I know we all like to complain about how this team performs but they do a lot of things really well. They are really close to being a fantastic football team. Everyone blames the coaches for the teams failures .... but they dont give them any credit for those things they do well.

Fact is this team does everything accept rush the passer (middle of the pack) and stop the pass (dead last) well above the average of the league.

#6 in rushing yards per game.

#7 in passing yards per game

    #6 in total offense.

#6 in 3rd down conversion percentage.

    #1 in converting 3rd and <=1 yard.

#3 in first downs per game.

#3 in average gain per rush.

#6 in yards per pass play.

    #6 in redzone conversion percentage.

#6 in rushing yards allowed per game.

They have the leagues leading rusher , leader in yards from scrimmage , the 4th leading reciever and their QB is 5th in passing yards.

If only they could stop someone thru the air their record would likely be considerably better :smiliepalm:

    And generate turnovers.

We're 2nd to last in take aways in the NFL

We don't even have to be a good pass defense if we could just get an interception every once in a while. 2nd to last, and thats AFTER Quinn's 3 pick game against Rusty Green or whatever his name was

Thats because everyone wants to throw against us...why run the ball when we are 2nd to last against the pass...ur stats pointed out the obvious...i offense is hot when it is hot and our defense blows :gun:

Have you watched the games , checked the stats or are you just talkin out your ass?

They play the run well above average 7th in the NFL in yards allowed per carry with.

The only teams that have run the ball well against the Texans this year was the Jag's and Chiefs .... and they averaged almost 8 yards per carry after Ryans left the game.

We do a lot of things well, and I think that is why so many people think we are so close to becoming a really good team. The things that stand out in my mind for why we lost yesterdays game were:

    1) The inability of our offense to get out of our own end in the first half, resulting in extremely good field position for the Ravens' offense, and

    2) Our horrendous special teams play, which again resulted in us losing the field position battle. We attempted a FG that was out of our kickers range and constantly started within our own 20, not to mention gave up a TD. Not good enough.

As good as our offense is, they need to be able to at get one or two first downs deep in our own end to at least give our already terrible defense a chance. This is about finding some consistency and intensity at the beginning of games.

Yep. As bad as the defense has been this year special teams has kinda flown under the radar. They have been horrid.

Now I don't have other teams stats to compare this to but it looks pretty bad to me. In the Texans last 77 drives, 36 of them (47%) have started no further than the 20 yard line, with 26 of those 36 not even making it to the 20. In this last game alone, the average starting field position for the Texans was the 16 yard line. Only 3 times in 12 possessions did the Texans start past the 20.

They're bottom 3rd in kickoff coverage, Turk has the 7th worst punt average, Texans are 4th worst in both KO and punt return average. Add the 103 yard kickoff return to their misery and special teams is killing this team at least as much as the defense has this season.

The fact of the matter is that we have faced some of the best defenses in the league. We dismantled them, but we can only do it for a half at a time. If our defense were good enough to make 1 more stop per game, our record would be a lot different at this point.

We just need to find consistency and be able to play with 2nd half intensity throughout the game. I don't think there are too many teams that would stop us at that point.

Yowza! I think turnovers.... or lack thereof is the biggest thing hurting this team. While being so awful in passing defense is never a good thing, what makes it so bad for me is that we're not even being aggressive back there. If we had a good amount of interceptions but get burned some (allowing for big plays/yards) then that's one thing. But we're playing not to get beat deep and are still getting beat.

Two things that I really want changed (at a minimum):
1- Be more aggressive, create more turnovers
2- Stop the opponent more on 3rd/4th downs.

Inability to generate turnovers has been the Texans calling card for practically there whole existence.

Something I noticed on monday night against the Ravens was our defense on 3rd down. The ravens would almost always convert on third down through the air!!!!

Their first 3rd down conversion was 3rd and 14 from their own 11.

Even tho the Ravens didnt score on their opening drive , if the defense makes a stop on that initial drive the course of the game likely changes along with the field position - The Ravens won that battle most of the game.

They converted a 3rd and 16 from the Texans 26 .... Touchdown Ravens.

I havent gone back to look at game logs but it sure seems that this defense gives up an awful lot of 3rd and very long conversions , those are game changers.

No .... I didnt forget those stats . All of those are tied to their major shortcoming.

Maybe you missed that part the first time.
