The problem with free agency is it takes 2 to tango.
All they had to do was pay up. I mean, Antonio Brown demanded a trade from a super bowl contender to a bottom feeder just because they’ll pay him. I’ve said it in another post 99% of these guys care about primarily money and the opportunity to play. Winning a super bowl is the goal during the season but getting the best contract possible is the goal of every player in the offseason considering most careers last less than a decade and you’re lucky to get a 2nd contract. If you can get a 3rd contract you’re as lucky as they get. So you get what you can when you can
To be fair Pats and other teams were in on Brown as well. Pats reportedly offered more draft compensation to Raiders but the Steelers sent him to Raiders because the Pats are more of a threat.
Yeah and I mean just going back to the point 99% of these guys really don’t care where they play in their prime. They want the money, and opportunity to showcase their talent. The only time you have a player choose a team offering less money (and it has to be real damn close) is if they’re a veteran in the last year or two chasing a potential ring, the opportunity to play close to home, or a young guy who feels they can come here and play well for the short term to get a larger contract the following season. Our problem is we weren’t aggressive in free agency, or the draft. And you usually have to be major players in one of the two to advance into that next echelon of teams
