My real hope is Spencer is ready for camp 100% but you can't be sure on his being back from such a bad injury. So I voted Williams IMO you just can't have to many O-linemen and with the injury bug we seem to have at that position the more we have the better off Gibbs and his system will be. To be honest I'd have rather have B.Albert (G/T from UVA) Most mocks have Albert at 23 to Pittsburg so I dont think us taking him at 18 is that much of a reach. The other thing to keep in mind is Albert has been playing in the WCS that Al Groh teachs and Matt learned while QB at UVA so Albert might be a little ahead of any other O-linemen we could draft.

    So my O-line:(if spencer returns)
    RT-Winston
    RG-Albert
    C-Myers
    LG-Pitts
    LT-Spencer

I think Albert would be the better pick also.

    i went with Williams because
    1. our o-line is a bigger need right now than the pass rush
    and
    2. two first round Williams in three years that anchor both of the lines would be pretty bad ass

however Albert is versitile and can fill in if Spencer if he isn't there or if they move him inside or move in and take over the RG spot and will always be able to contribute.

from what kubiak has said, i think its pretty certain that spencer wont play LT for us... they're looking at him as a possible RG candidate

Given this board, I'd like to see us go with one of the CB (Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, Aqib Talib). However, given that Williams has all the tools to be a LT, it wouldn't be a bad choice.

While Harvey would finish off our DL very nicely, we've got a chance to select a prototypical LT for the ZBS that could help take this offense to the next level. Let's quit putting a bandaid on it & fix the OL once & for all.

I voted Chris Williams- if he's the prototypical LT in our ZBS, I take him over just about any other player. I too really like Branden Albert and would really support that pick for either G or LT. But whomever Kubiak/Gibbs and Smith like for our OL, I'm on board.

Also, I'm assuming you forgot about Glenn Dorsey or are you projecting his "injury" to scare a lot of teams?

I think the Texans would run to the podium with "Chris Williams, Offensive Tackle, Vanderbilt" on the card.

I also think your scenario is very unlikely.

me too.. it was more of a 'who do you prefer' question

i thought it would be alot closer with harvey winning in the end due to the fact we have alot better chance of picking up a good LT in the 3rd rd than a DE

Have to disagree with ya on this Maddict5 Christopher Ellis DE VT and Johnny Dingle DE W. VA are two that will still be on the board when we pick in the 3rd round. True that there will be a Hugh drop in talent at both positions but I think DE's are easier to find in the 3rd that OT's

I'd still throw kenny phillips into the mix if it went down this way.

This is plausible, but I really think Harvey is shooting up the boards the way Ware and Merriman did a few years ago. He'll probably go top 15 easy and maybe top 10.

Williams is a wildcard, some teams might like him better than Clady and Otah...he could go early also.

I also like the little bit of film I've seen on Branden Albert, looks like a perfect ZBS lineman.

I wouldn't. This team has tendered C.C. High then resigned Earl and Demps. Not to mention Brandon Harrison will be healthy this year as well. I actually expect some intense competition for the SS spot this year.

Those of us who prefer a faster, ball-hawking type FS for our secondary are more or less left out in cold in this reguard. The staff seems really comfortable with that they have so you might as well look towards CBs.

For the record if they didn't also almost teleport up to the podium with Chris Williams on he board I'd be disapointed.

Not to be disrespectful but I blew my drink of water through my nose at your post. You would take Phillips over a franchise type LT in Williams and franchise type RB in Stewart for the "best in a very weak FS class"? We have re-signed our pro bowl FS in Demps who should be even better with arm out of cast and a year behind him in our defense. I too would draft a FS, but that would be Tyvon Branch CB/FS who would back up twio positions plus do KR if needed and could be had in 4th.

Goes and gets drink of water.

    LOL you get the point.

Reread the original post Stewart wasnt available for our pick.
I believe our Pro Bowl FS had played in about 2 or 3 games by the time voting was done. Not saying he didnt play good but still. Also IMO Demps is a SS. He is definetly the best FS we have but he is still a SS. If you do draft Kenny Phillips and move Demps to SS IMO we would have one of the best Young group of DB's in the league. With alot of depth CC Brown coming of the bench.

Also this part is really funny to me.
That makes no sense at all. Thats like saying you wouldnt draft Adrian Peterson if he was in a very weak RB class. How does the talent of all the other FS affect Kenny Phillips? Please explain?

i'm with him. I'd take kenny phillips and FINALLY shore up a position that has murdered us historically.

Phillips is no Peterson or any where close. Not saying he is not first rounder but much later imo.

My point is still the same

How does the talent of all the other FS affect Kenny Phillips?

Also if you will look at my original post I said I would through Kenny Phillips into the mix. I didnt say I would take him. But he should definetly be an option in this case.

Phillips may shine better amongst lumps of coal. Does not make him a quality diamond. IMO free safety is not a need for us until 4th at earliest and that is only if we get a second round. LT, RB and CB should be addressed before LT. #18 is a very important pick that can address a starter at need position or bring us additional picks. I am not 100% that Phillips would be out Demps this season. We do not need picks in first- third rounds that do not offer a strong likelyhood of being our starter. IMO the "mix" at 18 has very few possibles. WIlliams is a maybe possible that I am wishing for. Stewart or Mendenhall remain in mix. Other than that I am looking for a trade.
