Yeah but if Smith decided on all the picks, the FAs, and the UDFAs, that means squat.
Well, we'll finally get an answer on the Smith sucks as a GM or not.
Serious question: how many head coaches DON'T have final say on their roster?
I'm figuring most GM's have final say on who is drafted and who is signed via free agency. But I would think it's pretty common for a head coach to have final say on his roster.
Am I wrong?
It's a start, but we still don't know of the power scheme for sure.
That's the way I see it. I also think having final say on the 53 is just something written in to make HCs feel good. Once the owner says, sign "Ed Reed", or "Start Case Keenum." the HC is going to say, "Ok" and/or start preparing for another gig.
No. But for some reason people confuse final on 53 with draft day.
Yep. That's exactly what I was thinking.
So clearly the head coach has too much power again.
???WTF do you want?
Wow...Where did CnD's post get linked?
One person in particular.
I-Cak probably still wants Kubiak.
What does Kubiak have to do with it?
oh... I just noticed the "just kidding" part.
It's silly to think that the head coach doesn't ultimately decide who is on the roster.
We've been over this time and time again. The coaches tell the GM and scouts what types of players fit the schemes (O and D) and the GM and his staff go out and find guys who fit the schemes.
Everyone gathers round the big screen TV and they (they being the coaches and scouts) rank them and that's how they set their board.
Except when the owner butts in and upset the process, no one person makes a draft day call. Who gets picked is determined by round and highest rated guy on the board.
That's why O'Brien, when interviewed after the draft, was all gushy on how Rick Smith "stuck to the process" during the draft.
Are you guys calling O'Brien a liar??
The devil is always in the details, which we don't know.
I'm referencing the idiotic comments leaked by the Texans that the coaches had too much input when Kubiak was here. JMO, but I don't know that GMs should have anything at all to do with personnel selection. They can stick to managing, not scouting and drafting.
I can't wait to hear Mr. McNair tell us all that he's trying to "be a good teammate". THAT is the power of O'Brien!!!
Anybody else notice the extreme overabundance of that phrase so far?
Tempo. Guy likes saying tempo.
