“Our development was changing him from a weight lifter into a better athlete than he was,” Carlisle said. “When he came out of high school out of Bergen Catholic, he was a tremendous athlete coming in. I think he played every position there was on the field during his time in high school. But when he got here, there were things that we could make better and he was very focused and had a great desire to improve on those things.

Thought the mention of Shaun Cody was neat. Said he has the same sort of driving work ethic that Cushing has (being that Cody is from USC too).

TJ's seat is getting mighty hot with Deljuan making plenty of noise, Smith and Bulman's ability to move inside, Okam still having his personal jury out and now Cody who was possibly just in the wrong situation showing well in practice. Hell, TJ might not even make the team...

Whatever. Shaun Cody hasn't done JACK in his career, and he's had ample opportunity. The guy was at the bottom of the depth chart on with a head coach who's considered THE defensive line guru, so it doesn't really matter what the USC trainer says. His NFL experience speaks much, much louder. Cody wasn't in the wrong situation - he's just not very good to this point. Sure, he could get better - but not because he left Detroit.

You know when Travis Johnson leaves next season, someone else on some other team's message board is going to talk about how TJ was in a bad situation and how he's now going to be great with X team.

This is either excellent news about Shaun Cody or a horrible foreshadowing of Brian Cushing

It's just a fluff piece.......nothing more. Every starter in college is a better player leaving than they were arriving, despite what university they went to. USC just thinks they're God's gift to college football.

I don't feel for Lions management because they stayed with an woefully inadequate GM way too long. I do however, feel for Lions fans.

People like to Dish out praise for Marinelli and a DL coach, some deserved and some I question. The DL while Marinelli was there under performed for as talented as some of the guys were. I think how the DL performs this coming year in Chicago will be telling and if they perform well...Darkhorse in the NFC has got to be the Bears.

I think the best DL coach in the NFL right now is Mike Waufle of the NY Giants.

Far as Cody is concerned could burn the guy for his lack of production in Detroit but, I'd ratherj ust hope he does well in new scenery and on team on the up. I hope some of the small things Cushing does permeates the rest of the squad. We've needed a guy that can ratchet up the intensity on this defense for a while and I hope he can provide it.

No, he's not been good at all but surely you can see his situation was pretty bleak. Great DL coach or not Marinelli was a joke of a head coach and got nothing out of anyone. Anyway, I hope I didn't come across as banging Cody's drum, really just ripping another hole in TJ's drum. All you can ask a guy to do is work hard, if Cody's doing that it's all gravy with me because he's at least 4th on the DT depth chart here too. I don't expect to see him on the field at all.
