I find that funny considering that he was on a prove it contract with us because people thought he was done and didn't want him. From what I read Texans made a fair offer to good offer and made a real push to keep him. KC just made a better, some would same overpaid, offer and he took the money. No good guys or bad guys here just business. I would have liked to kept him but not at 14 million a year.

Better 14 million for Honey Badger than 9 million for Tashaun Gipson

Not really Gipson is better in coverage, and has shut down TEs instead of getting ran over by them. Also it's 7.5 million

Debatable, Gipson actually has slightly better stats than Mathieu.

Don't get me wrong I wanted Mathieu to but not at that price tag. He was good but he wasn't that good and he struggled against any TE with any talent at all. Gipson has his warts but he has done better against talented TEs.

Why are we worried about how much money a player makes, it’s not our money it’s ownerships. They need to do a better job sharing the pot than just hoarding the pot :stirpot:

By that line of thinking why do we care if the team even wins? We won't gets rings or get to hold the trophy, its not going to put more money in our pockets or help our day to day lives really. We care about the money because of the same reason we care about anything else on the team. The amount players make does affect the team, that's why there are salary caps so that its not just battle of the billionaires. If it was then all it would come down to is who is willing to buy the best team. Forget coaching them up, forget drafting just pick a couple of years and then sign every player that is even half way decent and let it be known that you will spend any amount.

There seems to be this theme lately that Cal is sitting on Kirby just counting his money like Scourge McDuck. They can't just throw money at every problem regardless of future issues, that's how teams end up in salary cap hell and that does take a full rebuild to get out of.

Honey Badger is an awesome leader. Reid looks like he will be a better safety...and can cover. I was VERY excited when Mathieu signed here, but not 14m a year excited

He's right. He got way overpaid though. The Chiefs are in a desperate mode to fix their defense and they paid a lot for him. Most players don't play better after a huge contract as well, so there's that. I liked him and wanted him back, but only at a fair price. I think that he underperforms on this contract.

Haha, ya think. Yea good call. Hes a year older and I can't see him performing above last year which wasn't spectacular so for 14m we did good to blink and walk away. Nice to have but not to be

I have a hard time seeing how he could even perform up to the level of that contract. He would have to be a prime Troy Polamalu to justify it, and I don't think he can ever be at that level

Yeah, I think 8 or 9 Mill is about as high as I'd go for him. Otherwise, he simply didn't show that he's worth more than that to me.

I agree, I liked him a lot, but watching him get repeatedly abused by good TEs and crossing routes made me put a limit on his value around where you have it.

Well duuuh... if your current employer wants to keep you but you hear that other companies are paying more than they offered for your skill-set, you'd be doing yourself (and your family) a big disservice if you didn't find out exactly how much more those other folks are willing to pay.
