Since Fiddy has gone off line & hasn't read my PM yet, I'm going to post the trade between Beerlover & myself on here so that everyone knows.

The Hottoddie Lions trade the #41 pick to the Beerlover Jaguars for the #52 & #87 picks. Good luck Beerlover.

Jack "beerlover" Del Rio is proud to anounce a trade has been consumated with Lions GM Hottoddie in exchange for the 41st selection the Jaguars trade away both the 2nd (#52) and 3rd (#87) picks.

With the 41st pick the Jacksonville Jaguars select Corey Webster CB, LSU. Graded out as a 1st round talent & the last of the big CB's available the opportunity to strengthen the secondary, along with continued contract talks with Darius convinced the ogranization the cost was well worth the move. Corey gives the Jaguars a shutdown corner, he has all the tools, good speed, size, tackling & leaping ability plus exceptionally long reach which should come in useful against some of the big young WR's like AJ of the Texans & Roy Williams of the Lions just to name a couple.

The Dallas Cowboys select Odell Thurman LB form the University of Georgia. This is a pick the help with the the transsion to the 3-4 defense (damn I'd wish they just annouce if they are going to a 3-4 or not, make this alot easier) At 6'1" and 235 pounds, Odell may be a bit slight, but he is more than makes up for it with his physical play. A superb tackler, and sble to cover from sideline ot sideline, Thurman should quickly find a home with the starting linebacker corps.

Straight from the commish Fiddy we have the selection for swtbound07 via beerlover, the NY Giants select-

ADAM TERRY, OT SYRACUSE 6'-9" 324 LBS

Manning is getting killed plus Terry excells at run blocking. The Giants may address this #1 need via F/A but if they don't and want to help Eli stay healthy and prosper in the league he needs a franchise tackle. The Giants could have also chosen one of the interior linebackers left but NFL tackles don't grow on trees, they grow up in Queensbury NY & ideal fit for the G-MEN.

With the 45th pick the Carolina Panthers select:
Marcus Johnson OT Ole Miss

For the Panthers this pick came down to two players who made strong showings at the Senior Bowl - Marcus Johnson (OT) and Bryant McFadden (CB). After passing on an offensive lineman in the first round the selection of this big tackle/guard tweener fills probably the Panthers biggest need. He has great size and solid fundamentals and moved up the board after having dominant week of Senior Bowl practices.

Jordan Gross's transition to left tackle went smoothly but that was about the only smooth aspect of Carolina's offensive line last year. Losses in free agency followed by injuries (and injuries and injuries) forced the line into a constant state of flux. Once they got a healthy running back out there the running game was solid and pass protection was adequate all year, but the current line simply needs more talent. Johnson is being brought in to help solidify the right side. Although he has the most experience at guard, he will be expected to compete for the right tackle position.

With the 46th pick in the 2005 NFL Draft, the Kansas City Chiefs select...

Chris Henry, WR, West Virginia

Height: 6-5
Weight: 195

The Chiefs passed on Kevin Burnett due to injury concerns. So they look to go offense with Henry. The Chiefs know that Henry can become an excellent wide out and potential game changer, something they have lacked at the wide reciever position for some time. With an already loaded KC offense, Henry will be allowed to mature and the Chiefs can use his size and speed to take advantage of oppossing defenses already concerned about Priest Holmes and Tony Gonzales.

The Texans select Demarcus Ware LB 6-4, 245 Troy State. With Ware the Texans now have a full set of young outside linebackers to deploy for the future. Peek, Babin, and Ware will give Wong a chance to work into Foreman's inside slot and give us depth at the most critical position in the 3-4 defense. In my imaginary scheme Ware will take Peek's place as situational pass rusher his first year on the team while contributing on special teams. 4.51 speed with a vertical of 38 1/2 inches are reported by the team. We will see at the Combine.

With the 48th Pick in the 2005 NFL Draft the Buffalo Bills select ...

Logan Mankins OG Fresno State 6'4 320lbs

The Bills were without a first round pick this year due to the trade in last year's draft. They needed a quality player with their second round pick, and couldn't afford to sit idle at the 55th pick. With the recent run on quality offensive linemen they initiated a trade to the 48th pick to obtain who they perceive as one of the better guards in this draft. Mankins plays with a mean streak, and he always gives you 100%. He's agressive, tough, strong, and has good feet since he spent alot of time playing OT in college. The Bills need a tough interior lineman like Mankins, and he'll have a chance to compete for a starting spot on this team. With Baas, Brown, and Johnson off the board the Bills were left to choose the better player between Mankins and Evan Mathis (Alabama). Mathis' only drawbacks were that he needed to improve his pass protection and his size. Bledsoe needs all the time he can get back in the pocket, and thus the decision to take Mankins was a little easier.

