Maybe Dunta wasn't so bad after all

We also went from 15th (2009) to 32 (2010) when we lost him.

I got a feeling we upgraded, took a year, but still an upgrade none the less.

Got anything to back that up or just random off the topic spouting?

The metrics don't lie. Last year Atlantas CBs were shutdown material. Best in the NFL

I think D.Rob would have been a nice #2 behind Jonathan Joseph....but, we might not have been able to afford Joseph with D.Rob's salary.

I'm fine with where we are at, simply because D.Rob obviously did not want to be here.

Wouldn't the type of coverage scheme have an effect on those numbers? Seemed like Atlanta played their share of cover 3, which would minimize large CB passing yardage plays.

Never thought he was that bad. Didn't (and still don't) think he's worth what Atlanta's paying him. Don't think he would have been the difference between 6-10 and a playoff spot in 2010. Keeping him around so we could have been a better non-playoff team doesn't appeal to me much.

Anytime I ever watched a Falcons game last year the guy that always stood out to me was Brent Grimes. He is a covering machine

This. An excellent 2 who thinks he's a 1, wants to be paid like a 1, AND doesn't want to play for the perpetual loser that drafted him anymore isn't an asset.

Sometimes it's just time to part ways.

...and our "upgrade" STILL cost less than Dunta. (not to mention how much better a cover corner Joseph is)

From a skill set perspective Dunta would be a great Nickle Cornerback, but he would never accept the role nor would he accept the lower pay that comes with it.

While the numbers are intriguing, there's still a lot of variables unaccounted for (at least in this cursory glance):

1.Did the teams with the better numbers in YPA play opponents who favored running the ball more?

    2. Are the lower numbers do to playing a higher proportion of teams favoring the West Coast Offense, which favors short timing patterns over bigger routes?

    3. While the number is low, does this article state which CB's are on the lower and higher end of the numbers for their respective teams? In otherwords, could Dunta, in fact, be raising the average higher due to his play?

I didn't watch any Falcons games last year, so I honestly don't know anything about them, except for the playoffs. I do remember last year, however, that the Falcons message boards were saying they terribly overpaid Dunta based on his performance.

I liked DR just not at #1 CB & especially not at what he wanted. I also do not see our record being much if any different with him.

Maybe Atlanta's D was pretty good but D's individual stats were pretty bad I looked it up once I think it was somewhere around 1int and 5 or so passes defended..... He was not worth the money he was asking for... I am much happier spending that money on a better Cb than him and getting a talented safety as well... not to say that having any veteran would not have been good but he just wanted too much money I like where we are now last yr is last yr... all I really care about is what happens on sun this yr, and I don't think we will miss him at all.

Is that good for shut down corners that were best in NFL or was it all the on the safeties. :headhurts:
