    This kind of crap really makes me mad! No way we end up 2-14! If anyone wants to give a more accurate prediction I would love to see it.

    Houston Texans 2007 NFL Projection:
    The Houston Texans enter the 2007 season coming off a (6-10) campaign, in which the team scored the 4th fewest points in the NFL. Overall the Texans scored 99 fewer points than surrendered by the defense.

    With such numbers it was a bit surprising the Texans managed to hit the 6 win mark, thanks to an unlikely sweeping of the Jaguars, a win over the champs in week 16, in which the Texans took advantage of the Colts' porous run defense (not to mention the Colts had the division locked up), a narrow win over Miami, a win versus Cleveland, and a win at Oakland.

    With new QB Matt Schaub, can the Texans improve upon their 2006 season?

    While we think highly of Schaub (who could forget his fill-in performance versus New England in October of 2005), we're not of the opinion that quarterback was the major need area for this Houston team.

    In Houston, Matt Schaub will find an offensive line that hasn't exactly been lighting it up. As a result, Schaub is likely to endure a high level of pressure from opposing defenses, a-la Carr.

    At least Schaub will have Ahman Green to hand the ball off to. However, if there aren't many holes opened by the offensive line, Green won't have an easy go.

    On the defensive side of the ball, Houston wasn't very formidable in 2006. Granted the Texans' defense played much better during the second half of the season. But also drew several offensively challenged teams including; Cleveland, Oakland, Buffalo, Tennessee (twice), the Giants without Plaxico Burress, even the Jets could be considered as borderline.

    In 2007 we believe the probability of the Texans sweeping the Jaguars is essentially nil, and likely to go the other way. We also doubt the Texans will repeat 2006's late season win versus the Colts... And the Dolphins look much improved. The potential is great to lose those four wins from 2006 to 2007.

    This season the Texans' schedule is as tough as ever, with game after game against either a playoff caliber team, or a team with a top defense including;

    Kansas City - Week 1
    @Carolina - Week 2
    Indianapolis - Week 3
    Miami - Week 5
    @Jacksonville - Week 6
    @San Diego - Week 8
    New Orleans - Week 11
    Denver - Week 15
    @Indianapolis - Week 16
    Jacksonville - Week 17
    That doesn't even include games with Tennessee, a team that swept the Texans last season, or Atlanta...
    In light of the above, we believe the Texans are likely to take a step back in the record department before taking a step forward.

    Overall we're predicting a record of (2-14) for the Houston Texans in 2007. However, if the Texans' offensive line play improves, or if Schaub plays incredibly, then there is room for upside.

    Additionally, if the defense continues its improved level of play from the second half of 2006, when lining up against 2007's stiffer competition, then there's surely upside to these season long football predictions as well.

    This is stupid...

    Unless you're actually watching the O-line with your own two eyes it's absolutely asanine to assume a high sack number means the Offensive linemen have no skills...

    The application of information from a stat sheet boggles my mind at times..

    Are you sure somebody didn't dig that up from 2004 and change some of the names and stats? :cowboy1:

    The O/U here in Vegas is 6.5 wins. I bet the over last year at 5.5 wins and won, and I am betting the over this year, and I'll win money again.

    Don't get mad at stuff like this - it keeps the Vegas lines going in our favor :)

    (Although, I was kind of expecting a 6.5 line and no surprises).

    Somebody help me with this logic train. On the one hand they say we'll finish 2-14. But on the other hand we're #24 in their Power Rankings. So does that mean the other eight teams below us will finish 1-15 or 0-16???

    I'd be careful taking these guys' advice on who to pick

    24 [IMG] Texans 6-10

    Somehow the Texans swept the Jaguars in 2006. They also scored a week 16 win over a Colts team that already had the division locked up. These wins may be difficult for Houston to repeat in 2007.
    Meanwhile, Matt Schaub may prove to be a great quarterback, and Ahman Green may have something left in the tank, but the offensive line wasn't exactly Houston's strong point in 2006. And the schedule is very tough in 2007.

    Guess they forgot Indy was playing for home field in the playoffs.

    Then their collective heads must be solidly locked inside their collective sphincters.

    Think about this, http://www.footballlocks.com/nfl_power_rankings_preseason_2006.shtml

    Last year at the end of pre-season, their top three teams were the Steelers, Broncos, and Cowboys. Their bottom three teams were the Jets, Texans, and Titans.

    They don't know any more than we do. Just some guys with an opinion. And not even a consistent opinion.

    I'll take some of that action. And since you're so sure we suck, how about doubling the points?

    wonder if he wrote this before last week's game when they boo'ed Trent Green off the field.

    Any gambling site with LOCK in its name is highly suspect, at best.

    exactly. i was like 'what game was this loser watching?' obviously not the same ones we have had to sit through for 5 miserable years. he lost me right around that point as well.

    until the Texans start actually mattering in the grand scheme of things, we will always lack quality paid journalists and the national honks input will be sporadic at best and will probably lack in insight. The only national guys that I actually like to listen/watch talk football are Ditka, Peter King, Aikman, Jaworkski, Irvin and the FOX pregame crew. everyone else just sugarcoats everything or overanalyzes everything.

    (Irvin is currently unemployed due to his own personal conduct...he can talk football though and I always loved his game. He is too just too much of a risk PR-wise due to all the blow and stuff. He is just a Drudge Report waiting to happen. Talented both on and off the field re:football but tough to employ)

    As for local sports honks, I like Lance and that is pretty much it aside from bloggers (tc) or posters (people just like you)

    the fact that the majority of quality takes and analysis reside on message boards and blogs is a damning indictment of the local writers/personalities. its the curse of a One Paper Town and the national decline of The Newspaper.

    Um...so we should expect Schaub to take a drop, see imaginary D-linemen, soil his trousers, and assume the fetal position?

    I think the guy has some legitimate points, but IMHO, I'm far more concerned about developing a true #2 WR, a solid pass-rush, and all DB's not named DRob, than an O-line that was much improved (last year) over years prior.

    Perhaps Mr. "Football Locks" doesn't realize that we'll be running a WCO this year, rather than the dumbed down dink & dunk DC offense. That alone should be worth 2 games.

    Another condemning factor was that their prediction for us last year was 1-15. Not exactly a close prediction.
