He does it all & very well i might add. but his forte...when he's most disruptive, he's mostly using his speed and agility to run around you or when he was playing more inside, he was using that swim move to go over the top. He wasn't overpowering guys like a Reggie White with his hump move. Players agree.

It is a very simple solution for 2019... We simply franchise tag Clowney. We have plenty of cap room, and the team can address his long term health concerns next off-season.

I'm not the biggest JD fan, but he has great value as a player. My opinion has always been better run defender than pass rusher. 15m per yr for 1st 3yrs guaranteed sounds right. The cap is going to balloon in 3yrs, Watson will be ready money wise and JJ contract will be peanuts. Move to a 4-2-5. Clowney-Reader-Watt-Merci from left to rt.

One more time, being constantly in a 3 pt is bad for Clowney and he likes standing.

Trade Clowney for Jalen Ramsey. Jags supposedly going to put him on the trading block. Problem solved.

Clowney says he wants to play his whole career in Houston, yada, yada... link. Sounds a bit like he anticipates playing 2019 under franchise tag:

The quote sounds like a more mature Clowney. I was on the fence about him (if it was going to cost +$100m) but it appears he has the right attitude, which seemingly is in short supply with many younger players.

They can tag Clowney and hope he still feels very positive about finishing his career in Houston.

For a trade to work it has to make sense for both sides right? Why would the Jags trade one of the best corners in the game to a division rival for another pass rusher when they have an abundance of those?

Because we would be doing the same thing. And Clowney is not chump change and would fit better in their 4-3 defensive scheme. And supposedly, jags are willing to trade Ramsey because they are tired of hus act. http://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/...r-trading-jalen-ramsey-offseason?platform=amp

But I was mistaken on one part. I thought Ngakoue was a free agent this year but he still has a year to go. So no way the Jags would trade for Clowney when they got Calais campbell and Ngakoue.

Go back and watch Clowney carefully, especially in the Colts game. Watch him perform his swim moves and you'll see him do what every rookie knows better than to do...............jump up/leave your feet.........and guarantee you lose the battle every time.

McFarland who played DL in the league for 6 or 7 years and has two rings made some very critical comments about Clowney during the game in this regard. He even said Clowney should be embarrassed. Clowney seems to be one of those guys who makes occasional spectacular plays that overshadow his mistakes. I just hope the Texans look at both sides of the equation before strapping themselves with a huge long term cap hit. It also should be a concern(in my opinion) when the last year in a guys contract he is much more productive than the previous three. So it should seem obvious the franchise tag is the way to go... and that's what scares me is the Texans seldom seem to see the obvious.

The medical risk is why a long term contract should be questioned unless it is set up as minimal to cut after 2 years.

He was more productive last year.

Another good point. I just hope they don't do the same thing they did with O'Brien, situations like Clowney's is the reason the franchise tag exists.

    Dates to remember:

The first day that NFL teams can use the tag is Feb. 20.

The deadline to reach a long-term deal with franchise players is July 16.
