“I’ve never met David Carr, but I can tell you that my main objective is going to be to make sure that the running backs have great holes to run through, that the quarterback has unbelievable time to throw, and that the receivers can have time to catch the ball." - Eric Winston

That's interesting and very contrary to the way I thought things would turn out...

Spencer's supposed weakness is speed rushers, which he'll see plenty of on the left side, and Winston's weakness is supposed to be drive blockers, which he'll see a lot of on the right side...

    Very interesting indeed...

Anybody else think that this could be Kubiak's way of improving our young bookends' weaknesses? Winston can't help but get stronger if he's forced to block against a strong LE like Weaver, and Spencer will become better at handling speed rushers since he's going to be going against Super Mario and Babin or Peek...

They will be our tackles in the future but there is no way Kubiak starts two rookie tackles after the team is coming off a 2-14 year.

If we could find a way to start 5 of them it would be like the Texans answer to the Killer B's. I'm not sure what sound effect they would use, though.

A bunch of stories in the chronic today....

Sorry (not really) but the more time reflecting on this draft, I think it was the smarter move in the long term. As mentioned numerous times this was the correct "football decision".

    Winston - Pitts - Ferguson - McKinney - Spencer

    is that the starting line?

He certainly has the size...perhaps the coaches think he has the feet too.

The best thing rookie tackles are good: drive killing penalties. They will probably sit and learn for a year with a little spot duty.

One of them may beat out Wand, however.

you know I hope this guy has mean streak. I think this is the first time I have heard a lineman say this (I realize I may have missed a few thousand quotes or two in 4 years). I used to get tired of the nonchallant ways the linemen would walk back to the huddle after Carr is picking himself off of the turf (not saying Carr didn't put himself in the position of a sack or two), but actually hearing a linemen come in with that attitude pleases me

    Houston, again.
From what I have read, he does have a mean streak and.. yes...it is VERY good to hear an O-lineman have that attitude. Hope they all have it or catch it.

"Every coach has their opinion of where they think your best position is and where you can contribute most," Pitts said. "That's what the new staff feels will be best. It's known that I prefer to play tackle, but I will play guard.

"I expect us to get better this year, especially because I believe Kubiak's (zone-blocking) system is solid and effective. I believe everybody will be better, and things will go better for all of us."

I think this verifies what most of us were thinking last year, that the team had lost faith in Pendry.

The best part imo about the aquisition of Spencer and Winston is that our line finally has DEPTH!!!

I worry about how we keep trying to play guys out of their natural position. Look what happened when you moved McKinney from LG to C.

Even if Wiegert beats out Mckinney in training camp he'll still get injured allowing Mckinney to step into the starting role :stirpot:
