BUENO!
Chris Taylor: By all means get him in there. I cant for the life of me imagine why hes sat idle on the practice squad all these weeks. Next week if he busts out for 150 yards we wont know if its because hes the real thing or because the line just felt like doing its job but thats immaterial. We need to find a difference maker at RB and Chris Taylor is the only rock we have left that we havent looked under.
I hate this, but when will we really ever have a chance: Is that really a post on this board? Come on guys if you cant do any better than that just log out and become one of those guests who usually outnumber the posters 3 to 1. When will we really ever have a chance? Ill tell you when. Well have a chance when we stop making stupid mistakes and start playing smarter football. Well have a chance when we stop throwing two yard passes on 3rd and 6. Regardless of whether thats the quarterbacks, receivers, or coaches fault I dont care but its got to stop. Well have a chance when decide that were going to kick the snot out of somebody not from Jacksonville.
People talking about our lack of talent have a point but theyre not even close to telling the whole story. We dont have the worst defensive line in the NFL and we dont have the worst linebackers. I bet we dont even have the worst secondary in the NFL. Were probably close but I bet theyre collectively not the worst bunch of players. We dont have the worst offensive line and we dont have the worst quarterback or the worst receivers. As bad as they are we dont even have the worst running backs in the NFL.
What we have is the worst TEAM in the NFL. Well have a chance to win when they start to put that together. There is no I in team but teams do need leaders. We dont exactly have one of those at the moment. Somebody has to step up and say follow me and it has to be someone with credibility. I dont honestly know who could do that on our team. I dont see that person on our roster.
Texans Grades: Let me save anyone who hasnt read this already some time. They got an F on a lot of stuff and for the most part they deserved it.
Picking #1 Again!: I sure hope not. I have no interest in going through another off-season like the one we just experienced. Thankfully this draft contains nobody that will completely polarize our fan base like Reggie Bush and Vince Young did last year but Im sure wed find something to fight about. I still expect the Texans to win some games so Im not expecting them to finish with the worst overall record two years in a row. I think we pick in the top 5 of course but I hope were not going first again.
Mostly Im sad to see that were talking about this so soon. Im ok with the fact that were not talking playoffs because that wasnt very realistic anyway but I hate that were back on the draft with 5 games left to play. Thats the mark of a lousy team. Nobody with a good team is talking about the draft right now. Nobody with any hope is talking about the draft right now. Only the losers care about draft order in November.
This play sticks out to me: I remember watching that play Wolf is talking about and thinking much the same thing he did. Who was open? Why wasnt anyone open? How come David Carr still doesnt understand that running out of bounds behind the line of scrimmage counts as a sack? How come nobody can manage to get open or come back to their QB and try to make a play? I thought that play was symbolic of the entire season. As much as things seem better at times they still turn out the way they always have. It was to me a very discouraging outcome for a play where David Carr had that long to figure out what to do. It told me that given forever he will still not be able to make a play. We can debate whether or not thats his fault or his teammates all day long for all I care but that is the fact of the matter.
Honestly: Do you want the Texans to lose the rest of their games?: Already were seeing this garbage? There are 5 weeks left and some very beatable teams coming up. If we lose the rest of our games I am truly concerned for what this means to the team. We all say that Gary Kubiak isnt concerned about losses right now and that hes not in the hot seat. I completely agree with that. We say that David Carr isnt going anywhere and that our team is dedicated to making it work with him and Im pretty sure thats the case too. If we stagger into the off-season losing our last 7 games then who here can honestly say that Gary Kubiak hasnt lost them? Who here really wants to see another year of David Carr after back to back 2-14 and 3-13 seasons? Who in the locker room wants to follow him out of the tunnel at that point? One win improvement is no improvement at all. One more win is utter failure and what do you build in 2007 on that?
