Looking at our roster is embarssing. Maybe we are slowly winning more games than last year, but I would have to say that if possible, we actually look worse. Lets take a look at our current roster: QB: Carr - I'm sorry, but at this point, barring some miraculous offseason brain washing, I just don't see how this "do whatever it takes not to care" quarterback of ours is going to turn from a "just doin my day job" kind of guy to a "football is my life" kind of leader we need. Sage is a backup, and only looks great in comparison because our #1 guy is so inept. HB: Davis is probably done forever, and the Gado/Dayne/Lundy bumbling on again off again routine is getting old. Serious need. WR: Moulds was supposed to be the veteran presence to take the heat off of AJ. AJ was supposed to be our lead playmaker. Maybe its Carr's fault, but AJ never finds the endzone, and Moulds never even finds the ball. I don't know if Mathis will ever be a WR, and our #3 and 4 guys may as well not even play. FB: I don't know enough about Cook to make a well informed decision, but it seems to me that when you specifically bring in a guy who is supposed to be a great receiver out of the backfield and then he fumbles two receptions on two consecutive crucial games he should be sent packing. At least get a guy who can block. TE: Daniels has shown he has what it takes, but can he be consisent? Maybe if he could split his time bewteen catching and blocking instead of helping the OL the entire game, he'd have more production. OT: Spencer won't be back next year, at least not the way he was. If he was progressing at all with his rehab we would have heard about it or heard from him. All the signs point to a half empty glass. Winston has a long way to go. Salaam and Wiegart's combined age and injury report is enough to scare away small children. OG: Pitts is decent and Weary showed flashes. Does less embarassing count as good? C: Flannagan is good for a game or two in a row, and Hodgon is not NFL caliber. Definite position of need here. Defense: DE: On paper, you'd think Babin + Peek + Kalu + Williams + Weaver would be a force to be reckoned with. I guess papers a little misleading. I don't know who is serviceable out of that bunch, but if we don't get some production out of those players, its going to be a painful bout of hindsight looking back on those drafts. DT: Payne was on the decline and injury riddled list before the season even started, and who knows what is up with TJ. A season off with an injury + another offseason means great business for Burger King but horrible luck for our Houston Texans front 4. OLB: Again I dont even know what to say. Wong- is he healthy is he hurt? Whats the deal. He's not going to back to the way he was, which wasn't even all that great before. Orr is a backup, and Greenwood shows flashes but his contract would have you believe he's headed to the probowl year in year out. MLB: Our one solid position. Too bad we dont have anyone behind him. Secondary: I'm going to go ahead and lump the entire secondary together here. DRob plays with fire when he wants to, but can't count on any of the other guys. Faggins is a fantastic corner for covering slow receivers, but can get burned often and easily. Our safeties were actually caught building sand castles in the end zone one game...well, not really, but you get the point. So in retrospect heres how I see it: Legitimate starters next year: WR: Johnson TE: Daniels OT: Winston OG: Pitts DE: Williams DE: Weaver MLB: Ryans CB: Robinson 8 down, 14 to go. We're in for a long decade.
