I've read on here that the Raiders don't like taking QB's in the 1st round. Does anyone know why that's so?

'cause the last one they took, Todd Marinovich, was a colossal bust.

2 words: Todd Marinovich. The Raiders drafted him 1st round in 1991 and he was horrible and was a drug addict. Ever since then, Al Davis swore he would never draft a QB in the 1st round ever again. Its a stupid idea because Al Davis shouldn't be drafting anyone (he's NOT the GM!). He needs to swallow his damn pride and realize that he's single handedly destroying the Raiders organization.

it's todd marinovich, plus al davis have never faced the reality of a rebuilding seeason. taking a QB in the first round is somewhat of an admission to the struggles of your team and that you're going to focus on the future and not the present. they'll get a veteran, and a QB in the 2nd round isn't a distant possibility. but 1st round is out.

That would be a great draft for Oakland...at least first day. Calvin Johnson and Troy Smith...The would get the sexy pick award.

Honestly, I'm fairly surprised Al has actually remembered what he said 15 years ago.

I just think if the Raiders wanted a QB, they would have taken Leinart or Cutler last year.

I could actually see us being able to dupe the Raiders into taking Carr. He has great measurables and they obviously don't mind mistake prone QB's in need of a new scenery. (Aaron Brooks). They hosed us, why can't we do it to them? It's not like Davis is smart enough to say no.

Last year, I think they REALLY thought they'd solved their QB problems. They were thinking that they'd have Brooks play for a couple of years while they groomed Walter for the starting position. But I don't think they realized just how bad that line was or just how badly Brooks can play if you give him a chance.

I don't know for sure they'll go for a QB in this draft (or where) but if I were them, I'd be at least considering the possibility that I made a BIG mistake not taking Leinart or Cutler.

In addition to Todd Maranovich, don't forget Marc Wilson (1980). They took him with a 1st, and he was awful too. Al Davis doesn't like to go there.

I tend to agree. Davis has stated he doesn't like to take QBs in the 1st round and I agree that last year would have been the optimal time to take one with Cutler and especially Leinart on the board, so after passing them up I'm not sure he'll pull the trigger on a QB this year. However, at the #1 pick, drafting a WR (Calvin Johnson) or OT (Joe Thomas) might be a better fit for their team, but at the same time drafting either of them is going to end up making them the highest paid player in the NFL at their respective positions, and that idea might be a little hard to sell to the fans, assuming Al Davis cares what the fans think.
