I have nothing against Bruener at all. He's a solid guy and a consummate professional, but I'm not sure how him re-signing will impact this team.
It looked like he was sure to go when Kubes took over. Seems like he's adapted pretty well.
thats nice, but it shouldn't make a difference on improving our team
For one, he is still regarded as the #1 blocking TE in the NFL
Number 2, he was voted by the players as the LEADER of the team
Number 3, he is a vet who knows the game and can help develop Daniels blocking ability
And lastly, he is always good for a few catches where he drags the defenders 5-10 yards before falling
Its not like he got some huge contract thats going to break the team. Great locker room guy, great influence, great blocker. What more do you want?
i wonder if they have tried him as a tackle. he's big and he can block. he's probably too slow though.
I like bringing him back in the same spirit as Kalu and Salaam, a reliable veteran leader.
Also he is a good blocker which can only help the team.
Good blocker, and a weapon in the redzone...
I didn't see Bruener drop any balls at all in '06. With Owen on one end, and he on the other... Which TE do you cover??
Still makes me question the Putzier signing. Sounded good at the time, but now I'm scratching my head on this.
He was basically an extra coach who could play if needed.
I agree with everything you say, and I know that he actually had a couple of TD's last year, but the thing that I really liked about your post, was the point you made with respect to Own Daniels...
This makes me happy. Our TE situation is fine and I think that's just about the only position on the team we can say that about.
After GTexan made some good points about Bruener that I agree with, I am with you on this now...
Well we need to get the two of you in the F.O. to straighten those guys out. How could they not have known that we were going to get Owen Daniels in the 4th round, and he'll actually work out in the NFL much better than the last two T.E.s we drafted??
T.E. was a big need. We got lucky...... 'nuff said.
We need some veterans on this team for the young guys. Good signing.
Dang, I'd rather have Bennie J. back than resigning this old codger.
Yeah, because Benny has meant so much to the team...
