I am sorry but I am calling BS on their calculation method. He isn't even the 27th wealthiest NFL player much less athlete.

Hope this isn't accurate. If the only QB's who make more are Brees and Peyton, it is a joke.

Here's the current Spottrac top 10 QB listing for 2013. There several ways to sort it, but the highest Schaub shows up is #8 for signing bonus, and #9 for average salary (which includes non-guaranteed future base salary).

He doesn't show up in the top 10 for 2013 base salary, 2013 cap hit, or overall guaranteed money.

Here's their approach to the numbers..........and the entire S.I. "Fortunate 50 List" and the athlete's corresponding "wealth" calculations.

If he is, it's because he invested wisely. He hasn't made that much money TBH. Also, wouldn't Brady be somewhere in the top 50? This list looks stupid.

Essentially what happened with Schaub is that the list factors in any bonuses received as a one year hit - even though it may be related to a long term deal. Not surprisingly, other than Schaub, the only non-rookie starting QB's who got new contracts in 2012 were Peyton Manning, and Drew Brees - the two QB's ahead of him on this list. Subsequent to the 2012 season, Rodgers, Brady, Romo, and Flacco received signing bonuses that ranged from $11.5 Million to $19.5 Million more than Schaub received. The possibility still exists that Matt Ryan could be added to that list too.

This is a one year only glimpse at things, and as such is at best limited, and at worst misleading if you take it at face value and don't try to dig a little to understand it better.

This is yet another stupid offseason list. I'm sure they're counting his entire bonus on the contract he signed last year. He'll never make this list again.

I have to agree. The $17 million signing bonus completely skews what Schaub's real annual salary will be, and he probably won't be on this list ever again. Unless of course he signs another contract with another big signing bonus. :shades:
