to minimize those weaknesses, while taking advantage of our strengths. BOB has been doing a better job of that since the start of the season.

According to DVOA, the Chiefs have the worst DLine in the league. So are they thinking they’re also limited by their horrendous DL and probably one season away?

thats also a false narrative being pushed by the 'LT at all costs' draftniks.

If you break down film and delve into the numbers you would see a unit that has come together. While not a strength of the team, they are far from the disaster they were to start the season. Davenport is the weakest link on that chain, but when the Texans chip and help him he can hold his own. Its up to the coaching to staff to understand down and distance tendency and knowing when to help on obvious passing downs or keeping the defense off balance with a good game plan. Houston can win this year as assembled.