The Tennessee Titans select Kevin Burnett LB Tennessee.

Burnett has a good size and speed combo. He has been productive and shown leadership on the field. the titans have had injury concerns among its LBing cor and hopefully Burnett gives them a young player to develop next to Keith Bolluck. Not done for this reason, but the fact that Burnett is local makes the pick popular after the titans have purged the team of a ton of veterans.

The theme of the Rams draft was to improve the talent level and depth on the defensive side of the ball, with a chance at also improving one of the leagues worst special teams units. The Rams entered the draft with a 1st, 2nd and two 3rd round picks and were pleased to parlay them into a 1st and three 2nd round picks.

With the first 2 picks, the Rams were able to stay within the abovementioned theme and still take players at positions of need in DE Math Roth and ILB Channing Crowder. The way the board broke, however, the Rams would have been better off with an interior OL or an OLB at the 40th pick, using pick 50 for Barrett Ruud. I messed up (is that Georgina Frontiere on the phone?)

Feeling that there isn't value at a primary position of need at this point, I focus on the theme of the Rams' draft and rely on my NASCAR roots (I feel the need for speed for the fast track that is the Rams home) and select a player to help with defensive depth and special teams.

The Rams select Oklahoma CB Antonio Perkins; 6'0" 188 lbs 4.35. He should provide immediate help on special teams while developing as a nickle/ backup corner, or possibly a FS.

QUICK STRENGTHS: Fluidity, return ability, closing speed

QUICK WEAKNESSES: strength

NFL COMPARISONS: Fast, fluid and a great punt returner, very similar to Deltha O'Neal.

All American punt returner entering his second year as a starter at cornerback. Set Oklahoma timing day record with a 4.31 forty and also posted a 42-inch vertical.

Excellent punt returner whose athletic ability also translates well to the cornerback position. A very fluid athlete, Perkins turns and runs well with receivers. He likes to play more physically than his listed size would indicate. He is thinly built but puts some big hits on receivers. Turns directions fluidly and quickly but sometimes gets fooled by double moves and loses his man. Has good closing speed and does a good job of getting a hand on the passes but doesn't have the greatest ball skills. Doesn't necessarily go for the interceptions and only has average hands. As a punt returner, he has excellent vision, patience and elusiveness. He has a great burst of speed and knows just when to turn it on. He is a big play man who can go the distace at any time.

Even if he had no ability at CB, his return ability alone with give him a spot in the pros. But the fact that he's improving quickly as a corner and that he has the size and athleticism to eventually become a top cover corner gives him a shot at the 1st Round. But he'll need a big senior season to validate that lofty post.

http://www.draftshowcase.com/AntonioPerkins.htm

Strengths: Amazing return man ... Good size ... Excellent speed ...Very good athletic ability...Has a lot of experience...Knows how to go get the football...A threat to score anytime he touches the ball.

Weaknesses: Lacks strength and can get pushed around ... Not very physical and only an average tackler ... Played on a very talented defense which was of great help ... Doesn't appear to have great instincts.

Notes: One of the best return men in NCAA history and could be a first day pick based on that skill alone ... Should at the very least develop into a great special teams player and backup corner if not more.

Carnidals select Charlie Frye QB 6-4, 220 Akron. To add insurance to the QB positions, the Cardinals selected the best Senior QB in the draft to backup Josh McCown this next year. The move signifies the release of veteran QB King who has not shown the ability to overcome his 70% QB rating in any club situation.

QUICK STRENGTHS: Size, athleticism, toughness
QUICK WEAKNESSES: arm strength, consistency

After redshirting his first season, Charlie Frye went on to be a four year starter for Akron. He toyed with the possibility of entering the NFL Draft after his junior season. He returned and was touted as a possible Heisman candidate going into this senior season.
Frye is a big quarterback with the physical capabilities to be successful in the NFL. He has good height and a sturdy frame. He throws a nice ball with a good, tight spiral. His arm strength is not elite, but he can throw all the necessary routes and does not often throw wobbly passes. He has good athleticism and does a good job of getting outside the pocket. He keeps his head up when scrambling. Frye throws a nice ball on the run and his passes don't lose much velocity or spin when he's passing on the move. His accuracy is good, but there is room for improvement. He will make some bad reads and force some passes into coverage. He hasn't seen too many complex defenses and will need to improve his ability to read defenses and improve his sense of timing.
Frye's career has been a tough one to judge. He hasn't had the supporting cast around him that other MAC QBs have had. However, in terms of physical ability, he has the physical tools needed to succeed at the next level. However, he needs a great deal of technical and classroom work and he's at least 2-3 years away from being able to play.

