Forgive me if the following observation is presumptuous or overly simplistic as I am relatively new to this board, but the current environment up here for the last couple of weeks has been, at times, frustrating. The major themes seem to be:

    1. If you’re in favor of drafting Young then you’re either (a) a Longhorn homer; (b) a David Carr hater, or (c) both.

    2. On the other hand, if you’re in favor of drafting Bush then you are football savvy and “a real fan”.

    3. And finally, if you’re in favor of trading the pick and trying to bulk up some other need areas then your voice is pretty much drowned out by the other two.

The thing is, if you take a step back and look at the big picture there are very strong, compelling arguments for all three (no need to elaborate on them here). In the end the Texans “win” no matter which direction they go. It’s a great position that we’re in (which of course makes for some very interesting discussion regarding what is the best course).

My point with this post? The bottom-line is that all of us up here are big fans of the Texans or else we wouldn’t have registered in the first place, and we wouldn’t be wasting our time posting. We’re all proud of Houston and want to see the team represent the city well, regardless of who is QB, RB, coach, or otherwise. I wish we could keep this in mind, and maybe even be a little more open-minded when someone posts an opinion that differs from our own. We’re at a critical juncture in the team’s history, and in the end we all want the same thing.

    Peace, and Go Texans!

I agree with ya.. some people will probably give you a hard time for making another "we are all fans" post.. but Id rather be drowned by these than drowned by more draft posts :).

The only people on this board that I have no patience with are the ones who wont support the team if we dont do what they want. Other than that.. you are right..there are good arguements for all three routes.

Personally, I find the Vince Young arguements weak... and I think that is where the arguements stem from. Its not that people cannot understand the arguements for going one route or the other.. its just that everyone is against at least one of the options because they feel it would be a bad move, so they loudly proclaim their personal preferance, and do their best to debunk the other. This leads to some pretty off the wall comments ..which leads to more loud proclamations..so on and so forth.

One thing that we can all take heart in is that we have a young coach coming in who, in 9 years coaching, has 3 superbowl rings and has run one of the most successful and long lasting offenses in the league. I think of all the coaches being hired..we got the cream of the crop..and I see us over .500 and competing for a playoff berth fairly quickly with him at the helm. I havent been this excited about my team since 2002 :)

I'm not a Longhorn or David Carr hater , He lives in my neighborhood, I love my Sienna folks! :)

I just hate to lose and I think the OL sucks but I really don't think DC is that great either. I think he's overrated and overpaid.

I personally want VY, but your right, we're in a win win situation. I don't care who is throwing the rock, as long as we can rescue this sinking ship!!:ok:

I'm personally glad to see someone else who recognizes the plus-plus-plus side of the end of the season. No matter what the team does, I believe there'll be major improvements all across the board.

I am with you. Any of the three choices will make a positive impact on this team. No matter what the team/orginization decides to do, I will stand behind them.

I'm glad you wrote this because I had a poster tell me the other day to stop wasting everyones time and to get off the board all because I had a differing opinion on what a leader was and because I wasn't a Carr fan. The funny reality of it is that I am not for drafting VY but I don't like Carr. Some how I got lumped into this Bush hater/VY lover like I had nothing redeeming to say. We can all learn from each other so having a differing opinion is not a sin. I have been watching football since the 70s and love to talk all things about it. We are all here for the same goal. It will be years before we find out if any of our opinions on the draft or in hiring comes to fruition.

And I believe 42.7% of all posters on this board would agree with you...(insert smiley face here for visual impact)

Actually, there are a few of us that will be content with either one of the three options presented to us. (translated: they are all great choices!)

I've taken the position that since I'm powerless to influence the decision(s) in any way, shape, or form, then I'm not investing any emotional ties to the eventual outcome.

Because regardless of what happens, we're getting an upgrade from what we had in 2005. And in addition to that, we've got a whole new coaching staff!

As a Texans fans, I'm just stoked about our future now. I might have leanings one way or the other with regards to the Bush/Young/trade down debate, but it's nothing I'm going to defend to the death and/or refuse to grant valid arguments to the other choices.

At the end of the day, it's all good. :howdy: :texflag:

I started a post similar to this a week or so ago trying to make the point that no matter what we do in the draft we as fans win because we have football back in Houston and we have an owner that will do everything and anything to make this team a winner. Opinions and debates are great but that is all they are. In the end, if we want a team we have to support them in good times and in bad and whether we agree with all the decisions or not.

Great minds think alike, 'eh? :thumbup

I'm actually more optimistic about our future now than ever before. Which is kind of strange, when you consider we were 2-14, still don't have an official head coach, and are up in arms about our choices with our no. 1 draft pick.

But it's gonna' be alllll-right. :howdy:

I like what you had to say. Getting a new coach, new system and having top picks to fill out a team makes for an exciting time. Kind of like having the expansion franchise but with some discovered talent already in place.

This is my son's number in football so I just wanted to show my intermost fantasy. Oh yes, RETIREMENT! Just kidding, but that's his number and he LOVES the Texans and he's a born Jayhawker. I still got the Earl avatar if ya want to use it.

Very true.. "everyone is against at least one" isnt very accurate. What I meant was "everyone arguing for one route or the other" ... but you are right, we are all powerless to influence the decision..no matter how loudly we support one or the other. I have confidence that our FO will make the best decision for the future of the franchise.

Let's sing together: We are the world, we are the children.... just kidding. I agree with the original poster. I think so many of us get caught up in a world where we live our lives to some extent thru others. It may be athletes, actors, performers or others. Often we may not be able to voice our opinion at work or in our socializing. You may get ridiculed by some ***** on the internet, but you can't get "punched out". Some of the responses remind me of Little League games I used to watch when my son was MUCH younger. The kids wanted to just have fun and learn a little. Often, moms and dad's were having screaming fits leading to coronary attacks. It is ok IMO to vest in sports and other forms of "entertainment" but that should be all it is.
