Courtesy of our friends over at r/Texans. LMAO JD "LIKED" it!!
Totally agree with you.
Except BPB probably isn't the person making the call on a big contract like the one JDC is going to get.
So, even when they do something you agree with, they are still wrong. Yet you have no agenda... hmmm
I don't want them to sign Clowney, but he's saying the Texans are cheap, which I agree with. (2nd most cap space)
These 2things are mutually exclusive.
I'm still hoping in the next day or two that Oakland will come calling with a decent package for us and for JD
Wasn’t our defense one of the better ones the years JJ was out? Clowney was the reason for that. It’s not about sack numbers. It’s about impact plays.
Will Clowney be traded or just plain let walk and how does a guy who isn't signed get traded? WITHOUT a contract??
Problem now with the reports that OBrien doesn’t want Clowney long term how can you get anything significant in return? I’ll say it again - the Texans don’t have any leverage and now the death blow would be the trade request from JD. Say hello to a 4th round pick at best. Nice job Texans way to show the world how a GM by commission works.
LMAO, the Texans would never trade Clowney for a 4th. They let him walk and they get the 33rd pick in the 3rd. Clowney will be playing on the franchise tag or sitting on the couch, unless a team offers at least a 2nd.
Right so Antonio Brown yields a 3rd and 5th when he crossed his arms and said 'screw you guys trade me' ... and Clowney is going to get you a 2nd? OKAY! Sit around and wait for a compensatory pick that has stipulations? OKAY!
If OBrien knew in his heart he didnt like Clowney the stupid ass should have traded him without showing his hand and then maybe you could have tricked a team into a higher pick, that is out the window now.
Maybe. Hopefully there's a team out there that feels they really need Clowney. The Texans don't have to trade him. He can sit on the bench all year. Like Antonio Brown did.
Brown and Clowney are completely different situations, Dee Ford is similar, but obviously the rest of the league doesn't view Clowney as favorably as Ford. What stipulations? Compensatory picks are just like regular picks now. Only a jackass would take a 4th when you already have a 3rd in the bag. Unlike most here I don't think we have a jackass making that decision.
A contract won’t be done before the season. All we can hope for is for Clowney to come in and wreck shop. At that point he’s either traded or we’re paying market value. We’re not getting a discount.
On a related note, this is the last payment of JJ’s guaranteed money; 2 seasons remain after this. 2022 would also mark Watson’s 6th season. Both players would be UFA.
Paying out Clowney’s guarantees before Watson/Watt are up wouldn’t be the worst thing we could do.
There is no guarantee of ANY pick for Clowney. Those picks are dependent on NET loss of free agents. If we sign someone it could very well offset his departure.
Having JD pouting and talking down on the team while he sits out the year is not good for anyone involved. The Texans have taken a HUGE PR hit over the last few years, and at some point those chickens will come home to roost if they havent started doing so already ie... having the most cap money and not being able to sign anyone of significance.
You may be confusing Bell with Brown .. Brown played and played well only to have some team employee state that his success was totally dependent on Big Ben and it snowballed from there with Brown saying "trade me then and find out"
Bell was not going to risk injury and no guranteed money on a 2nd franchise tag in a row.
Whether he's better than mack isn't really relevant. Watson isn't as good as Brady either
If you're believing rumors Clowney does not intend to sit out any games.
absolutely, but it is used to establish a baseline when it comes to salary compensation .. track record shouldnt be in question .. health shouldnt be in question .. so why are the Texans playing hardball with no leverage? Inexperienced negotiators thats why.
I'll feel better when he signs the tender and reports.
