Texans had talks with Bush agent today, but no numbers where exchanged yet. From the espn.com report it looks like they will start to do that later this week.

"Bush remains the favorite to be the Houston choice. ESPN.com has learned that there was dialogue on Tuesday between the Texans and Bush's agent, Joel Segal, but still no substantive negotiations. There have been no hard contract talks yet, either, with the representatives for North Carolina State defensive end Mario Williams, the other prospect Houston is apparently considering with the first pick.

It's believed that the Texans will commence negotiations later this week with the aim of having the top pick signed before the draft begins. League rules permit the Texans, by virtue of owning the top selection, to begin contract negotiations with one or more candidates for the No. 1 spot."

I can't wait for April 29th. If nothing else, i hope we draft RB just so we can get some national attention. Im tired of having the games blacked out where I live!!!

Mario Williams would be great....but i would like him a lot more if we traded down and got him. I still don't know what i really really want....but i think a trade down is what the Texans really want. Gut feeling i guess.

Misleading title. It's the same bull we've been hearing all along, & all they're doing is speculating that the Texans will start negotiations. The bottom line is, it's less than 2 weeks till the draft & they haven't even exchanged offers yet.

It's two weeks before the draft and the Texans haven't exchanged offers with anyone. They are moving slow and exploring all options. As you can imagine, this is a pretty important pick and they don't want to make a mistake.

I REALLY think that IF Houston passes on Bush that he WONT end up wearing a Titanics uniform ...... The Aints could take him themselves or trade out of the #2 spot for a lesser premium than it would have taken to move to #1 ..... There is still the option of the Texans making a trade on or before Draft Day ....

Still the thought of Young OR Bush in a Titanics uniform makes me want to vomit in Bud's Cheerios :brickwall

the Texans need to field a well put together TEAM, which if they signed Reggie Bush would mean cap structure would be way out of whack with so much money invested in the #1 overall pick, plus Domanick Davis with his multi-million extension, last years third rd pick Vernand Morency & free agent aquistion FB Jameel Cook in the backfield excluding the 25 million or whatever they extended David Carr for.

longterm despite short term gains the Texans would be better served by trading down & spreading cap money around mutliple positions. The Texans still need a franchise LT & they don't come cheap, another frontline CB and they are not cheap either, not to mention a free safety, MLB & DE

Trading down and getting a CB and MLB is not such a horrible thought is it? Is there a decent MLB candidate (I understand most people project Hawk to OLB). I wonder if it might be best to rest on where we are on the offensive side - other than picking up mid-round talent to bolster the OL (my understanding being that Kubiak prefers OL's who are not as big in size and tend to drop to later rounds anyway).

No, I'd rather imagine Peek pile driving him into the dirt twice a year for the next decade. :D :stirpot:

Take a step back and relax. First, you are right, they need to field a whole team, however things are not half as bad as you think they are, cap wise. DD may have gotten a multimillion $ extension, but the last 2 years of his contract are huge (like $4-$5 mm/yr), so he could be cut or traded and that would instantly come off the cap. His bonus proration (dead money) wouldn't be that bad. Remember, next year they aren't trying to win the SB, just get some good additions, get better, and clear the deadmeat off the payroll (like Marcus Coleman and Gary Walker's contracts). Morency makes next to nothing, and you do need depth in the NFL. Carr's extension was not 25 million, it was an 8 mm bonus.

As I see it, they aren't in bad shape, cap wise, after they clear out the dead money this year. The real test isn't whether they take Bush or trade down (because I don't think anyone is going to give them a truckload of picks for Bush). The real test is how they do in their other picks. They need to hit on all of the first 4 picks (thru the 3rd round). They can't afford any more so-so Jabar Gaffneys or Charles Hill (3rd round 2002 pick NT, didn't even make it out of training camp). And no more Bennie Jopprus.

    Forgot to mention

How many teams in the playoffs had 'franchise LTs'. Seattle had one - but look at New England, Denver, Carolina, etc. They built good OLs without using a top 4 pick on a LT. You have to have good coaching and good players, but you don't have to have the best tackle in the league.

The one thing the Texans offense did not have the past 3 years......good offensive coaching. Their Offensive coaches were just plain awful.

bush will be the man.they going to need bush if davis does get hurt and one man wont do good to help win and game or going above to the super bowl. i also think bush is better then any playere and prove it on the tv at the rose bowl. vince was there as lucky and won every yr ut beat and team over 50 pts against with no talent. this like happen all the time with longhorns and look close texas almost got beaten by the ohio state with only low score and by 3pt same with usc.they play over and over with same team well usc play the best team and were worn off tired.but they to win the 3peat again but couldnt.so vince isnt worth like ricky william they never were that damn good or anything.i hope people realize longhorns think they alway the best when they arent .big cow step over a ant give me a break.:ok:

The Texans can definatly get more for less with this draft, but they would need alot of guts to do it. Trade down a couple spots and pick up another 2nd and 3rd rounder. Trade Carr to the Raiders or Jets and then pick up a solid defensive presence (Hawk or Williams), with a second 1st round pick. The Texans would be able to get rid of Carr's contract, draft Vince and sign him to a long term contract loaded with signing bonuses so he doesn't count as much against the cap. It is a business, but Vince has already stated that he would take less to play at home.

That is normally what you do after a 2-14 season, look at the history of the NFL. Something has to change, not only the coaching staff. I love the Texans, but don't kid yourself to think that they will win it all next year. I do hope for the playoffs with the people they have now, before the draft.