The Raiders have needs across the board. In the first round defensive playmaker Thomas Davis was the pick. The second pick was traded in the hope of a good Wr falling to r3. When the WRs with any upside at all started flying off the board, the Raiders had to move quick to get their man.

With the 52nd pick. The Raiders select are pleased to select WR. Craphonso Thorpe, Florida St.
6'2, 175, 4.37

Stengths- Speed, height, athleticism, toughness, leaping ability
Weakness- Weight, durability, route running

Thorpe is not a finished product. He had a down year after breaking his leg late last year. If he comes back strong after some down time he could be a steal. Needs to add 15 pounds of lean muscle.

With the 53rd pick in the 2005 NFL Draft, the Baltimore Ravens select

DT C.J. Mosley, 6-3 305, Missouri

With the Ravens switching back to the 4-3, they need more talent on an overachieving defensive line. CJ Mosley is powerful, quick and plays with a mean streak. He has been a star for the last two years and is a player that had to be double teamed to stop. He finished with 61 tackles, including 14 for a loss, and 6.5 sacks.

Pros: Good speed for the position, great size with room to grow. Has produced early and often, is a disrupting force on the line.

Cons: Is a junior declaration and has some finer points to sharpen in his game.

2004 OUTLOOK

All-star candidate who is developing into a force at tackle on the Tiger defensive line ... Is one of four returning starters on a defensive line which looks to be one of the top front lines in the Big 12 Conference … With excellent size, strength and athleticism, has all the tools to be a top-line player.

The Bengals select Ben Wilkerson C LSU 6'4 298

This might be a little higher than most thought Wilkerson would have gone, but he is without a doubt the best center in this draft. He is coming off an injury, but that is fine with the Bengals because they don't need him to start right away. They have time to allow him to fully recover before grooming him for the starting position on the offensive line. The O-Line is a strength for the Bengals, and by picking up Wilkerson it ensures that it will remain a strength for many years to come. He has excellent athletic ability, he's strong, he's fast, he's great at making all the line calls, and he's an excellent leader. He's performs well in both running and passing situations, and he'll fit in well with a young Bengals team.

The two positions that the SeaHawks are hurting on was RB with the departure of Alexander, and they badly need a ILB. All though no real good ILB are available since Crowder was picked, they SeaHawks look for talent they can use in the OLB to move inside. They best one still on boards they will have to go with. This guy has abilities, but needs some work. He is a OLB right now, but he will make great addition with a little work. The SeaHawks pick Lance Mitchell LB 6-3, 245 Oklahoma .

The Indianapolis Colts select:

Kirk Morrison - MLB - San Diego State University

All 3 of last season's MLB's will be free agents on March 2nd. And they weren't very good, anyway. With the Colts strapped for cap space, we won't be able to find a starter in FA. Fortunately, a guy who's a perfect fit for Dungy's defense (great tackler with range) is available. Morrison was a 4 year starter who did nothing but make plays for the Aztecs.

With the 62nd pick, the Rams select ...

Reggie Brown
Wide Receiver
Georgia
6’1” 197 lbs. 4.50

Strengths: Very good pure athletic ability ... Good size with a solid frame ...Tremendous leaper ... Has good ball skills ... Is very strong ... Really came on as a senior.

Weaknesses: Inconsistent ... Has lapses in concentration and doesn't always give 100% ... Speed is only average ... Hands are questionable ... Isn't a deep threat.

Notes: A bit of an underachiever based on his measurables ... Projects as a solid #2 receiver in the pros ... Could be a steal if a team can get him to play up to his potential.

With the 63rd pick the Eagles select: Eric Shelton RB Louisville
Westbrook is a great player, but if he is taken away, there is no running game period. Shelton give the Eagles a different look, and with his size, he should be able to run inside for first downs and in the red zone.
I had a hard time with this pick, because I really like Barber from Minn. But he and Westbrook are about the same size and do about the same thing. It's tough being a GM.

