I understand that this is only fantasy football but this really got under my skin. I would appreciate honest opinions on the subject.
I have been playing in a league now for a couple of years. I am the comissioner of the league. And every year, the same problem comes up. Dealing with Trades. I have always said that people should be allowed to trade unless the person gave up on the season and is not legitimately trying to improve the team. Other than that pretty much every trade should go through. But there are always problems.
And everything was fine until I tried to make a trade. Mind you that no trade had been vetoed to this point. My team is pretty stacked. I probably got the top team in the league, but Fantasy involves alot of luck as many of you know, so it's really anyones to win.
So a couple of weeks ago another member told me that he needed a reciever and that Adrian peterson was on the Market. I did not really have a reciever to trade straight up for A.D. So I offered him Addai and Dwayne Bowe for Peterson. This was before Addai got hurt. Yes, Addai had not really done anything but neither had Peterson at that point. Both Addai and peterson were first round picks, with Peterson going third and Addai going fourth overall in our league. And Bowe is a pretty decent reciever. The other guy accepted the trade. But I knew that there would be problems with one of the members. He stated at the draft that he would veto any trade if he thought that any of us were getting "too good".
Sure enough, this member started a campaign on the message board about what a bullshit trade it was. And that the guy who traded Peterson is desperate and that it was a "totally unfair trade". Well, I got furious because the same crap derailed the league last year and I knew the same thing was going to happen. I tried to reason with him about the facts of the trade but he said that he was going to veto it and everyone else should too. Sure enough, My trade was vetoed when other members started listening to his propaganda.
I am now considering leaving the league next year, even though I play with alot of friends and family members and have playing for a while now. And it is alot of fun but this crap is going on every year with people vetoing trades for selfish reasons and the fun then dissappears. Am I unreasonable by getting upset about this veto? I really think that vetoing trades is dumb unless it is totally unfair.
