Once again, the Pats had one of the highest ranked drafts. For some reason, they almost always draft a player from a Texas school. This year, they picked David Thomas/UT---Pats love those TE's!!:yahoo:

I was really happy to hear that Dave is going to be taking catches from Brady. I think he will be a very capable TE and a real threat to the other AFC teams...I just hope we're not one of them...

There is no way Thomas beats out Watson or Graham for signficant playing time this season. He might get one when the pats let Graham go in a year or two...

Like most third and fourth rounders, Dave is a "project." I don't think the intention was ever to start him over Graham. Until it is his time, he is there for depth only.

I disagree. I don't think most 3rd/4th rounders are projects. Thats when we got our OL this year, and they have a chance to start. If a team can only count on rounds 1/2 for non=projects, then they're IMO in trouble. Besides, 1st day picks are in a class by themselves and that includes the 3rd round, of course.

He's not a TE, he's an H-back, which oddly, is the actual term for running back.

Where do you get that? He's over 6'3"/252lbs and started 4 yrs at TE for UT!

A TE with hands like his don't go that late. He's too small for TE, its all over his scouting reports.

He's alot bigger for an h-back than small for a TE--what scouting reports are you talking about?

Pats only praise him as a TE, nothing about an H-back, which the Pats are not known for anyway...

Also, the TE the Texans drafted is smaller than Thomas--does that mean the Texans will use him as an H-back?...just curious

...fyi, NE has 4 TE's on the roster--3 are 6'3" and Mills is 6'1"--Thomas's most recent weight was 252, which puts him in-line with 2 of the other 3 who are listed at 253/257--Mills is at 227, maybe he was the one you were thinking of at H-back!!

...14 of the 24 TEs at the combine were 6'3" or under

"Add in Thomas' potential role as a solid if not spectacular third tight end,"

Your quote mentions Thomas as a tight end several times in the long article, with the one reference to H-Back--still waiting for more info on why you think he is short, when he's the same size/range as the other NE TE's and most of the TE's at the combine....

I said small, not short. There's a difference. He is not much bigger than Mills.
