    I have a Texans calendar, and the Texans fact for 8 March 07 is;

"The 2002 Texans were the first expansion team to have players selected to the Pro Bowl since the 1967 New Orleans Saints."

How long was it before the Saints had a winning record???????? I hope this isn't a sign.

    Saints started play in 1967.

    1979: Saints finally made .500.
1987: Saints first winning season, 12-3.

There's a reason people called them the Ain'ts.

To answer your question, only 20 years or so...

The Saints got their 1st playoff win in the 2000 season (against the Rams). The 34th season in franchise history.

Dick Nolan ( oddly enough )

    0-12 when fired, finished 1-15.

well to be honest, I have the charts open in some other windows. So it's not like I am walking around with Dick Nolan on my mind.:D

    and for DB:
I am looking at all of these other records to spot crappy teams that have made the playoffs and there are a few.

1998 Cardinals: that didn't do anything that well except for pass and takeaways.

1994 Bears: Couldn't run or pass, had an okay pass defense, zero pro-bowlers, Walsh and Kramer in the pocket, and still advanced to the divisional round in the playoffs. It's almost like their secondary propelled them into the playoffs by themselves.

Green Bay, Minnesota, Detroit, and Chicago made the playoffs that year.

NFC my friend that is why. Not because they were worth a damn, just because they had no competition.

    Vikings are the first ones.

Carolina had a good defense in all three of their playoff runs and had at least 11 wins in each one.

NFC back in 1994 were the kingpins. That's SF with Young, The Smith Cowboys, Favre Packers, Sanders Lions, Carter/Moon Vikings.

I don't think the balance started to shift to the AFC until 97/98 when the Broncos went to the Super Bowl back to back.

Yes, I do understand that the league has changed a bit with 4 divisional seeds, but the Chiefs squeaked in last year in tough division. So it shouldn't be that much of a stretch to get in on a wildcard while we wait for Manning to slow down and Titans to make some critical management errors.