With the 66th pick in the draft, the Detroit Lions select Chris Spencer C/OG from Ole Miss.

With the 67th pick in the 2005 NFL Draft, the Baltimore Ravens select

WR Fred Gibson, 6-4 196, SR, Georgia

Wonderful athlete with awesome leaping ability. Fred has incredible burst speed down field and easily separates from corners. Very agile player, with excellent hand eye coordination and balance. Solid hands, and is an improving route runner as well. Good size, he is a receiver that can go get the ball. He does not produce consistently and he sometimes slacks off during games. Gibson is a great athlete but not that great to dominate going half speed. Needs a little more toughness as well, is not great in space even though he has a large frame, needs to work catching the ball on short routes not just deep passes where he can jump and get it. Great athlete that has very good speed and is a pretty good kick return man as well. Flat out goes gets the ball, very good jumping ability and has size to match. Has great physical tools, but needs to put together the entire package to be great. But as far as athletes go, he is near the top in the nation at WR, the problem is, the production on the field just hasn't been there. Has all the talent in the world. Could develop into a star at the next level or continue his underachieving ways. Boom or bust player.

The Tennessee Titans select Ciatrick Fason RB Florida 6'0 215" 4.4 speed. Fason has as much natural skill as any RB in the draft. He has a good /size speed combination and plays with both speed and power. Like many rookie RBs he needs to learn how to block better. From the information that I have been able to gather he does not have a history of injury nor problem with ball security, both of which have been issues with Chris Brown the team current starter. Becuase of the presence of Brown, there won't be a need to rush Fason in teh line-up, but in the third run this player is an excellent value.

With the 69th pick in the draft, the Detroit Lions select Robert McCune ILB from Louisville.

While LB isn't a pressing need, I feel that McCune is such a great athlete & physical specimen, that I couldn't take the chance he might get picked before my next pick.

He's got exceptional speed for a MLB (4.42 40 yard dash), is very strong, very athletic, & makes plays all over the field. He's a little undersized (height) at 6'0" 245lbs. & his age has some people concerned. However, with his military background & the discipline that has been instilled in him, he should be able to be very productive for many years to come. Besides, you can't teach speed.

While still very productive, Earl Holmes will be 32 y/o before the season begins. He's still got another year or two in him & will provide an excellent tutor for McCune to learn from.

With a front line of Hall, Rogers, & Justin Tuck, & a linebacking crew of Lehman, McCune, & Davis, the Lion's defense is starting to look as talented as their offense.

Everyone better look out for the Lions in the next couple of years.

With the 70th pick the Dolphins select Michael Munoz, OT, Tennessee.

Its been a while since the Dolphins selected and new coach Nick Saban is steamed that because of AJ Feeley the Dolphins lost the 2nd round selection.

With the 71st pick, the Buccaneers select Mike Patterson, DT, USC...

This was a tough decision, as the Bucs have plenty of needs...The biggest debate I had was between Patterson and Odell Thurman, but in the end, the need to find Warren Sapp's replacement was too large, and what better way to fill in his spot then with a player nicknamed "Baby Sapp"...

The Raiders have already selected 2 players with great upside with Davis and Thorpe. The most pressing need left is a powerful back to pound the ball and open up the passing game.

The Oakland Raiders are pleased to select Cedric Houston, RB, Tennesse
The Raiders were hoping for E. Shelton but are happy with Houston. At 6'0 220 w/4.5 speed Houston has the power to run north/south and the speed to secure the corner. Has had some injuries but always overcomes them. He is a tough runner with a good burst and good vision. Gets his pads low and does not try to avoid contact. has the frame to add 10 pounds of muscle without sacrificing speed. Many scouts believe he will be better in the pros after some good conditioning in a NFL program.

With so many good players still available I'm beginning to think that this draft is pretty deep. It does last a few "super stars" to vault it into one of the better drafts, but the depth at several positions in this draft make me believe that isn't as bad a most think. With that being said the Cardinals have shored up their RB problem through Free Agency (with Alexander, Jordan, or Henry etc...) and have address the line with one of the premiere guards in the draft. They brought in a spectacular prospect in the 2nd round to learn the system so with the 3rd round they can now focus on best player available. The Cardinals will add Bill Swancutt DE 6-4, 260 Oregon State to their 12th ranked defense to bolster the either the LLB spot or challenge Zelner for the DE position. Many on the staff feel Swancutt can be a great LB with his ability to get to the ball and make interceptions if possible.