Poll: Carr debaters please vote: For crying out loud havent we heard enough from the Carr debaters already. I keep thinking to myself Carr debaters please shut up for a while but thats just me and I know thats not even remotely possible in the current environment. Actually I think this is the reason he needs to go. I dont want to see David Carr sent packing because hes a failure. I want to see him sent packing because hes the focal point of everything bad about the first 5 years of the Houston Texans. When Bob McNair said David Carr was going to be the face of our franchise he failed to mention that it was going to happen whether things went well or badly. Theyve gone badly and the town has turned on David Carr much as Cleveland turned on Tim Couch. Its over guys and the only people who dont understand that apparently work for the Texans front office. When 2007 starts I expect David Carr to still be our starter but I think we see it all come apart next year if they dont start notching wins from the start. Were going to see blackouts and booing in large quantities unless were winning from opening day. Anyone here expect us to be winning from opening day? Me neither.
Right now a lot of us wish wed taken Vince Young in the draft. I wasnt in that camp and maybe I was wrong. I just dont know how that will turn out. I do know one thing. When the blackouts come Bob McNair will be wishing we had selected Vince Young in the 2006 draft. Im positive of that.
GAME PLANNING-Please Explain: While youre at it would you mind explaining it to Gary Kubiak? Hey get all the coaches in the room and go through it a few times. This bunch seems to need more work on the chapter labeled Halftime Adjustments.
It could be worse: Yes and Im very afraid it will get worse next year (see paragraphs above for details). Maybe well get lucky and the team will see this game as a reality check. Maybe theyll all get together and say Enough of this crap! and change the direction in which theyre headed. A good team would do that. A team with some leaders could do that.
Mario Ragdolled DBrickashaw: Thats good to read. Im glad to see that Mario Williams doesnt appear to be a mistake. Im glad to see that hes going to be a factor on the defensive line and that hes contributing. I truly believe that hell be an anchor there for years to come. All first overall picks deal with unrealistic expectations and they all are subject to second guessing. Mario gets a little more than most but Ive been quite happy with him over the past few weeks. I think hes going to be a good player for us.
OK, my turn I think Im officially done now too: Cmon Hookem you aint done. The fun is just getting started! Why in the world would you want to miss out on all of this? Its time for all true fans of the Texans to embrace the horror and band together for the run to the finish line. You put up with this for 11 games and youre telling me you cant do 5 more games? You were here through the Sack-arama of 2002 and the Bataan death march of 2003. You can watch 5 bad Texans games standing on your head man!
If necessary we can send you beer to get you through to the end. Just say the word (and brand) and well get a care package headed your way. Remember man, If not you then who? If not the next 5 Sundays then when?
We might feel this way about D. Carr someday : Dont count on it. Houston is a notoriously unforgiving city. Sure you can always find one guy whos willing to hold that sign up in a crowd of angry fans but thats just Darwin at work.
If it reaches a point where Texans fans run David Carr out of town then it will truly be over. Think Steve Francis.
Sage and Flanagan Gone!!!: Two more gone for the year and ones a starter. Hey look at the bright side of things. Drew Hodgdon gets to try and show that he can do the job (valuable reps are hard to find) and Flanagan was having trouble staying on the field. He can hang out with Weigert who also cant finish as season intact.
I was getting tired of the START SAGE! posts anyway. Im looking forward to the many START VAN PELT posts that will replace them.
Is This place just about David Carr ??: Yes, next question?
5 Long Years: It has been hasnt it. It feels like 10 years really. It feels like the Oilers from 1983 to 1987 but were not on the cusp of a long successful run after 5 bad years. Were looking at more bad times ahead before we get to the end of the tunnel. Ive never followed a team with less hope than the Texans give me right now.
Zone blocking and other voices in my head: I would put some kind of answer here but Im in one of those moods where I never want to hear the words zone and blocking together again for as long as I live. It frustrates me so much that I really cant talk about it. Maybe in a couple of days Ill be able to talk about how we can roll up 180+ yards rushing against Buffalo and then have the kind of day we had against the Jets a week later. For now I just want it all to go away.
I hate this, but when will we really ever have a chance: Is that really a post on this board? Come on guys if you cant do any better than that just log out and become one of those guests who usually outnumber the posters 3 to 1. When will we really ever have a chance? Ill tell you when.
