If this perception, whether having a true basis or not, permeates the league's and player's minds, it may light a fire to act sooner than later.

From a player's perspective: Why settle this in just enough time to run out there and be responsible for 4 weeks of meaningless preseason games?

Might as well just delay and time it to where you start in the regular season and get your paychecks. A whole bunch of veterans are probably loving life right now--Moderate exercise, likely ZERO training camp, probably no preseason games, and then trot out there for regular season.

I can see where the players who aren't managing their money very well would be ready for a paycheck, though. When do players normally receive their paychecks? Only when the first of the regular season begins...or an earlier time than that?

I hope I am wrong but neither side has anything to lose right now. Players don't get paid now and owners don';t make their money at this point. When we get to September and players consider the possibility of losing game checks and the owners contemplate losing gate, then we will have an agreement. We may end up losing a couple of games as they need time to get FA and teams setup.

So, yeah. A schedule is nice on paper, but we need an agreement before we can care about games.

I always wondered why the consumer, the fans arn't represented in these talks, might put a bit of a perspective on the entire thing. We're the ones funding this whole circus afterall :)

Without the routine preparation for the regular season, performances for 2011will be compromised (for noobies as well as vets) and stats as well as injury rates affected. These factors could have a good deal of effect on the players' money factor and future contracts. Hopefully we won't have to find out.