With Jammal Brimmer gone, the Bengals turned to the next guy left on their draft board. Wesley sustained a broken leg last year but has really healed up and is playing as good as any tackle in the nation right now. He was recently selected to the prestigious Street & Smith's and Walter Camp Football Foundation's 1st Team All-American Team. This monster is extremely talented, he was a 1st team All-ACC left tackle before his fracture. He is very good blocking downfield and powerful in the running game. Alabama had a tremendous running game all year despite injuries to backfield stars. Britt was the lead blocker for the SEC's best ground attack dominating with 55 knockdown blocks. Alabama OT Wesley Britt suffered a hairline fracture in his fibula and sat out for the Senior Bowl.

With their last pick in the 3rd Round of the NFL Draft the Cincinatti Bengals select Utah DT Sione Pouha 6'3 330.

He has excellent strength, and is very powerful. He's very athletic for his size, and is very quick off the ball. He's a great team leader, and the epitome of a good character guy. He has alot of potential, and he'll be a big help to the Bengals' run defense. He needs to work on his consistency, and, at 26, he's a little older than most rookies. Marvin Lewis should be able to "coach him up", and get a more consistant effort out of Pouha. This concludes the Bengals draft.

1st Round: DE Marcus Spears LSU
2nd Round: C Ben Wilkerson LSU
3rd Round: MLB Boomer Grigsby Illinois State
3rd Round: DT Sione Pouha Utah

The Bengals are relatively set on offense, and their major need is on the defensive side of the ball. Thus they directed 3 of their 4 first day picks towards the defense. Marcus Spears and Sione Pouha will give the Bengals the strong D-Line they've always sought. The better play by the D-Line will allow Cincinatti's linebackers to flow the ball easier, and that will only increase Boomer Grigsby's effectiveness. His speed and nose for the ball are among his best attributes, and with the DLine keeping the OLinemen off of the LBs you'll see Boomer excell at the NFL level. The Bengals OLine has long been a strength, and with Graham getting up there in years it was neccessary to find a young talented C in the draft to groom as his eventual replacement. By picking up the best C in the draft, Ben Wilkerson of LSU, the Bengals have assured that the OLine will continue to be a strength for many years to come. He'll have time to rehab his injury, and he'll have plenty of time to learn the playbook. With a stronger defense up the middle the Bengals have the liberty to pursue 'projects' in the second day of the draft like Goddard out of Marshall, or Matt Jones out of Arkansas.

Bud Adams falls as sleep as far as getting his card up, but still gets a quality WR Terrance Murphy WR Texas A & M....Murphy is a well-built athlete who was very productive for the Aggies. He is size/speed combination player who probably could work on route running a bit and more consistent explosive playmaking, but has good overall quickness and hands. In fact, he is probably good in most areas of being a WR, but may need develop on asset in order to become more than a number 2 in teh NFL.

With the 87th pick, the Detroit Lions select Atiyyah Ellison DT from Missouri.

This was a tough pick. I was torn between taking Kevin Everett(TE), Adrian McPherson(QB), Courtney Roby(WR), James Sanders(SS), & Atiyyah Ellison(DT).

I really need a SS, but since I lost out on Shazor & Donte Nicholson, I've decided to draft Tyjuan Hagler (OLB/SS) in the 4th or 5th round & convert him to a SS.

Kevin Everett could be a franchise TE someday, but Stephen Alexander is a solid player & I'm sticking with him.

Adrian McPherson is probably the best prospect left on the board &, for the team willing to take him, could be the steal of the draft. If he's on the board in the 4th round, I'll take him.

With Tai Streets most likely not returning next year, Roby would be a very nice addition. If he's on the board in the 4th & McPherson is gone, I'll take him or Brackins.

James Sanders (5'11" 205lbs, 4.60 40 yard dash) appears to be a solid SS prospect. However, he doesn't have the size & speed of Hagler (6'2" 230lbs, 4.49 40 yard dash). Hagler will be a SS in a LB's body.

Finally, that brings me to Atiyyah Ellison. With both Dan Wilkinson & Kelvin Pritchett being 32 & 36 years old respectively, it's definitely time to get some new blood to replace them in the DL. Ellison is a very productive player with good size, speed, & quickness. With Hall, Rogers, Ellison, & Tuck on the DL, Detroit will have a solid defensive front line for several years to come.
