The point of this thread is to focus on the NEW Texans GM and organization structure without the focus on Rick Smith's performance and/or his wife's cancer.

Yes, I am starting with his statement and a link to press conference as his length of departure is a part of the story, but those you prone to beating the dead horse of his tenure at least try to focus on the future no the past as much as possible.

Make Rayes the Interim GM & and hire McCloughan as a consultant for this draft/off-season. After 2018 re-evaluate everything.

If you can get Eliot Wolf you do it. I just don't think it can be done even if he agrees to interview.

The dude's name is Brian Gaine. Not Gaines. I'm not sure if I want him to come back because I'm not sure what he brought to the table anyway.

I just saw Ted Thompson got fired so I'd like to see a guy like him or Pioli. I'd like to bring in a guy with a track record that's already been successful with another organization.

Why not, if Wolf doesn't get the Packers job he will be available.

    My wish list is.

    1. McCloughan
    2. Nick Caserio, I want the Texans to get their own Dimitroff and you know Caserio and BOB will work well together.
    3. Brian Gaine

He didn't get fired and is staying with the Packers.

I expect Wolf to get the Packers job.

In the search for a new GM , would this quote apply ?

Maybe a younger guy would be better as things evolve .

I think this will be very challenging for the texans to attract top talent for even interviews since a potential candidates would see Smith being on a sabbatical and realize they'd be intereiwing for an interim position.

Which is why I said Raye and McCloughan then evaluate after 2018. At that point they should be able to make a commitment to a direction.

You sure it isn't because you want BOB to fail and be gone after 2018?

    Keeping Raye ensures that happens.

Lol. Stop pretending to know 90% of the crud you spew. You don't know what Raye has or would do. You don't know what Gaine has or would do. And what Idexan said made perfect sense. You can't sign a top flite GM without a firm commitment. That does not appear to be forthcoming. Operating under what has been stated a 1 year plan and reevaluate makes sense.

Oh and look my suggestion involved the same guy, McCloughan. I guess you want OB to fail too.

I know what Raye did as Asst GM in Indy with Luck and dont want the same thing happening to Watson. I also want McCloughan signed on to a 3 yr deal and BOB signed to a 2 yr extension or nothing at all. Really any GM they get besides Raye.

Why all the love for Ted Thompson? What's he done beside draft Aaron Rodgers??
Who of note has he drafted in the last five years??
How did he let GB's O-line look as sad as ours over that time?

I say let O'Brien be in on the GM hiring process this time. It worked for Kubiak. He brought in a guy who would do what he said and, together, they took us from doormats to division champs. Give O'Brien that same shot.

Well don't keep us in suspense, spell it out.

McCloughan has to prove he can stay sober. And OB doesn't deserve an extension of any kind. Perform next year and get paid, both of them.
