So after a poor game (Titans) when he replaced the injured Caldwell (who was already playing through injury before week 4), let's see what happened in week 5. Series One from the Texans 15 - Caldwell 8 plays, 85 yards, 4 first downs, TD. Series two from the Texans 37 - Caldwell 3 and out, -3 yards (including a 5-yd delay of game on Schaub), PUNT. Series three from the Texans 38 - B. Jones 3 and out, -3 yards, INT. Series four from the Texans 4 - B. Jones 4 plays, 51 yards, 1 first down, PUNT. Series five from the Texans 33 - Caldwell 5 plays, 67 yards, 4 first downs, TD. Series six from the Texans 20 - Caldwell 8 plays, 34 yards (including a 10 yd holding penalty on Casey), 2 first downs, PUNT. Series seven from the Jets 9 (set up by McCain INT) - B. Jones, 3 plays, zero yards, FG .... Second half Series eight from the Texans 6 - Caldwell 14 plays, 70 yards, 4 first downs, FG. Series nine from the Jets 46 - Caldwell, 8 plays, 42 yards, 2 first downs, FG. Series ten from the Texans 11 - B Jones, 3 plays, minus one yard (including a 5-yd illegal man downfield penalty on Myers), PUNT. Series eleven from the Texans 15 - B. Jones, 4 plays, 21 yards plus a 5-yd penalty on the Jets, 1 first down, PUNT. Series twelve from the Jets 42 (after KJackson's INT) - Caldwell 3 plays minus 5 yards to run out the clock, PUNT. ... Overall, Caldwell played in 7 series (49 snaps) to B. Jones 5 (17 snaps.) Both had subpar plays here and there; overall, Caldwell still outplayed B. Jones, despite the ankle injury (and whatever else he endured). Not counting penalty yard (since neither was involved in any infraction), the results with Caldwell was 305 yard (6.22 yards per play), 16 first downs, 2 TDs and 2 FGs. The result with B. Jones was 73 yards (4.29 yards per play, 2 first downs, a FG and an INT.) The short FG was on a 3nd out that netted zero yard. The INT was not B. Jones' fault. ... Conclusion for the moment: Jones had not done anywhere near enough (hardly anything, really) to take over Caldwell's place.
