They are going to have to do something with the rookie contracts. It's not just
the twelve ounces of beer going up to eight bucks. It's the fact that befor the kid plays a down he automtically makes more than a blue collar player, who's earned his oats. Take guys Like J.P. Lousman, D.C. or this year Matt Ryan... or our own Jason Babins... the owners are taking bath. which they in turn pass on to the fans and the T.V. contracts.
'nother thing I'd like to stick on here.
What the heck business is it of Arlen Specter if a private concern has determned that there has been a violtion of Its rules of their chrater by a charter member and they dispenced the evedence acordingly ? What the heck does the federal goevernment have to do with this internal matter ? The federal goevernment has no cause, no standing ad hoc in this matter. It is none of congress' business what or why they did what they did. No federal laws were broken. No violation of the constitution or Bill of rights occoured. It is none of the federal governments GD business period. I wanna know who put what into Arlen's campign coffers. No body is this stupid.
There is a reason congress enjoys the standing in our society that they do.
Let baseball run a'muck with illeagle drugs for three generations and stomp a hissy fit over an internal matter ? Wanna go rattle the saber at someone Arlene..that would be the baseball union.
There is no way they opt out with the current war they are waging with cable networks as they prop up the NFL Network, Michael Vick hangover, a pending HGH issue and the expansion of NFL to international markets.
They have to much on the table collectively not to sort this out amongst themselves. However, a ~9% increase YoY is a significant number on the cap and if the small markets cannot find 9% upside in their advertising they have a point.
If there is an uncapped year in 2010, I can imagine some teams like the Redskins and Cowboys spending tons and tons of money. And if that's the case, when there is a cap back in place I wonder what they would do if teams are excessively over the limit?
I really hope they don't go uncapped. It's killing baseball and I hope the smaller market cities would be smarter then let that happen. I could imagine a team like GB would become like the Royals.
TTP Agreed on rookie contracts. SOMETHING has to be done. I think the NBA has it right the way their rookie contracts are structured. Out of the gates a more managable sum with a 3-4 year contract. They'll still make money but outright it's insane a guy that has never stepped on the field for a down makes more then a pro-bowler.
I agree. If certain baseball teams spend money like crazy, imagine what the NFL, which is insanely more popular and probably rakes in much more revenue, would do?
Upshaw is an asshat.
This league has always been run so efficiently in comparison to the other sports...I think cooler heads will prevail and everybody will continue to get richer and richer!
