I swear, everytime the "Fire Kubiak" sentiment reaches a fever pitch, his players fight for him. They had no business going 5-1 last year after their 3-7 start. I remember after they lost that second Colts game, the media was asking the players about Kubes ineffectiveness as a coach. All players, to a man, refused to allow anyone to place blame on Gary. It seemed that no matter what, they were going to battle and scratch and claw their way to victory. Yesterday, after the Week 1 debacle, his team took some hits, and responded. Where was that soft-ass team we witnessed against the Jets? It hit me yesterday. When they took Victory Formation, players were lining up to shake Kubiak's hand and give him a hug. I don't know how to take this team. I psyched everyone I knew to watch the first game against the Jets. This week, they play their best game EVER, and I didn't have the stones to tell ANYONE to have their TV's ready. This team is growing, and they still fight hard for their coach. Kubes is not going to make the same mistake they made last year after they beat the Titans. He's not gonna allow this team to read their own press clippings, and let their guards down in this marathon known as the NFL. The Texans need EVERY win they can get, and it's now clear that they still want to do it for their coach. Houston might have it's own Bill Cowher. Cowher was on the "hot seat" in the media for YEARS. The Steeler organization never wavered, because the stability of the organization should remain greater than any 1 or 2 players. I'm digging what I"m seeing, even though it makes me want to kill somebody every now and then. Gary's gone, when his players start tuning him out. Dom Capers never had a squad fight after starting a game down 21-7. Kube's team has done it twice in my memory. First time was in Carolina, on the road, against that healthy squad. Second time was yesterday. "Keep battlin." Seems that the team has takin this as its motto. We started 3-7. Let's finish, and not take a step backwards. The 5-1 stretch showed the team what it's capable of. Now, they have to go out and DO it. That's the "next step" we keep hearing about. As much as this team frustrates me, I can't stop watching. They don't have any quit in them. So long as that's the case, I won't change the channel, no matter the score. The players love their coach, and if they feel he's in danger of getting bounced, they win. Keep the pressure cooking tuned high fans. This is gonna be a hell of a year if we keep the EXPECTATIONS high.
