Must be the genes. Every time I sit down to refine and revise my annual big board for the draft, it's getting harder and harder not to include him as a late first rounder. TJ Watt is one of the most interesting prospects in this year's draft (IMO), it's a shame we have such an abysmal hole to address at the QB position or this would make for an interesting pick for us at 25. Brothers Leroy and Dewey Selmon were some BAMF all pro DT's for several years, we're missing out on our potential version of that. Hypothetically if we were to sign a Romo or otherwise address the QB position in FA, do the Texans bat an eye at taking him at 25 and draft a rookie QB later?

It succumbs to the reality that the efforts and careers of 21 BPA players can languish in futility without a serviceable QB.

I'm intriqued by TJ also. Besides the measurables, there's the good genes and from a good family aspect. I've never seen him play in college so maybe someone could speak more to that. Would love to see his college highlights.

Are you suggesting we have to draft a QB at 25, regardless of whether he looks worthy over a quality player? It sure sounds like that's what you're saying.

Watt is a great prospect but the issue is the injuries. He's messed up both knees, still amazing his athletic measureables are truly elite (94% SPARQ rating), but the worry is the longevity of his body.

No obviously there is a limit. You wouldn't take a QB In the 1st who reasonably could be expected to be at your pick in the 2nd. In between is the grey area. In that instance, IF the QB is someone you like AND you are in desperate need as the Texans are, then yes reach the oh so uncertain 10 guestimated spots and take the QB.

if the top 5 guys are gone at QB what sense would it make to pull the trigger? Its very possible that will become the situation @25 if there is a run, and I don't think anyone would fault them for drafting a non QB then.

When was the last time 5 QB's went in the first? I don't think that happened even in '84

edit: it did in '84 when 7 were taken, but other than that...

    That was a remarkable class

I guess I was speaking hypothetically, but it wouldn't be shocking to me to say the least in a league where Ponder, Gabbert, and Lockler go early with this many teams seemingly needing a qb that Mahomes, Kizer, Watson, Trubinsky, Webb can all go in the first.

Yes then, it is very possible for a thing to happen if it does in fact happen. Well, of course.

But that run itself ain't very possible.

My point was just that it isn't very likely for 5 QB's to go in the first, not to make circular arguments for how it could happen.

it was a hypothetical, not very likely historically speaking, but I think its more likely than typically speaking because the variance of opinion about the top 5 qb's, more so than usual. There isn't a top QB prospect, there's more like 2 or 3 guys who different teams like as the best, still not probable of an occurrence, but more likely this year than most.

If you manage to 'logic' your way to the conclusion that a weak QB class leads to more 1st round selections it may be time to reconsider the 'logic.'

    Yeah, I have to agree.

We've already lost out on certain QB positions due to thinking they'd be there later. Draft pick numbers are all speculation any way on their value until they play.
