This is not a mock draft. It is not an indicator of where a given player will be chosen. It is the order of preference I would have if I were running the Texans' War Room. Certain players were excluded entirely as inappropriate for the Texans to draft before pick #66 for one reason or another. Two players (AJ Hawk and Vernon Davis) have preference ratings that may indicate a salary burden I would not be willing to bear for that position at that pick.

    1 RB Reggie Bush
    2 LB AJ Hawk*
    3 DE Mario Williams
    4 OT D'Brickashaw Ferguson
    5 TE Vernon Davis*

I would give Moss Inexperience, before I have Addai inexperience. Me and you are on the same page with DeMeco Ryans. I think he will be that 2nd round Linebacker that takes the NFL by storm.

Looks pretty good except Vernon Davis. I think he is a tremendous athlete and will be good if in the right situation....but if David Carr is going to be the reason we won't touch any other QB in the draft....Jeb Putzier should be a legitimate reason we wouldn't touch Davis. I mean we just signed Putzier and he is a guy Kubiak brought in.

After further review of this man's record with the draft....i'm recanting my above post....well somewhat. LOL. GL Sarg.

I don't disagree with your point. Vernon Davis is more explosive than D'Brick in my mind (and more consistent than Mario at 3), however, D'Brick is a bigger need. Thus D'Brick 4 and Davis 5. I didn't blot TE out like QB since you can run 2-TE sets and since Davis is athletic enough to play a little H-back or WR (much like Reggie Bush).

Very true. Didn't think about the offensive capabilities really with the 2 TE set....even better to see him running around in the slot in the red zone.

Very interesting exercise. I think having your War Room list of what you think your team should do makes following the draft more interesting than just a mock draft.

I did not catergorically exclude anyone: at some point even someone at your most loaded position is worth taking. If Vince Young and Spencer Havner are both available at pick 66...I am taking Vince Young.

I did weight by what I see as the Texans needs (assuming they draft Reggie Bush at #1): OL, DB, LB, DL, TE, WR, QB, RB.

    1 Reggie Bush RB
    2 Mario Williams DE
    3 D'Brick Ferguson OT
    4 A.J. Hawk OLB
    5 Vince Young QB
    6 Vernon Davis TE
    7 Michael Huff S
    8 Winston Justice OT
    9 Tye Hill CB
    10 Chad Greenway OLB
    11 Kamerion Wimbley DE
    12 Ernie Sims OLB
    13 Brodrick Bunkley DT
    14 Haloti Ngata DT
    15 Eric Winston OT
    16 Jimmy Williams S
    17 Donte Whitner S
    18 Ashton Youboty CB
    19 Nick Mangold C
    20 Jason Allen S
    21 Ko Simpson S
    22 DeMeco Ryans OLB
    23 Kelly Jennings CB
    24 Johnathan Joseph CB
    25 Tamba Hali DE
    26 Davin Joseph OG
    27 Antonio Cromartie CB
    28 Bobby Carpenter OLB
    29 Leonard Pope TE
    30 Manny Lawson DE
    31 Mathias Kiwanuka DE
    32 Chad Jackson WR
    33 Matt Leinart QB
    34 Marcedes Lewis TE
    35 Santonio Holmes WR
    36 Daryn Colledge OT
    37 Thomas Howard OLB
    38 Darnell Bing S
    39 Daniel Bullocks S
    40 Alan Zemaitis CB
    41 Max Jean-Gilles OG
    42 Charles Gordon CB
    43 Joe Klopfenstein TE
    44 Marcus McNeill OT
    45 DeAngelo Williams RB
    46 Richard Marshall CB
    47 Sinorice Moss WR
    48 Jonathan Scott OT
    49 Cedric Griffin CB
    50 Abdul Hodge MLB
    51 Laurence Maroney RB
    52 Jay Cutler QB
    53 Mark Anderson DE
    54 Roman Harper S
    55 Anthony Fasano TE
    56 D'Qwell Jackson MLB
    57 Dominique Byrd TE
    58 Charles Spencer OG
    59 LenDale White RB
    60 Chris Chester C
    61 Marcus Maxey CB
    62 Gerris Wilkinson MLB
    63 Maurice Stovall WR
    64 Mike Kudla DE
    65 Taitusi Lutui OG
    66 Joseph Addai RB

I don't profess to actually know anything about most of these players; I just started with various lists of players and moved them up or down according to the Texans needs. I think the best test of a list is if when you can move up a spot you say "good" not "argh, I want the guy the spot below!". If that is the case, you need to flip their positions!

I'm pretty happy with how things turned out, after some slight initial disappointment. I thought Charles Spencer was a little large to be a good zone-blocker, but I'll take Kubiak and Sherman's call over my own on that.
